    Where else on TH-cam can you get a timely grass joke followed by an expert demonstration of value and texture gradation including the insight that the foreground darks in a field represent the depth of visible shadow? What a channel!

    Multiple lessons in one video here. Looks like the big step up to becoming a painter is starting to see in values rather than objects, but it's not an easy transition for weekend painters like me. Thanks for another great video! This one will be a hit.

      You can make it easy by switching your attention away from what it is to the value comparisons, and you can do that any time, anywhere.

    Excellent tutorial Ms. Mize - just like all the others! Question: what type of green are you using? Is it viridian? terre verte? sap green? etc. Or did you mix it? I apologize for my ignorance. Thanks a bunch! : )

    • @IntheStudioArtInstruction
      @IntheStudioArtInstruction  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That particular green is a mix of Rembrandt Viridian and Rembrandt Transparent Oxide Red. Those two tube colors can yield a nice range of greens by changing the proportions of TOR added to the Viridian. Note that other Viridians are not dark and transparent enough to make this work.

    How do I interpret light and shadow hitting the surface of the water and light and shadow underwater, on the bottom of a creek bed, and reflections at the same time? It is complicated.

    • @IntheStudioArtInstruction
      @IntheStudioArtInstruction  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Not really. Look at it, not as what it is, but it's visual components, i.e., color, value and movement. Things get difficult when we sent the wrong messages to our brains, but when we switch our attention to the visual components that are causing us to see it as we do, we have a better idea of how to express it.

    That makes so much sense. You most likely explained this before, but can you tell me what do you mix your paints with to get that consistency?

    • @IntheStudioArtInstruction
      @IntheStudioArtInstruction  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I rarely add anything to the paints to change the consistency. These are straight out of the tube. I use only brands that have the consistency I want without adding any medium -- mostly the Gamblin and Rembrandt brands.

    • @IntheStudioArtInstruction
      @IntheStudioArtInstruction  ปีที่แล้ว

      No water. Oil and water don't mix. An good quality hog bristle fan should work great. If you load it sparsely with paint, begin the stroke on the brushes tip, give it a slight tug and flip it upwards, it will work. It works best on a damped surface.

    • @IntheStudioArtInstruction

      It depends upon the weather, time of day, how bright the sun is shining on the distant landscape or whether there is overcast. Use a value finder and do some research by holding the value finder at arms length and comparing what you see with the values on the finder.
