    • @ATLOffroad

      Taking your vehicle on rocky, dusty, muddy trails is inevitable here in the southwest if you enjoy the outdoors. A Passport with 17inch rims and 245/75 tires would give the driver a much smoother ride on those washboard dirt roads. I see a lot of Cherokee Trailhawks around here with that rim/tire setup. I think Honda could do the same.

    Passport is definitely on my list of favorites. Murano is luxurious, Edge is sporty, and Outback is off road capable. Passport blends all of that together and adds more practicality and more off-roadiness. i-VTM4 is more capable than Subaru’s system because of that torque vectoring rear axle being able to act like a limited slip diff. Also on road it adds a flavor of fun by being literally Acura’s SH-AWD which can make it feel like a RWD vehicle during power-on handling but get good gas mileage on the highway. Murano is the only one with an advantage of being luxurious with a very nice interior but it’s not as practical or sporty. This is gonna be a winner for Honda

    The Entry level Sports model already comes adequately equipped, A white colour of the Sports model with all the black cladding for that rugged off-road appearance and the AWD option duly ticked would do it for me. I prefer the silhouette of this to the Pilot as this looks more like an off-road vehicle while the Pilot's soft styling looks more like a minivan. Great review.

    Boy, Honda really phoned this in in terms of its as-marketed purpose of being an "active lifestyle" adventure machine. Long wheelbase shared with the family hauler, standard 20 inch wheels (because adventure?), an AWD system that is one of the best in the worst layout category (single speed transverse PTO), hilarious angles and clearance and to top it off the gall to suggest its a competitor to other adventure machines like the 4Runner. Just goes to show that just being in Moab isn't the surefire recipe for courting adventure.
    I mean, It's not a bad 5 seat mid-sizer, but is this REALLY how the marketing team interpreted the market segment? Don't try so hard Honda, it's just a Pilot for people without big families.

    Slap on 15's with thick offroad tires instead of the 20's with low profile sport tires and you have yourself a winner. Idk what they were thinking putting low profile tires on an vehicle that is designed to be taken offroad. The AWD system on them are very capable and the V6 has good pickup and pulling capabilities

    Off road vehicles do walk a very fine line between road drive ability and off road prowess. The segment is difficult to get a foothold in. A Jeep Wrangler is a great off road vehicle but lacks in on road comfort. Jeep owners forgo one trait for the other, as the Wrangler is quite popular. The Nissan Xterra was a fine off road SUV, but not a great on road SUV. People were not willing to tolerate the road handling, the Xterra is now not sold. Since many own 4x4 trucks, they default to them to travel to camp etc, since the pickup adds extra uses to the mix. I do not know if this mix of ability will draw buyers, but I applaud Honda's try at it.

    All the released data say the ground clearance is 1.1" over the Pilot on AWD, and 0.5" on FWD. For 8.4" on AWD.

    1. Nissan Pathfinder
    2. Honda Pilot
    3. Mitsubishi Montero sport
    4. Jeep Grand Cherokee
    5. Mazda Tribute?

    I''d love to see a comparison for off road between the new Passport, Pilot and Ridgeline. Especially using snow, mud and sand modes on all 3. It's not a Jeep I know, it would be a interesting comparison.....Here in New England, the snow has never been so bad that I've had to engage snow mode on my 17 Ridgeline.

    beautiful scenery and good preliminary look. was considering hyundai santa fe a couple of years ago. they just moved assembly of the passport from louisiana to alabama and the hyundai is also put together in alabama. i only buy vehicles coming from plants in right to work states. the nissan with the CVT is a nogo for me just because you will be able to set your watch to when it will break.

    I await part two eagerly. Merely, as a Subaru enthusiast, I wish for there to be more competition in the off-road crossover segment, which may motivate Subaru to update their AWD to feature better off-road modes.

      Alexander Sanford Subaru has a bigger problem than AWD system, the garbage boxer engine.

    • @a.sanford8731
      @a.sanford8731 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hujdupahuj I haven't experienced any issues with mine. They've been making improvements to them continually through their production with the head gasket issue being resolved in 2010, and the 2.5 receiving a timing chain instead of a belt. Mine consumes some oil, but no more than my Jeep's old 4.0. What problems did you have with your boxer?

      @a.sanford8731 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hujdupahuj Might I also add that this engine's design lends itself to gifting the vehicle with an exceptionally low center of gravity. Even without swaybars, my Outback outhandles many other vehicles comparable in class and otherwise.

    To me it looks like it would be a good family hauler.And hopefully one you can have just a little bit of fun getting abit off the beaten path. Probably not 4Runner or Wrangler type offroading. But hopefully at least enough to have some fun.I'm interested in seeing how far off road you can take it without hurting it.

  • @psewgobind

    Didn't get the weight, but probably close to Pilots. I would have taken more inches of the back on the front to give it a better off road stance and more compact for city use.

    I'm fine with a "Pilot Sport" as I have zero need for a third row, but like the Pilot. Might throw some chunkier tires on it.
