  • In this video I am replacing Rear Brakes on a 2007 Golf GTI. I am replacing both driver and passenger side brake rotors and brake pads. I also show how you can reset the brake piston without having the special tool. Thanks for watching. Cheers!

    Soooo I don't get these negative comments. You explained very well. You gave me the confidence to try it myself when my brakes are a goner. Thanks! And yes, it's nice people say to use brake cleaner, but try so in a more constructive way ;-)

      Hahaha, it’s all good. It is all part of putting my experience out there you know. I am glad that it helped you out though. Thanks for watching and engaging. I appreciate it.

    How did you exactly push in the caliper piston? I tried turning it clockwise with the pliers and pushing it in, even with the brake refill under the hood opened at the top ti release pressure

    • @AdrianBilladeau
      @AdrianBilladeau  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I used a C clamp with an attachment that fit into grooves on the piston so that I could have good pressure and twist it back in.

      @@zekariaze8799 you should be able to rent the kit from a local auto parts house. I picked mine up from Amazon . It makes compressing the piston so much easier. And has attachments for several styles of piston.

    I’m replacing the rear calipers , rotors and pads on mk5 gti. A quick question the new revision rotors are 282mm to avoid the rusty outside lip and my originals I pulled off were 286mm. Do I need a new 282mm caliper bracket or can I use the 286mm bracket ?

    • @AdrianBilladeau
      @AdrianBilladeau  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm, that’s a good question. I would assume no. It seems silly that VW would revise the rotor with the intention of also replacing the brackets. I haven’t read anything about it being a thing either. Also I didn’t replace the bracket on my MK5 and everything operated as it should.
      So to answer you, it shouldn’t be a problem. However, take it with a grain of salt. Definitely would ask a professional or someone who is well versed in VW. I only have my experience with mine you know. I would hate to give out or suggest bad information. Hope you get it back on the road soon man.

      I used the same bracket and all is good. I will see how pads bed into new rotors over time I guess. So far so good. Thanks dude

      Brake cleaner???? What’s that?…. Of course the rotors were cleaned before rolling out of the garage. I’m not a total newbie here fella. But hey, thanks for pointing out that I need to put more information a video. Cheers!

    What grit sandpaper did you use?

    • @AdrianBilladeau
      @AdrianBilladeau  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      110 or 220. Nothing to harsh. Just enough to take down the “high spots” you know.

    how do you know where to reset the calipers

    • @AdrianBilladeau
      @AdrianBilladeau  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't have to reset anything. The little guide pins (pieces covered with a rubber boot that move in and out) keep the pads "centered" and allow them to wear evenly. Hope this answers your question. Thanks for watching. Cheers.

    @ 7:14 why are you using two wrenches?

    • @AdrianBilladeau
      @AdrianBilladeau  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because the slide that is covered with a rubber boot was spinning as I was installing the bolt there. It has a place to use a wrench to keep it from spinning.
