  • This is my own DIY replacement of a Guitar Case Handle. I'm not a professional guitar case repair person. Yes, I know there could be other ways to fix the broken handle on a guitar case but I only spent $8USD with shipping for the part and $1.18USD for #6 bolts, washers and nuts.

Nice job, looks great. I myself replaced my guitar handle as well but I used a rivet gun to give it more of that natural look.

Thanks for this. I went to a luggage repair shop today for handle replacement. He said it'd be $100 and a two man job and he'd need 2 days. I can get a new case for an additional $100. Needless to say, I walked out.

hey great video!! to make a quicker job of the glueing the liner you could have used some high temperature hot glue. It works so great!!

+ROGELIO ESCOBAR BLUE ROUTE JAZZ-TET Hot glue dries too hard so I used a flexible glue/silicone glue so I can re-lift the liner again if I need to.

Wish I knew technical name but a local hardware store would carry this. I’ll try to describe it…
It’s an aluminum piece with 2 parts. Female part is smooth on end that will /would show after install. Looks like metal tack head. This piece has threads within. Second piece (male) has a similar head (smooth and rounded) but 1/3 or so of its shaft is threaded. You push either piece through and connecting it to other piece then simply tighten

Where did you get the handle? I can't find one that's exactly like the one I have that's broken. The one you have there is exactly like mine.

Sorry I can not find my 2016 receipts or notes on where I purchased the part, but I remember it was a guitar parts online. I did a search on amazon today and see there are similar handles for under $10USD. Some are listed as handles for guitar cases, I'd choose one of those or if you have the exact measurements use that to make your choice if the seller will confirm the measurements. Good Luck!

@@retiredman2006 Thanks man! Guess I'll get one from Stew Mac. The only thing I hate about them is, no matter what you buy under 10 bucks, they charge like 12 dollars to ship it. If it's as small as a washer for 30 cents, they still charge 12 bucks to ship. Anyway, thanks again!

How did you cut the screws?

    • @charlieeng8089

I used a dremel type tool with a cutting disc right up to the nut but only after I tighten it down with a lockwasher.

What about using long pop rivets?

    • @retiredman2006
      @retiredman2006  8 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes you can use pop rivets if you don't like the nuts and bolts. I don't trust the pop rivets for longevity but that's just me.

      I wouldn't either without a washer. :)

He butchered the hell out of the inside of the case. He would never touch my case.

How would you have done this project? Any suggestions would be helpful for everyone.

@@retiredman2006 you need to allow the cutting edges of the drill to cut. Not just turn it on and ram it through. The material your drilling, the speed and the feed all matter.

@@BillyC5361 Thanks for yor helpful comment regarding how I drilled causing the some of the splinters. But most of the splinters was caused by pulling the plush material away from the wood part of the case before I drilled. In hindsight I should have re-enforced the area where the handle bolts mounted thru.
