The Original 1963 D.A.L.E.K.S i think me personally they are terrifying and so Nazi like & very evil menacing like wish they would bring them back for series 13 PLZ
I LOVE the Paradigm Daleks, I even made my own (shoddy) full size Dalek Drone when I was younger. Though the designs looked MUCH better in Asylum Of The Daleks where they were painted to be a darker more glossier colour and took a higher ranking position, they looked far more menacing there. I wish they were seen again because they had such potential.
This was a make do because the original top half of this prop was stolen from Terry Nation and so the only remaining top half was used, unfortunately it was missing its eye stalk shroud and dome lights and so it appears with just a torch and yes jars were used to cover the much larger dome lights. Other Dalek props used Landrover/Mini lights but this on had much larger household light bulbs.
tgiacin435 a lot more threatening daleks than in moffats era, especially the way it wiped out that army. The outside the shell concept is also interesting.
I am in love of the original Emperor's Guard Daleks from Evil of The Daleks, because of not only of their voices but also because of the unique Black Some design and with it's limited combat scene at the final battle during the final episode.
Even though it’s an audio only design, my favourite specific Dalek design would be the Dalek Time Strategists/Time Controller. It’s purple/navy colour scheme, and the diagonal rings around the neck section just makes it stand out in a good way.
Part of me wants a redesign but also I want to keep the bronze boys longer! And I couldn't agree more about the Parting of the Ways Emperor, still my favourite villain of the entire show. I'd love to see them bring him back!
I actually REALLY liked the defence drone daleks, possibly even better than the bronze ones to me, and was hoping they'd become a major faction, at least for the Whittaker (or Chibnall) era so that we could see more of them, though I feel that's unlikely now.
@@nickbrough8335 I know I’ve seen the dalek rotating in “Dalek” and killing the soldiers in the corridor and i like that this design fit this into the body well without it looking weird
I feel like the Paradigm Daleks would have been better if the intention was to use them once like the Scrap Metal Dalek. Because it's clear that Victory of the Daleks was just a set-up episode with them in, and I feel like if they were created to be an oddity and not a replacement, people would like them a lot more. Because they're not bad, it's just that they weren't necessary when the comparatively amazing Time War Daleks were still available. Also the Paradigm Daleks were never really heard from again. They had loads of merchandise and toys, but they were just in Victory and the finale, then we went straight back to the Time War Daleks in their parliament in Victory of the Daleks. I thought that those Time War Daleks in Victory were meant to be the last of their kind so it's a bit confusing that they apparently made the Paradigm Daleks, the Paradigm Daleks killed them, and them the Paradigm Daleks either just faded out of existence or became the Time War Daleks again? I'd love to see either Big Finish or that Daleks web-series to pick up on what happened to the Paradigm Daleks because they're out there in space somewhere, and even though a lot of people hated the designs, I'd love to see them explored further with the roles their colours identify, and perhaps what happened to them and even a story of them dying out and being replaced by the Time War Daleks again.
The Death to the Daleks version was Mike Bryant wanting to return to something more like the 1960s designs. As he’d been production assistant on the Daleks’ Masterplan and Power of the Daleks, his own taste was no doubt shaped by those experiences and respect for the early aesthetics of the show.
It's been used in a Time War-era comic story and a Big Finish audio as well, so at this point the Stolen Earth Supreme's began being a bit of a celebrity in the Dalek Supreme design schemes. I personally love it too.
I honestly love the look of the defense drone dalek, it honestly feed like a modern design for the Daley’s and not the ones from 2005 maybe just change a few of the colors and I’d be a perfect dalek for me

13:57 MY NEW FAVORITE (individual) DALEK! Both in design and personality! The red eyes just go so well with his blood thirsty outlook. What a blessing to be free of the plunger hand as well. Which is why I love the recon and defense drone daleks so much as well. I get why they were around at first but holy crud are they an immersion breaker pfft. 15:34 one thing i wished they kept from this era with other dalek designs was the film in the eye stalks that allowed the daleks to dilate their eyes, it made them seem so much more alive!
I have a figure of the imperial guard design. Honestly, in general, I'm a really big fan of Old Who Dalek designs (at a conceptual level at least, because the prop work is kinda shoddy at times). The simplicity of them I just find really endearing. Time War Daleks are still absolutely brilliant and are much scarier looking, but the general classic who design I really love. I also still absolutely love the paradigm designs. I definitely think they should have remained in just higher ranking positions and not replace the typical design, but it was super refreshing to see this overhauled design that still felt familiar. I'll Neve understand the hate of it just having a little hunchback. I dig it personally, and the practicality of its design with it having a hatch in the back with swappable arms I just thought was fantastic, and am really upset they were never fully utilized.
The Daleks during the Tom Baker and John Peetwee Dr Who eras will always be my favourite Daleks as they are the ones I grew up watching as a kid and loving.
Honestly, mixing some of the new designs would give the Daleks the feel of a functioning combined arms military. Think about it: a Dalek saucer has a troop capacity of two thousand, so you could have 1,200 Dalek bronze drones as various types of basic infantry, 200 bronze special weapons Daleks as heavy support, 200 bronze defence drone/recon scout Daleks filling a commando role, 200 time squad style executioner daleks with that gattling style gunstick serving as headhunters/assassins hunting enemy HVTs, and the final 200 being the paradigm style but with the more muted metallic colors serving as officers commanding and coordinating operations
The Paradigm Daleks are probably my favourite. They seem more like a progression of the original 1960s designs. If they didn't look so plastic-y, they'd be the best IMO. It's not even the colours, Asylum showed that the different colours can look amazing if the texture is good.
the bronze daleks have a special place in my heart because they (probably the same with a few other people) were the first ever daleks I had ever seen but the classic daleks are just so creepy in a way that I absolutely love!
I got the dalek invasion of earth two pack where it’s the bronze daleks done up in the colors of the classic and black daleks from that story, and honestly I liked that combination more. And would love to see that design again
My favourites are the scrap metal and ironside daleks. The scrap metal one has this interesting bit at the front, plus I love the rustic look. On the other side, I love the clean, matte green look of the ironside, and, and this has nothing to do with the looks but: “Would you care for some tea?” 😂
My favourite Daleks were the ones in Day of the Daleks, Planet of the Daleks, Genesis, Destiny, Resurrection, and Revelation. Basically all the grey ones. Though I wasn't that keen on the grey ones in Rememberence as they wobbled on the streets and looked cheap in matt grey. I liked the bronze new Who Daleks at first apart from their big light ears and that stair lift noise that they make when they move, which for me kills their creepiness. They were better when they moved silently, plus it makes no sense have a sound that tells everyone the Daleks are approaching as they could run away from them before they were seen. The Daleks may as well shout "coming ready or not!" People still like them but I agree that the bronze Daleks have had their day, as they are part of the furniture now. I quite liked the telly tubby stone Daleks largely because they were also grey. Personally I'd like to see the Daleks use the power of invisibility they were developing in Planet of the Daleks or become slightly invisible as that I think that would be very creepy, so they would be a bit like the Shadows in Babalon 5. I guess everyone would make Doctor Who different if they could.
Did you know there is a unique evil of the daleks dalek not on this list? I only discovered it recently. It’s a skinny dalek! It’s base is thinner, presumably to help them move around the Victorian mansion. The big giveaway is that the back only has one column of bumps, where most usually have two. (There was one in destiny that had none at all, but we ignore that one, that was an error)
I wish they'd continued to use the paradigm Daleks the way they had in Asylum, as like elite officer Daleks, higher ranking and more powerful than the regular bronze ones.
The Defense Drones really should be the new design for the Daleks going forward, it's very menacing and more mechanical looking than anything that came before it.
With the earlier Daleks the BBC were constrained by the colour cameras the BBC had available to them. Some colours would flare! Blue Peter did a piece on a series called The Borgias, and the pope robes costume they had in the real colours on silk flared and distorted on screen, so that had to use a toned down version that only looked the correct colour on screen.
Dalek Drones - "I don't want to see them again, but they're cool as a one-off" Yeah, I think you're going to see them again, just saying... they're recon Daleks that evolved from those on Skaro, so they're a part of their history now. However, it doesn't mean we have to see this version or any recon Dalek for a while, as I speculate they're somewhat rarer than most breed of Dalek due to the reconnaissance element. They're like Dalek astronauts or scouts. The cool part about this is they would need to have an upper hand to do reconnaissance, at least they would have to be better equipped for warfare or maneuverability. I also love the special weapons Dalek and the new Prime Strategist (mostly because I love the design and the character). The one from "Dalek" also made an impact for opening the case and using a cool self-destruction mechanism.
@@lordferbus2970 Exactly, we could see the first Skaro casing or variants from it, which would be more similar to the one in Resolution. I doubt the Daleks would give too many lights to a recon scout.
Personally one if my favourite Daleks was the Black Dalek from Invasion of Earth - actually for the reason you've said before in this: he wasn't shiny. He had a matte black finish and, especially cause it was in black and white, that just gave it that much more presence in the story
Let me firstly say that I respect where you’ve placed the scrap metal dalek. That is your opinion. Anyway, when I saw Resolution and that dalek first appeared on screen I broke out into laughter. I now call the dalek “garbage dalek”. Literally and metaphorically.
I would have liked the Supreme Council Dalek more if it hadn’t been for the flashlight and jam jar ears. I’ve always loved the gold Dalek and the silver and black Dalek. I think the main issue is that metallic paint isn’t very forgiving. If the prop is shoddily made or (as in the case of the Pertwee Daleks) a bit battered about, metallic paint really draws attention to it. The Resurrection Dalek was rather unusual in as much as the hemispheres on the skirt section were white, which is the only time as far as I know. I’d like to see this colour scheme done really well to a high spec paint finish on a brand new, well-built prop (unlike the hurried paint over older layers of paint on a battered old prop that we got!). With the black Daleks I think it would look better with a Matt finish. I really enjoyed the white Imperial Daleks. I never really didn’t like the new paradigm Daleks and the Chibnall era Daleks. I think the reason why is that they deviate two far from the classic Dalek silhouette. The same reason why I didn’t like the new design of the Mini. You can’t improve much on a classic design. The 2005 Dalek designs were such a success because the modernised the overall look without disturbing the essential classic silhouette. I like the gold Dalek emperor. The TV Century 21 emperor was something of a legend, loved by many. But I get why it’s not to everyone’s tasted. The Magician’s Apprentice Dalek was a bit ‘meh’ for me. It took a classic design and painted bits of it in a pale blue colour to the collar section for no apparent reason which just didn’t add anything of value for me. I kind of felt “yeah, it’s ok. But why the blue colour?”. I’d like to see an Evil Of The Daleks style emperor but done with more of a budget. It’d be great done with todays technology and cash.
Best daleks are the Ironsides daleks from victory of the daleks, the whole design is perfect from the blackout cover on the lights and the canvas+camo, and the piece de resistance, the tiny British flag.
Time war Daleks are my favorite, but I do put the paradigms abit higher on the list, the colors are weird but the colors were made abit better in the asylum of the daleks because they got darker colors.
I like Dalek Sec, but I agree that they look more plastic than metal. I disagree about making them matte, however, I think that'd look more like painted wood. A brushed or sand blasted texture would be nice, make it look metallic without being shiny.
Another thing, I'm not a fan of the security drone/scrap dalek. The slot in the head for the eye stalk just looks unfinished, which isn't terrible for scrap dalek, but not for the 3D printed one.
Nice video, tho I think your a bit harsh on poor old Dalek Sec😂😂. My favourite has to be the prime strategist, he the first dalek I've ever felt compelled to buy a model of and after buying it from Eaglemoss, I wasn't dissapointed 😁😁😎😎
When they did asylum of the daleks, they should've included more of the old ones. I would like to've seen the old special effects from their weapons. Eg: genesis of the daleks.
Apparently, the tlv strategist dalek has an old casing as a punishment for a previous failure. He’s still valued for his brain, but he is forced to wear his old casing whilst the others get upgraded. He can’t even fly, he needs to use a trans solar disk to get around. I really like that guy.
Here are my Top 10 Dalek Designs; 10: Dalek Time Controller (Patient Zero - Dark Eyes 4) 9: Dalek Emperor (Parting of the Ways) 8: Ironside Daleks (Victory of the Daleks) 7: Imperial Daleks (Remembrance of the Daleks) 6: Emperor's Guards (Evil of the Daleks) 5: Time War Daleks 4: 60's Daleks with Solar Panels (The Chase - Evil of the Daleks) 3: Grey Dalek Soldiers (Resurrection of the Daleks/Revelation of the Daleks) 2: Special Weapons Dalek (Remembrance of the Daleks) 1: Supreme Dalek (Stolen Earth - The Witches Familiar)
must agree with Most of your choices. Having watched Dr Who from episode one in my childhood, My favourite version is the Shawcraft Mk3? like the Mk1 but with slats. Grey (alluminium) with blue domes. And second best> the Bronze, new era
My favourite dalek design is the Ironside dalek. I love the Bri'ish theme of them and Victory of the Daleks was the first episode of Doctor who I watched.
I watched Dr Who since it's first episode aired (I was 6 years old) and saw the progressive development of the Daleks. As to the Time War Daleks: Gold and Bronze - they are the best Dalek design and color scheme across all time and space. Sure, bring back one-off Daleks for some stories - but as to the Time War Daleks - if it isn't broken don't fix it. They look proportionally perfectly balanced in design, solid, powerful, classy and menacing!. They should never again change for change's sake.
👍 Great ranking. Agree that we’re overdue a new standard design. A missed opportunity for the designers imo was the final appearance of Rusty in Twice Upon A Time. He’d been around for millions of years and ended up looking like he was wired up to two telephone exchanges 🤷 They could really have done something wild with his design.
Love the paradigm dalek im sad they never really got a chance cause some people didn’t like them, where not supposed to ahhaha, deffo a missed opportunity when they first turned up they came off scary and more viscous so would have been fun to see what if!
What's YOUR favourite Dalek Design?
My personal favourite is the time war daleks
Definitely the time war Daleks, I share you views on them in revolution my word they were incredible.
2005 bronze Daleks or Remembrance White and Gold Daleks.
I absolutely love the Movie Daleks.
Grew up watching those two movies and got into New Who because of them.
The Original 1963 D.A.L.E.K.S i think me personally they are terrifying and so Nazi like & very evil menacing like wish they would bring them back for series 13 PLZ

They are under used and series 13 should have them return
Yeah, I think they are way more menacing than normal Daleks, even the original ones.
I disagree hard, as a kid the redesign made me angry to see but I'm happy to see others got something out of them
My favorite design is probably the imperial Daleks, I love how they seem to have a pompous rich look to them.
Same they look so good
I too love them and did in 1988! 🤩
“It looks like it’s got a flashlight strapped to its head…”
It has. It has got a flashlight stuck to its head. 😂
I agree. They actually did used a flashlight for its eyestalk
Wired into the "ear lights" blinker circuit, if I remember correctly.
And the ear lights are literally Jam Jars inverted.
That's because the BBC constantly runs on a budget of 50p and whatever rubbish can be found in the supply cupboards in the BBC offices.

I guess everyone would make Doctor Who different if they could.
paradigm daleks are my favorite, especially with the way they looked in The Pandorica Opens
I love the resstaration emperor
Time war Dalek will always be my favourite
Who knew that there were so many different Dalek designs?!
Me
I think they should bring back the paradigm Daleks. They look so much more big and menacing than the bronze ones, defiantly my favourite dalek design.
The Ironside design is probably my favourite since it was my first introduction to the Daleks (that I remember)
Dalek Drones - "I don't want to see them again, but they're cool as a one-off"
Yeah, I think you're going to see them again, just saying... they're recon Daleks that evolved from those on Skaro, so they're a part of their history now.
Ye maybe we could see what the Recon's casing originally looked like other than that drawing
Any dalek without a toilet plunger is always appreciated!
Death to the daleks is my favourite design
Best daleks are the Ironsides daleks from victory of the daleks, the whole design is perfect from the blackout cover on the lights and the canvas+camo, and the piece de resistance, the tiny British flag.
Supreme council dalek was the movie dalek resprayed
Genesis of the Daleks, Paradigm Daleks and the bronze daleks are my favourites
I always thought of the gold neck ring on the supreme dalek was like a crown
5. Paradigm Drone Dalek
4. Time Squad Drone
3. Power/Evil Drone Dalek
2. Resurrection Supreme Dalek
1. Evil of the Daleks Emperor Gaurd
Nice video, tho I think your a bit harsh on poor old Dalek Sec😂😂. My favourite has to be the prime strategist, he the first dalek I've ever felt compelled to buy a model of and after buying it from Eaglemoss, I wasn't dissapointed 😁😁😎😎
they obviously have British Leyland car paint on Skaro too. the same lovely paint colours found on Marina cars here on Earth.
One thing I love about the Chibnall era is the Daleks have claws and not the plungers.
The plungers were great though
@@rhysjones8506 they were I just move that we have something diffrent rn
My favourites were the 1988 imperial Daleks
Ressurection of the daleks, dalek is my all time favourite!
I really like the Scrap Metal Dalek idk why but the head of it is just great
When they did asylum of the daleks, they should've included more of the old ones.
Genesis daleks ALWAYS... I do like the Necros daleks as well though they got a very aesthetically pleasing design
The skin of the dalek is poly-carbide poly would infer a polymer carbide is usually an element combined with carbon.
6:40 I LOVED THE MOVIE DALEKS I PUT THEM 2nd
I'm surprised he can actually tell them apart other than colour. True fan.

must agree with Most of your choices. Having watched Dr Who from episode one in my childhood, My favourite version is the Shawcraft Mk3? like the Mk1 but with slats. Grey (alluminium) with blue domes. And second best> the Bronze, new era
Controversial opinion, I love the junkyard dalek. Probably my favorite the more I see of it and the story behind it
I really love the TLV times quad drones, I love the time war design with the classic colour scheme.
The "Gold Dalek Warrior" isn't a warrior, he is the Supreme
I would like to see an episode with the emperor and dalek supreme working together.
I like the classic greys. Simple and elegant. I don’t like a lot flash in my Dalek. To me, it’s not the casing, it’s the Dalek operator and voiceover.
Missed the Dalek Prime Minister from Asylum & The Dalek Battle Computer from Rememberance but well thought out list and reasonings all the same!
I don't like the pinched waist on the defence drone. If they keep the colour and the new neck design but fill out the waist it'd be amazing.
I actually think the resurrection supreme looks quite different and significantly better
I liked the defence drones in blue but once they went red I thought they lost their presence and looked a bit unusual.
Love the paradigm dalek im sad they never really got a chance cause some people didn’t like them, where not supposed to ahhaha, deffo a missed opportunity when they first turned up they came off scary and more viscous so would have been fun to see what if!
I feel like the only one who prefers the old daleks to the gold variety
My favourite dalek will always be the green ones from genesis of the daleks.
