That depends on the amounts of moisture, processing, and skill that you’re working with.
Let me demonstrate 3 quantities of denim hem char cloth that it takes to ignite leaves straight off the ground. It only took 1” for unprocessed leaves, a 1/2” for processed leaves, and just a 1/4” for highly processed leaves.

The 1/4" was impressive David !
I always go overboard with too much charcloth. Better make some again after than being short ! Actually, that sums up my fire mentality 😅

I don't mind overusing char cloth. I've shown here how to conserve it when necessary.

Good to hear you had your eye fixed, so now you have no excuse about not seeing an ember… lol.
    Best regards.

That is actually how I practice. I always use the bare minimum on materials.

Why do I get the feeling your yard has "pattern baldness" for lack of leaves? Lol 🤣 Merry Christmas Sir

Its so awesome to see you light up. I've made a whole jar of char cloth from khaki pant hem. Trying to find fat wood too. Both knives you use. I dont grinder, would i be able to sharpen my edge with just a diamond file? ❤

No. You probably know many people that could grind that for you. Then you will keep it sharp with the diamond stone.

Hi David! Hope the visit with the doctor went well. How far can we stretch char cloth? A long way, as you demonstrate!
