Hi, I have a Canon EOS 77D and I'm deciding between two lenses. This and the EF-S 18-135mm IS STM lens. The overall age of this lens puts me off. However, the EF-S 18-135 is said to be significantly barrel-shaped in the 18-55mm range. So I wonder if the EF 28-135 IS USM lens wouldn't be better for me. Can please advise me on the choice?
Well I guess it depends on what you’re using the lens for? Do you need to go super wide? Or do you just need a zoom lens for general use? If you’re using it just for general purposes maybe go 28-135, not as wide but better images. I would choose better images and if I needed to have a wide field of view, look into a lens for that specific purpose. If you’re using for video with auto focus, depending on where your audio is placed, the lens can be loud when focusing.
Yes. I mainly use manual lenses when I shoot with my c100 mk1 because the auto focus isn’t great. Also manual lenses have better focal throws in my opinion.
Thank you! I have this lens for awhile and now want use it with M6 Mark II and a speed booster. Any opinions?
I have this lens and it is very imressive what it can do. It is shart edge to edge and the build quality is also very nice.
It’s a great and versatile lens, especially for the price.
I’m seeing this lens now for $50!! I shoot trade show events and need a decent zoom to run and gun with. Thanks for this!
You’re welcome. That’s a great deal for this lens.
Thanks for the review, I'm starting to pick up a few lenses and this was an extremely helpful video!
You're welcome! Glad it was helpful.
I am too looking to get this for video. I need stabilization. For church video as well !!
Thanks for the footage, i like the color, natural matt !

If you will use autofocus for video then the STM is the way. If you will use manual focus for video then the EF 28-135
28-135 better
Thanks for the review man!

Have you tried older manual focus lenses for video? Do you use focus confirmation (adapter with chip)?
Yes. I mainly use manual lenses when I shoot with my c100 mk1 because the auto focus isn’t great. Also manual lenses have better focal throws in my opinion.
