The RiNo district in Denver is basically an old run down warehouse district littered with homeless and has been gentrified as of late. I wouldn't call it swanky or upscale by any means just because new buildings are being put in amongst old run down warehouses and homeless camps. It's a cleanup process still in progress.
Thanks for the clarification. While I understood the nature of this area being built up, an article I read implied it was quite far along and upscale (possible PR :). I can say the rent there is upscale…
Definitely gentrified over the past 5-7 years. One of the best state-of-the art concert venues in America was built just down the street a few years ago - Mission Ballroom
Cool! My wife and I were Dallas, Terrell & San Antonio, TX 4/23-4/30. Got into some really nasty weather. Never knew it could rain so hard. Maybe next trip will try to synch with the Austin record show.
Damn shame about VMP... I too had never been a customer of that outfit, but sure was like everyone else; fired up and ready to take a vacation to Denver, to see what was said to be a must see production AND entertainment facility in the making and for vinyl enthusiasts. I just knew something seemed a bit amiss during all the purported delays in permitting. Had not an inking it would have been major VMP execs hiding from the rest of the board that it was not a separate entity but in fact sounds 100% VMP financed. Which is what the public had been falsely led to believe I think. Sounds like a case of truly they didn't have the funds to make it happen but were hell bent on trying anyway. Even if it is eventually open for the media to take a look I bet all the "enhancements" that were thought of to make it a "touristy/enthusiast" must visit attraction have been scrapped. Again, a shame. Well I guess I will scratch Denver and add Phoenix as a must travel to spot. I like hot environments over cold anyway!
If you ever want to have someone half the gas with you heading down to and back from the Austin Record Convention, let me know David! I saw the subject line of your video regarding VMP and I'm about to watch your video. I read an article 3 days ago about the firings, lawsuit, etc, etc going on at VMP. That doesn't sound too good. Hopefully you'll have some more information as I watch your video. Brian in Fort Worth 🎶
Are those Yes shootouts going to include the Steve Wilson remixes and the upcoming AP Atlantic 75 releases? If not, not sure you're going to get the best sounding LPs.
Interesting rabbit hole! I am a huge fan of the Steve Wilson remixes with many artists. For me, that is a reinterpretation of the original mix using the master multi-tracks to reimagine the mix. So for the purposes of this shootout, it isn’t really an apples to apples comparison of the same outcome with the variance being the mastering and/or lacquer cut. We expect the AP Atlantic 75th coming later this year as the next shootout against this winner and may bring in the remixes for that shootout. Thanks for mentioning this aspect of the catalog.
I don't think VMP even own the plant but their money was syphoned off to build it. It's owned by the former CEO and others. From what I read I don't think VMP will be pressing anything there. Maybe Cameron was just full of BS!
Opening a pressing plant is a good idea in theory. Actually accomplishing that goal? Very difficult from what I understand. My gut feeling and the word that came to mind when I first heard about this pressing plant and VMP has always been overextension. Wish them good luck in the recovery over this bumpy time eventhough I nevee have been huge fan of their business or the subscription model they present.
All true plus the reaction to build one was an extension of the pandemic boom which was relatively short lived. They needed a short term solution and used a long term project to solve it. That’s not a great recipe for success in any business.
Great video David.. and great pick ups
Thanks for the update, David 👍
loved the sound effects!
Thanks Dave✌️
