Oh my word! I’m sure this same lady, Mrs Matalon, was my Brown Owl (Brownies Leader) back in the 70s at Yallahs Primary School, St. Thomas! The person I remember was sweet, kind, patient, nurturing and oh so lovely. I remember she used to travel from Stanton all the way to Yallahs to run the club. I smiled even more when I noticed that we were both born on the same day of November 😊. I came back to the U.K. many years ago and sometimes wondered what happened to her. Thanks for posting this - brought tears to my eyes to see this.

I love these random Jamaican-themed videos. Little by little, they all contribute to disassembling the global stereotypes relative to Jamaican culture. The island has such a rich, multicultural history. It's refreshing to see more varied Jamaicans lending their voices as testimony to the island experience. There are many different ingredients responsible in creating the distinctive flavor that is Jamaica.

I am laughing at some of the comments. There was a time in Jamaica you had to be high light skin/ mix to work in the Banks , offices & for Air Jamaica most popular Airline at the time no black complexion was seen. Certain jobs especially you are not mix keep it moving. It got even worse when the blackmen only wanted to date & marry mix girls. 😎😎 . When I came to the USA and started working for a large corporation I saw every color different Folk from all over the world. We were all treated the same. Had I lived in Jamaica I would never be able to work for such a corporation. 😁 Yes out of many one people sounds so beautiful. BUT 🤓✌✌✌❤❤❤

Colourism was a big one ... Even now I turned 20 and there was outrage the other day when a application criteria said "light skin" ... However, I went to a Kingston all girls school and i was one of the darkest girls and I was not treated different compared to a white or Asian student... We all could be reprimanded or praised if we did well ... So I didn't experience it in school but in society yes ...

@Jodie Osbourne Good insight. Keep your head up and I definitely know that racism, colourism and discrimination is real; moreover, discrimination is rampant in the black community (the obsession of “light skin” and quote and quote “good hair”). It’s absolutely disgusting and shows a lack of education as well as understanding. Embrace your Afro features and walk with pride by holding your head high because you’re proud of who you are. Moreover, don’t look for a job but rather start a little business and try to scale it. I can tell that you have a great spirit; don’t let it be broken and keep yourself pure. #Blessings

"Ethnicities," Paulette J. There is just one "race" -- the human race! And we are all of the human race.
I know, though, the pervasive problem. Many of us were either brought up with or otherwise exposed to such misleading & actually inherently prejudiced terms as "races" -- which term unfortunately suggests that we are not all simply of the one race began with Adam & Eve being created by the Almighty -- & we who believe all human beings are of equal biology & value have without realization taken to using these terms coined or distorted by the hateful segregationists although we don't agree with their wicked ideologies. From I have realized this, I have exercised great attendance to my vocabulary so that I am not using the terminology & phraseology of those with whom I disagree & so that I am not inadvertently promoting points of theirs. "Races" in this context is such terminological use to avoid.
Please note that I believe you are not an ethnic bigot but are rather just a person like me who loves every nationality & ethnic group of humanity. I'm just trying to point out that we need to be careful that we are not using the very same terms & phraseology of the opposite side, of the haters who somehow think themselves right in hating those who do not look like them or use their same language.
      Anyway, be blessed!

Black people come from ham.father of knaan, father of kush. Kush is the biblical name for africa. Genesis,10,6. Jews are the israelites, came from shem, whether you like it or not. Arabs in israel never owned the land. Palestine is a name that they adopted 45 years ago, came from all over (heard of nomad bedueans?) and it's a name that romans called the parish of juda in the 2'nd century, in order to wipe jewish identity. Jews returned to their land after 2000 years, and have the right to come back home, and fight terorism.

The first Europeans to settle in Jamaica were of the Critical Colón family followed by Jews fleeing from Bahía in Brazil after Spanish & Portuguese fleet recaptured it from the Dutch. According to what I've read, they were the ones who let the English know that the island was unfortified. So their roots go as far back as the 2nd decade of the 17th century.

Sharon Cato What's your point? I should hate people because their ancestors had a bit of involvement in the enslavement of some other people who I happen to share the same skin color with?
I'm a proponent of justice. Jews of today had no involvement in slavery, so it would be unjust to penalize them. To penalize present day jews for atrocities of their ancestors would be horrific. What if your grandfather was a rapist? Should the police arrest you because of him? Should we demand reparations from you because of him? Smh.
Moreover, slavery is an institution that had existed for centuries before the first white man had ever owned a black person in the Caribbean. Whites experienced slavery; asians experienced slavery; Indians experienced slavery.
Why must I become infuriated at people who are innocent of any slave related vices? It seems to me that you're racist against jews.
You should know that I have jewish history in my family. Don't expect me to subscribe some collectivist "black pride" bunk because my skin is black.
Take your anti Semitic remarks far away from here. I care about ideas, not race or creed.
