- Australian athletes participating in the 2024 Paris Olympics will be told to leave the Athletes Village as soon as their events are over, in an attempt to discourage partying. Olympic swimmer Cate Campbell tells us why the change is being made.

So basically, they’re saying they only want winners to stay. This is very shameful
It's about performance? What ever happened about the Olympic idea of "It's not about winning, it's about taking part".
The olympic opening ceremony didn't look too performance related
Used and then thrown out ,to say you can stay in Paris where dose the money come from every rude and shameful
That’s unfair. Athletes should be allowed to stay for the duration of the Games. Also they should be able to be there to support fellow athletes in other sports.
Well at the end of the day, it’s just to being cheap. Keeping expense down
It really is disgusting. Let people have fun after they play their game.
Who's gonna fund them? You and your mom?
@@VibePolice
Your mum.
@@VibePolice
Why does an American care about how Australia pays for its athletes to stay at the Olympics? Australia has paid for all Athletes to say at the Olympics pre covid
@@VibePolicethe same people that has funded them in the past.
Boy, this is cold-blooded. Is the Australian government this year. And do they just use their athletes and throw them away above all this is just not kind shame of whoever is in charge. This shows complete disrespect for the athletes they did their part.
Dare you take away from their right to be able to participate not only in the opening ceremonies but the closing ceremonies. Shame on those of you who make these decisions when you probably haven't even participated in an Olympic event ever.
If they want to stay and cheer on teammates and I'm sure they have earned a small vacation. It is not like they want a free ride for a month or two. geez. Let them enjoy the whole experience.
That’s terrible! In for a penny in for pound. Those athletes should have the full experience!! Shame on them!😊
You can bet that the Olympic suits and hangers-on will be there for the duration. They always seem to find funding for them
This makes zero sense. Ban the partying for athletes who stay in the village.
Did anyone else hear that the female American swim team, don't know if they meant all of them, moved out to a hotel and trained in the pool, so the Aussies girls couldn't see? If it's true, what was the point?
If they have the money to get a room in Paris, they might be happy to find a hotel without cardboard beds and air conditioning, and good food. PS what about the people that competed early, they had to compete with everyone there, so why do the people who compete later need quiet?
At the early point everyone was still competing, as they are done competing they are having to leave. Only the people that are still competing and it competition mode are allowed to stay.
I'm 2:36 seconds in. I can already tell this Athletes Committee lady, or whatever, is simply describing the Olympic Committee's attempt at inclusiveness. In other words, It's too triggering for the loosing athletes to hang with the winners so they push them out like a used soda can. What an imposition on the athlete's happiness! Who is this lady to tell everyone how to feel about their particular 4 years of training? Athlete have the right to enjoy there efforts for the entire time. Woke sucks.
Oh Cate I am sure you did not party at all after you were done swimming the first week! Come ooon! Most these guys are broke, and you are expecting them to go get a $600/night hotel?? Gee man, that’s nuts
American here,if we tried that the Americans would riot😅
Nah, they wouldn’t.
*They train for years! let them stay*
From 3 to whoever old they are when they make in the Olympics. They start very young.
This is absolutely ridiculous. These athletes give up everything to train and now you’re kicking them out of the village?? Why? Now they can relax and enjoy the experience. Come on!
Along with serving undercooked and raw food? No AC?
Will the competitors who are competing in the second week have to wait to check in or can they stay the whole fortnight?
How insulting! They should be allowed to stay and cheer on their fellow olympians. So sad!
The Australian delegation bosses are the ones imposing this on their own athletes. The Olympics organization never asked for it.
Get the swimmers out of there. They are such bad representatives of Oz and just tired of our Aussie swimmers and coaches constantly pointing vague doping suspicions at other countries, especially China. We are not a racist country, but our swim federation sure acts like one.
Well said. You have removed 'white Asutralian Policy' from my head.
Time to cancel Olympics
They don’t want to be responsible if they get hurt walking around Paris.
Maybe the Australian athletes should think about going to another country and compete for them if their Olympic comity’s are so cheap!
The Australian athletes definitely should refuse to attend the closing ceremony and leave their delegation bosses on their own with their suits and bow ties.
Hey, typical of the greedy corporatist not wanting to properly compensate the athletes who do a lot of the hard work in performing at the games.
Australia Olympic committee does not want to pay for athletes done competing in events to party on their dime is the real issue.
The Beastie Boys once sang "You gotta fight for your right to PARTY"!!!!
Australia is one of the very few countries that send such a large contingent of athletes that have no chance of medaling. Australia sent 461 athletes who took home about 90 medals (including each individual in team sports). That means about 370 athletes didn’t medal. We shouldn’t be sending athletes to the Olympics so they can have a holiday.
Can only imagine the things Australian government waste Aussie tax dollars on
Ridiculous. Sure if those who have competed are acting inappropriately and affecting those still to compete then they should be told to leave. But if you train for years to get to the Olympics then you should be able to partake in all the experience of being there. Ban alcohol or drunkenness, but they should be at the closing ceremony if they choose to be.
What about an area of the village where if you’ve competed you go and stay with the other competitors who have finished their competitions? Then you can support your teammates and view the different athletic events.
The Australian delegation bosses are the ones imposing this on their own athletes. The Olympics organization never asked for it.
The French are making so much money, but they won't even let teammates support other athletes. Robbery! Half of the experience is sharing with others on your level. How can you say just stay out of the village? They told the swimmer from Brazil to go home when she decided to stay out of the village. Hypocrite!
Delegation executives as usual, mistreat athletes by taking idiotic decisions and forgetting they are there to care for athletes and respect them. Aside note, the picture of the Olympic Village shown is from Munich 1972 and those buildings were turned into a residential area as originally planned. The Munich village was great, real beds, large rooms that had good temperature control and even underground parking. It housed close to 15 thousand personnel. We were comfortable and well rested. Complaints were mostly about food, as usual in any Olympics.
if France was not making billions off the Olympics this could be an arguing point but is just one of the truly disgusting things that was done in this Olympics.
Out of all the past Olympic Villages. THis year's is probably the worst. The beds alone would make one want to live in a hotel. I'm frankly surprised any country would want to stay in this year's.
I was the head of the Philippine swimming delegation at the 2000 Olympic Games in Australia, easily the best of the millennium! 👏👏👏
Why should they leave and having to spend so much to party- its also about socialize with others and support others.
Funny even the woman being interviewed admitts the positive impact this has on performance.
The way athletes have been treated this year at the Olympics has been pretty disturbing 😢 I hope nobody stays for the closing ceremonies
I mean this an Australian decision no?
The Australian delegation bosses are the ones imposing this on their own athletes. The Olympics organization never asked for it.
With this ruling, the Aussies aren't even allowed to attend the closing ceremony! (totally unfair)
Thank you for your participation and representation. Now get the F out.
Saying frankly I don't understand this discussion.....this rubbish no Olympic.....
It’s a ridiculous decision.
This like not allowing a graduating senior to attend prom.
If I was to put on an Australian accent and then talk about hard drinking Aussies binge drinking and puking I would be immediately condemned for shameful stereotyping! Yet that's exactly what Cate Campbell does; twice, in a brief interview!
Australia is wrong..cheap….
But why are they throwing out only Australians? 🤔😳😳😂
The Australian sports organization are the ones kicking their own athletes out.
Australians would crush at Organized Whining. Not so good in the pool, though.
Did they know this before the games started, or was this decision made after the fact?
What is this WE business she is nothing more than a mouthpiece for the establishment.
They worked 4 years and all they gets is 48 hrs.
Was it like that in Rio and Tokyo too? Or just in Paris?
Paris swimmer Marchand broke all records but French newspaper Le Figaro reported that when the Olympic committee went to their village and asked for anti doping test, (the team were informed beforehand) and surprisingly found Marchand was not there but went to stay somewhere in Paris. The committee then stop pursuing and let it go. Funny thing is Marchand had a competition that morning. The Chinese got tested 20 times a day and this Marchand guy was never tested. French athletes have privileges.👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻

Tokyo was because of COVID - and that applied as I understand to all athletes in the Village…
James Magnussen should probably keep his mouth closed on this topic after what happened in London. His behaviour in the village during competition perfectly illustrates the point Matt Carroll is making.
The Paris olympics was about cost cutting etc right? Eg. the accommodation - vege meals, and no aircon, with some athletes needing to sleep in the park etc.
An excuse to cut costs at the athlete's expense.
Theres only 3 persons per sqaure kilometer... Id be hungry to party and socialize - every 4 years.
Totally NUTS! NUTS! NUTS! I'm sure they will think twice about going to the 2028 games, why train for 4 years to make it to the BIG SHOW because 48 hours after the end of your event, you are given the boot, not cool.
Man look, go find the USA team, tell them what's going on, go get a sleeping bag and no doubt you can crash on the floor of their rooms.
I mean, if you just stay anyway- what are they going to do? Hop a flight and drag you out?
It sounds like a good policy. They're not saying they have to totally leave the country, but just the Olympic village. It saves the resources for the athletes who are really competing. It probably also helps give them better rest at night too because when an athlete's event is over, there's nothing to do but socialize and disturb the neighbors.
The Australian delegation bosses are the ones imposing this on their own athletes. The Olympics organization never asked for it.
What are they going to do, get a bailiff in and evict them.
The Australian delegation bosses are the ones imposing this on their own athletes. The Olympics organization never asked for it.
Paris, the worst games ever
The Australian delegation bosses are the ones imposing this on their own athletes. Disrespectful and cheap.
The Olympics organization never asked for it. Bashing them for no reason is shameful.
Wahahahahah vomiting in the gutter- that is so Australian. Love it!
SHAMEFUL 🇫🇷 FRANCE , THE WORST OLYMPIC EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😮😮😮😮😮
Just UN Australian....Dawn would never had been able to knock off a flag 😂😂😂😂
there must be hundreds of australian athletes who were denied of the paris olympics experience.it's a privilage to represent your country. athletes shouldnt have a sense of wntitlement. ause your own moeny for an extended vacation, not tax payers' money.
Idiotic comment. Which athletes will be attending the closing ceremony in the Australian delegation if 95% have been kicked out before ?? Ridiculous decision.
Aussies.❤🎉😂
Now we know where all this is leading in future... next Olympics ensure that you take a Plan B to fully enjoy the experience.
LoL they said that it was the God of wine 🍷 in the opening ceremony when the complaining started now, no partying?
This is all about the POLITICS and the new generation of WOKENESS.👎
The Australian delegation bosses are the (almost only) ones imposing this on their own athletes. The Olympics organization never asked for it.
Rather harsh policy! They deserve the right to cheer on others!!!
The Australian delegation bosses are the (almost only) ones imposing this on their own athletes. The Olympics organization never asked for it.
they been used for owners greediness.
Safety too is one if them
Paris has shown the world exactly how not to host a global, world class competition.
The Australian delegation bosses are the (almost only) ones imposing this on their own athletes. The Olympics organization never asked for it.
They should allow Stygian stay until the End of
This is for everyone, not just australian swimmers! Only french can stay, but they are at home, they have homes in, or arround,
Paris, so they dont even stay in the Olimpic Village.
😢😢😢😢😢
just another compliance test. shame on cate campbell. captured. this policy makes no sense.
Is this for every country....if it is a rule for every country then OK...but don't single out one country...
It is absolutely NOT.
The Australian delegation bosses are the ones imposing this on their own athletes. The Olympics organization never asked for it.
Cate Campbell turns into the typical official, goodbye cate you’ve lost me as a fan
France Olympics worst... Dontvallow them to host again..
🇺🇲 🇦🇺 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Misleading title, this goes for all countries involved not from france. Most athletes attending probably dont even drink.
No... NO, NOPE, WRONG, INCORRECT. Nearly every other country is allowing it's athletes to remain at the Olympic village until the closing ceremony of the competition. It's true that there was a 48hr rule implemented for the 2021 postponed summer Olympics in Tokyo, it is no a requirement in the current competition.
After your event you're now persona non grata
The Australian delegation bosses are the ones imposing this on their own athletes. The Olympics organization never asked for it.
Supremely lame of them.
Kate the killjoy !
What a joke

The Australian delegation bosses are the (almost only) ones imposing this on their own athletes. The Olympics organization never asked for it.
What a shambles this Paris Olympics has been. Feel sorry for the athletes. 😢
Ask the Aussie delegation bosses about their own idiotic decisions, not the Paris Olympics organization that never asked for any athlete to leave early. Shame on the délégation boss.
Paris is a terrible host
The Australian delegation bosses are the (almost only) ones imposing this on their own athletes. The Olympics organization never asked for it.
All about money.

Go woke or go home 😂 what a joke. Just unfollowed Cate
who is she trying to convince herself or the public.
Huh??
LOL… that will not “enhance” the experience … anyways !!! 🤷🏻. No issue for me since I do not compete, only follow the winter Olympic games, the World Cup and the 24hrs of Le Mans 🤠🤷🏻
GOOD ON YOU ..MATE..😂😂😂😂
