    I learned shotokai karate in Belgium with sensei Harada between 1990 and 1998. He was a very patient teacher with particular skills. Always insisting on relaxation and softness. It was almost impossible to touch him because of his special skills and capacity to move and to anticipate every movement you could make. Kata were executed very slowly with no power. I think he was teaching the essence of budo, requiring a focused mind and no special attitude to deliver the necessary energy. A wonderful experience that I will never forget.

    There is so much to add about the KDS and about the way to approach and experience the legacy of all those masters. Thank you for this video. The books are but the beginning, and the practice is still ongoing and developing, thanks to a group of formidable practitioners.

    Good idea to show the existence of Shotokai, and Mr. Egami´s contribution to improving the name of Karate . His book Beyond techniques gave me a real insight into the gradual changes of mindset and training that never ends. May he rest in peace. Best regards to all practitioners.Paul,69

    As far as I know, Shotokai was the association in which Shotokan Karate was under. The heading on the video is misleading, presenting Shotokai as the style of Karate, when its Shotokan

    • @THEWISDOMOFTHEEAST
      @THEWISDOMOFTHEEAST  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It's actually not misleading. Many who practice shotokai consider it a style, as it differs from shotokan in some aspects. Do a Google search and see that there are several Shotokai gym websites

      Actually Shotokai is a style of Karate. I know because I have a black belt in Shotokai and a brown belt in Shotokan. The Two styles are very similar except that Shotokan is more rigid, focusing more on speed and rigidity and competition. Where as Shotokai is more fluid and focuses on relaxation and generating power by using your entire body while relaxing the muscles that you are not moving. It trains you how to more effectively use your body. You have probably heard the term dead weight or have tried to lift a limp child. Imagine that weight behind a punch and then you have Shotokai. I would not want to be in front of that punch. But Shotokai is more than that. It teaches you how to effectively use your body. I use Shotokai everyday. For example when I carry bags of groceries I hold bags in my hands and I only use my wrist muscles. Not arm or shoulder muscles, so my arms and neck never get tired or sore. Both styles have their advantages so must be respected.

      @@elliottchurchill7314 You don't know what you're talking about. Please stop... SHOTO-KAN isn't a style, it's a corruption taught by the junior NAKAYAMA... after Roushi sensei's death in 1957 ) This is ALL in Japanese texts - further if you doubt me - go look in the books, published by the SHOTOKAN ( not a style remember ) ... I appear on page 57 of the 50 Year Anniversary Book, published by the SHOTOKAN - check my videos...

    There is a great deal of information NOT INCLUDED in this... Australia, was at one time very closely associated with the Soyo Juku Shotokai Karate-Do - Ikeda Yasuo was the superintendent of Chuo University SHOTOKAN karate club. Ikeda lived with Egami for over 24 years - he is my teacher, before his passing in 1992.

    Shotokai was not founded by Gichin Funakoshi, who established Shotokan. Shotokai was an all Japanese "deviation" from Shotokan, albeit with some logic in rejecting the sports transformation of the original Okinawan karate. Egami unfortunately took an absurd path in imagining a no-touch form of combat which discredited him.

    Your misleading - Funakoshis legacy culminated in Shotokan as developed by Nakayama. All the pictures shown are mostly from the first generation shotokan practioners. Personally I dont know what you teach in shotokai except sliding acrosss the floor. To be rude it is nonsense - tai chi is of more value.
