Proud Sydney sider, I ran the Sydney Marathon this year and enjoyed every minute on the course. Can’t wait to be able to run a world major marathon in my city. Bring it on.
Nice summary!! I ran 2024 Sydney Marathon and the elevation gain is actually 429 metres on my Garmin / Strava. I have booked my accommodation for next year in Sydney and hopefully the Ballot (you will have a first and second choice) will be kind to me. Otherwise I will be heading out to Mudgee for the Marathon there :).
Fingers crossed you get in mate, but having run this year I reckon you are going to be pretty safe getting a spot. Mudgee might have to wait another year. 👍
I ran it this year and absolutely loved the experience. I would love to run it again next year but I won’t decide until the entry information comes out. Having a spot secured for 2025 will be hard to pass.
Booked flights and accommodation, if I don’t make the cut I still likely go and have a look, hopefully there is a few ways to get in like offering some spots from running clubs.
I know Wayne ( Race Director) and he's a good bloke, but admit it means I'll never run it again, no interest in a Marathon with 20,000+ starters, that's me.i admit I lost interest in this race once it stopped doing the 2000 Olympic Course to Homebush.Great run for tourists with the run over the Coathanger but I guess I've done that 1000 odd times back when I was living in Sydney in the 90s
That's fair enough mate, but it's a bit of a novelty for most running across the closed Sydney Harbour Bridge and finishing at the Opera House is cool. But like you said, you can do it every day, just don't think it's the same without the atmosphere of thousands of like-minded runners. 👍
Congratulations Sydney 🎉🎉 Australia deserves a bit more of the world stage. Amazing beautiful Country, great people ❤️
It's going to be big next year. Hoping to be there. 👍
Reminds me of the Sydney Olympics announcement: "And the winner is Sydney!".
It's a bit like that. It's been a huge build up, but there was always a feeling Sydney would get it. 👍

It's fantastic, and you are in prime position to get an entry. Good luck. 👍

I hope you get a spot!
Can only throw an entry in and hope for the best. 👍
Congrats to Sydney!
Absolutely. 👍

I reckon next year is going to be popular, being the first time as an official major. 👍
Great news can’t wait
It should be fantastic. 👍
Awesome. 🎉
Sure is. 👍

Hey mate, yeah it will be interesting to see how they work the entries. I can see next year being hugely popular. 👍
I've contacted a tour group I got from Sydney's website for NZ but not heard back yet. I'm going to make an effort to get there.
I hope you make it Alan, I reckon it's going to be big next year. 👍
Waiting for my email for the candidacy club ballot. Booked flights and accom. Will be there for it either way.
Hope that email has arrived. It's going to be big next year. 👍
