According to EN ISO 9934-3, AC magnetic yokes must provide enough lifting force to pick up a 10 lb / 4.5 kg weight. The standard does not specify any calibration requirements, and does not specify how frequently the user should verify the lifting strength. Other MT standards, such as ASTM E1444, require the lifting strength to be verified at least every six months. In general, we see the industry trending towards checking the strength each day before use as a best practice.

Hello Catrina. Magnetic Particle Testing is a nondestructive test method utilizing magnetic leakage fields and suitable indicating materials to disclose surface and near-surface discontinuity indications. You can find a primer on the subject here: www.magnaflux.com/Magnaflux/Blog/MPI-Primer-SlideShare

    1. Your Captcha thing on the website and its fuzzy photos prevent me from asking questions that way.
    2. When I came to work here I found a can of 14AM manufactured January 2013 and best used by January 2014. The fresh cans we use offer a five year window of use. What is the difference?

We go by Shelf Life Statement. If you have the product past the shelf life date be sure to re-certify it.
If you are in North America you can follow the Shelf Life Statement here: www.magnaflux.com/Files/Corporate/Magnaflux_Shelf-Life-Statement_English.pdf.

HAHAHAHAHHA why did you just dump the powder on the weld. You have to lightly dust it on there, that's the most ridiculous instruction I've ever seen.
