Can Lucas Oil Stabilizer fix mild rod knock?

- My civic had mild rod knock due to extreme overheating in the engine. I later tore this engine down and found all the rod bearings had shrunk a little bit and would definitely cause a light knocking noise as you can hear in the video.
Lucas oil stabilizer probably won't help for rod knock due to spun bearings or anything more severe.
I had a lot less rodknock than that, but I use it every oil change and it has never knocked since. I still run the engine hard and no problems so far. I've done this for 2 years
I think what happens is old/higher mileage cars run a bit hotter than new and the oil goes thin, would explain the thick viscosity and clearance changes with heat/wear
@Yt_ WhiteBoyy that or you could even try putting in a different velocity oil
My impala just developed a slight knock. About to try this first thing in the morning. Pray for me
@@slitherdurant Did it work?
@@alexandercalderon1859 yes it did. Hasn’t knocked since then an I’ve put couple thousand miles on the car
I've been using Lucas in my big block 94 7.5 liter Ford for 20 years. I think it's the reason why it has 207+ thousand miles and still running strong.
Using in 6.4l powerstroke. Works like new.
I used it on GM 5.3 that had a loud lifter noise, Lucas sure helped it quiet down and increase oil pressure
rod knock means there's a physical gap, noise is friction. It can't fill in the gap, but if it reduces the noise it reduces the friction and therfore slows the rate of wear. It buys you time... but if the knock is that light you should just put a set of bearings in. If it starts knocking with the lucas in it, you've probably ovaled your rods thus now you gotta pull the head... maybe the trans too to replace the crank.
That’s awesome you got a good result hey I have a 2001 Firebird Pontiac fusion 5.7 L we’re not rattling noise I added this on my card definitely made a big difference it’s good stuff oil stabilizer
I think the thing to remember is that its generally a sign of worn or buggered bearings. Bearing oriented rod knock is a disaster waiting to happen. Additives only thicken things and take away the noise, it doesn't fix the problem. I suppose if you have a really old car and don't care about collateral damage to other parts in your engine then Lucas and other type products are ok.
I bought a civic for $150 that knocked like CRAZY. I threw 2 bottles of Lucas and drove it for 100 miles before replacing the engine. 330k mile D16Y7
Definitely quieted my R18 for a day or two, but not really meant for a serious knock from a spun bearing. Had D16Y7, K20Z1, K24Z7, and R18A. The R gave out on me, but I was beating on it and I didn't know previous owner's maintenance.
Sounds like it could use a valve adjustment too
Lucas won't fix the problem, but will reduce the noise and prolong the life of the engine, my friend did an extra 100K with is, and it's still working good.
An extra 100k is way more than just prolonging the engine LOL, that's practically a second life
how much did he put in?
Your friend went an EXTRA 100K on a rod knock with this product???
Lucas is the shit. The Trany fluid and the power steering restore Lucas makes also works well
Lucas tranny fix is goated
Man, a whole bottle of Lucas on a 3.8 quarts engine is high dose.
Well if it’s rattling like that it probably wouldn’t hurt to pour all of that in there
Got a rod knock in my engine I have a 2002 Mitsubishi Galant yes what's a 2.4 l and the rockmart started two days ago on the Sunday got the Lucas today so hopefully it fixes it
Is ight nun too serious but shoutout to Lucas oil for keeping that engine good 👍 👏 👌 😏
I think viscosities have gotten too light, for two factors- Overhead cams need lighter oils to lift and lubricate the taller engine and secondly, too many lemmings following racing practices, where they like a lightweight sewing machine oil for top spinning speed, where thick oil just gets in the way. BUT, the racing world is only ever using the oil for 500 miles or so between rebuilds, you're driving thousands of miles and probably generally TOO FAR between changes. All the additive products are then THICK stuff (after the flush at least) to make up for the thin oils not coating well when tolerances are wearing things out. "500 mile" light sewing machine oil isn't lubricating very well then, especially full of grit and gunk. I've had to run a lot of high mile used cars through the decades, and before DOHC I usually used straight 40 and even 50 weight when you could still get it, and NEVER had any internal engine problems up into the 250,000 plus ranges. You have to change the oil on schedule or SOONER though. And if you want thicker viscosities now- here's a tip- mix in some gear oil to boost it up. It doesn't leak through gaskets as fast either.
Do a video on MotorKote, that stuff is pretty good 👍🏻
Damn that is amazing!! WTH!! I’m sold!
my question is, why not use higher viscosity than recommended?
What I do I run Mobil 1 10w30 in my Miata and they are rated for 5w30 thicker oil helps with lifter tick
@@farmerbobbygrows3338 10w30 is not thicker than 5w30. It's only thicker when the engine is cold, once it's at operating temp they're the same viscosity.
It probably just needs a valve adjustment
If that was true adding Lucas would have made it worse.

I have a vw cc. 2.0 tsi... cambridge was worn and so are cams. not terrible wear but enough to lower oil pressure. wear was caused by screen that dislodged in camrbidge. I dont have the money to replace both cams, cambridge, and possibly the head of the engine. to get a few more miles should i give oil stabilizer a shot?
You’ll have to use two bottles to stop the knocking noise , Then hurry up & sell the car
That sounds way better, just be gentle with her until you can find a new engine or a new car
Just curious, when you change the oil and filter next time, do you have to add Lucas oil stabilizer every time or is this a one time application?
You have to add it every time. This product thickens the oil inside the engine as well as conditions it to give it more protection propertys.
Like the other writer explained. Every oil change. I have been using
1 qt Lucas
4 qt super tech oil
Every 5000 miles in our 2007 Jeep. It's 2020 and it has 219k miles and not once have I had to add oil between changes
What kind of air intake is that and how do you like it? Besides the sound does it do anything else for your car like add more power, better mpg or help your engine run cooler? Do you still use it? Any info would be greatly appreciated. I liked the video and subscribed. Thanks!
its short ram , not gonna do anything on power or performance(unless you tune it or even worse because of hot air , onlything it change is the sound , louder vtec crossover
Good stuff and makes a good difference
It is a little more expensive per oil change but still way less than pep boys
Did you take out any oil before putting the Lucas stabilizer?
I didn't take out any oil, but the oil level was on the lower side before I added the oil stabilizer. It was a little bit over the 2nd dot on the dip stick after adding.
Okay thanks you don’t know how much you just helped me 😂
@@CtrlAltDefeatTV how long did it work? think i would only add enough to stop the knock & a lil bit more for good measure. You dont really want to use too much as your stressing the oil pump & possibly causing oil starvation if you dump the whole bottle in. I figure if you only have a slight knock a lil bit will do it
Does the Lucas help with bad rings as well ???
think i would rather use restore oil additive for that. it does have some positive reviews, but theres no guarranty it will work
engine still running quiet, how many miles since you used lucas 1st time?
Did you end up tearing down the engine because it got worse?
It didn't get worse, per say. But I was going to sell the car soon so I replaced the rod bearings since it's not that difficult on a honda.
@@CtrlAltDefeatTV can you make a video on how to replace rod bearings on a Honda?
Mys has lite knock from 2-4K rev up after that she ok no noise my eJ1 27 yrs old same engine over 280k miles iam try this this weekend if I can get her last 300k ish “ my 700$ worth investment paid it self off ..I have b20v with Gsr trans stash away in case in she gives up .
How's it doing?
Try banana peels from at least 2 or 3 bananas...that will make it quiet
I hate additives as a general rule, it it might be worth trying Ametech Restore. Not sure it'll save it but it might help.
i let restore work for 500 miles on fresh mobil 1 oil... made my slight knock a lil worse but im thinking it could keep it from blowing oil past the rings later, thats sometimes the progression of this situation etc...
Sounds good to me
will this help wristpin slap ? or piston slap ?
No, it won’t. You can drive a car with piston slap for a long time though so don’t worry about it.
If you try a long polymer additive to the oil it'll help line the cylinder sleeve slightly and reduce piston slap noise, helps for ring wear and minimise any fuel dilution too. Only draw back is it leaves slight carbon deposits on the top of the piston not enough to make any difference though. I can show you a picture my ej257 turbo short block before I cleaned it up if you need?
@@zakmack5028 I am not getting any blowby. my oil stays very clean. After 3000 miles my oil looks good but i change it anyway. what product do you recomend ? can you please name some ? Thank you.
fix rod knock tighten up lifters
You can’t fix it, you simply mask/dampen the sound...
@kirk mcloren lucas fills the space between bearing surfaces more than stock oil... its just enough to prevent the knock so it kinda works but may cause lil oil starvation on other parts due to the thicker oil not being able to flow thru eng like the correct oil for eng would, plus will put more pressure on oil pump... think i might add something like high tech 'Tufoil' (oil additive) too
for badly worn: up to 3qts of a 5qt change! - says the bottle
I just bought a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee off a guy with a rod knock in it. I can add the Lucas oil to it without having to change the oil out first right? Cause the guy just changed it before I bought it.
Your set you can put it in dirty oil just wont work as well
lol thats not even mild
Stop with the obsession.
Mine was worse and ran another 100k.
@@podatrb3360 shut the fuck up loser.
@@podatrb3360really?
Stab a hole in the bottom of the jug and it will flow out faster 👍
rip.
lol
it will prevent it when you use it normally
puts too much pressure on oil pump, could cause oil starvation too. If you really want to use it maybe use a 1/4 of bottle
Is it OK to use in the winter time months or would it be too thick on really cold starts
@@robrostocki8966 I was using in the winter also but only about half a bottle. I live in fl and still run it. 320k on the honda and camshaft look mint
@@josephfreeman1427how many miles have you driven on the rod knock?
@AlexGonzalez-ye9pc none rod knock is from not changing your oil enough. You don't add lucas to a already blown motor
