Hell, Morrowind came in a worse state game wise but its engine was pretty solid so it is very easy to get it working, Oblivion... not even close.
Seeing what a group of modders can do is truly incredible and inspiring, but also depressing. It makes you wish that actual game studios were this dedicated to crafting amazing experiences instead of just thinking about the money. Think what these modders could do if they had the funding of a tripe a studio behind them.
It just shows you what can be done with some extra time and actual love for the game... I don't know why they don't pay these people to work for them, but I guess they would just sell mods as a remaster or some DLC
These modders are doing it for the passion of it, using their free time and not making money from it. Game Devs do it for a living, they need to get paid to eat, pay bills and to pay shareholders and financial backers. Sure, Devs often have a passion for their work, but the passion for your job and passion for a project you'll voluntarily doing are two completely different types of passions. One is for the love of it and the other is to ensure everyone gets paid who needs to be paid and to make sure the company makes enough money that it doesn't go bankrupt by either crafting a game that didn't sell as much as they hoped or something like Covid happens. On a side note, the Devs typically aren't to blame, the blame should fall on the CEOs and the shareholders/banks.
Capitalism as a whole is about making as much money as possible, hence the rise of MTX and shitty yearly repeats of games. If management is beholden to shareholders or care more about the bottom line than quality / passion, then it invariably shows. @@morrius0757

This is a very small summary of what I've done so far 😂
Man. Watching these modders work tirelessly to make a 16 year old game look and play like a 12 year old game is somehow simultaneously inspiring and sad.
Wow. This takes me back. This was my first real pc game I ever really played. I can not even count how many hours I put in this. Also I unfortunately had a gpu or drivers that would cause the screen to go black when you entered a certain cave. Ah GOOD TIMES. Thanks for posting this.
I had Oblivion on 360, and my younger brother had it on PC. I saw that he could mod it, and that's what converted me from a console gamer to a PC gamer.
My first time playing Skyrim I bugged out the Companions questline by fast travelling.... the wrong way lol. Course I didn't know how it'd happened at the time. Still, few things are as memorable as Skyrim.
@@citizen_grub4171 Any alternative would probably be just as bad or uncanny valley. I've yet to experience a Bethesda mod that hasn't had their voice acting quality all over the place (good and bad acting and different microphones, etc). At least Oblivion is consistent. Anyways, the mod is trying to celebrate Oblivion, not bash on it, so replacing all the voice-acting would go against that.
@@r0ckbass I didn't say that it was good... Just that it was consistent. Oblivion has semi-flat, non-intrusive acting all the way. In every damn mod I've played with voice acting however, there has been that one aspiring VA with a decent mic doing over-the-top acting, to some amateur who thought it would be cool to do a couple flat lines through the lap-top/phone microphone. Every now and then you get something in the middle that is actually good. But the range in ability and equipment usually takes me out of it, and that would definitely happen in such a massive undertaking as REVOICING EVERY NPC IN OBLIVION.
They're just placeholders for now. They're actually not allowed to use any of the original voices for copyright reasons, so a lot of the voice acting will be redone.
Damn this looks good. Kinda wish the faces weren't default Skyrim ones or that we got zoom ins on faces like in Oblivion. But I completely understand what modeling every face in the game would mean.
The nostalgia goosebumps are real. I am blown away at the amount of love and passion poured into this project, and I can't wait to re experience this game in a whole new light!
All your efforts will never go unnoticed. We gamers appreciate all the dedication everyone that pitched in to make this possible. Keep up the great work
I will be more impressed when I am actually able to play it and its not buggy as hell like Morroblivion was Edit: That was a real shame btw I was able to complete fighters guild and half of Mages guild and then I started running into bugged quest trackers and triggers not working or npcs not being there
@@gokublack8342 so your basically stuck with Skyrim type bugs and in a morrowind type environment, do any console commands work? With the devs estimate of a release date in 2060 when nexus no longer supports Skyrim mods ever again you might get a solution then....
@@HUYI1 Yes sort of for quest related stuff or NPCs you need to know the exact ids which won't be what it was in Morrowind because those IDs are changed and as it's a mod and not an official game its harder to look up what certain NPC or item ids are but yes if you knew what console commands and item/NPC ids to use you could theoretically get past the broken stuff I was able to get past a few of the broken quests but honestly it got old having to search hours to find what might be the right ID to console command that NPC etc. I got too frustrated and quit. Skyrim engine places nicer with mods than Oblivion engine did though so there might be hope. Oblivion was alot more finicky when it came to mods. I'm sure getting a mod the scale of Morroblivion to work at all was quite an achievement but having to type in bunch of console commands to spawn NPCs or advance quest triggers when you may or not even be able to find the Ids is not a good experience
@@gokublack8342 yeah yeah, i don't think I would have time to go through that mess, 2 weeks to get 1 mod running on a steam deck is no fun either ☠️☠️ I would rather for convenience play the original oblivion at least I remember the way it was and every time you need to progress the console commands work like butter
you could actually tell in the video, for me the fog made it impossible to see the 4K textures, it's the same in starfield videos that are shown, the game would probably look lots better without as much fog.
@@Keyecomposer to a degree that's true, however if the fog texture isn't fine enough it can look really bad. i just think bethesda puts way to much fog or mist or smoke particals in their games, though that's nice for some atmosphere in some cases, but sometimes it just makes the textures of other things in the enviroment nearly impossible to see, so why does everything need to be 4k in that case as well as resolution? i'm saying it's mostly wasted when other textures of fog or mist or smoke cover the textures.
@@5226-p1e Not everything is 4k, we've made sure to go around the game is reduce the texture resolution on things it doesn't need to be 4K on, we've wised up a bit more since those days of us promising everything in 4K. As for the fog it doesn't have any texture file, thats not how the fog works in this engine.
Ah Mazoga the Orc! I used to love hunting down Black Bow Bandits in Undertow Cavern with her. It didn't hurt that the cavern was a pretty sweet cave to farm good weapons and armour on occasion, especially at higher levels. Can't wait to do it again in Skyblivion!
Its... its so beautiful... there is something so specially charming about the absolutley putrid voice acting being the same. I dont think it would be the same without all 4 of the voice actors. Amazing work bringing possibly my favorite (and for sure my childhood favorite) game into a new generation of gaming. Love it
@@pilz4566 It's just generally low quality. That's not really to say the voice actors were necessarily bad, it could have been how little direction they had, as was often with video game lines at the time. Often the voice actors would have to record lines with 0 context, and only do like 1 or 2 takes, and then move on to the next line. Not a method very conducive to immersive and realistic voice acting. From my memory (and seeing here), it's mostly just that the voices are way too "put on", like someone's trying to act, not actually embodying the character. There's a lot of more monotone delivery, or it's just not very expressive. Or it's way too expressive in an unrealistic way. Other times it might jump from one extreme to another in a jarring manner. And it didn't help that there were so few voice actors having to put on all the voices, so there was a lot of repetition and monotony in that regard. Mind you, I don't think this is a problem specific to Oblivion. I think Skyrim's voice acting isn't great either, though I do think it's better than Oblivion's. And in general, video games just tend to lack the kind of quality voice acting that you'd find in film and tv (though there are exceptions).
Because the way Bethesda recorded all of the dialogue was done alphabetically instead of a natural flow chart or similar. It's not that its terrible, it just the flow of conversation and the shift of tones of the voice can be rough. Like sounding pretty nice in one conversation and then angry in the following line or so.@@pilz4566
Damn you've done wonders to the trees and volumetric fog rendering. I don't remember Skyrim being this good looking! The clutter in the dungeon is also way too detailed! I guess I'll have to get a PC for this.
Hey that hurts the feelings of all like, 4 voice actors in Oblivion. Theres something... charming about it. Kicks the nostolgia into high gear for sure
Play Morrowind and you’ll see it wasn’t the voice actors faults for the way they sound in oblivion. It’s very clearly a lack of direction. They sound incredible in Morrowind but seems like Bethesda mustve used a lot of first takes for the lines
@@glazzy4826I imagine that may have just seemed practical at the time given the enormous number of lines recorded for Oblivion relative to Morrowind. It would have been intimidating and perhaps there was concern around time. I’m sure if they could do it again, they would do some more takes.
In at least some games, the problem is a literal complete lack of direction - VAs are given their lines and read them, sometimes without even the context of the rest of the dialog. I don't know if that was the case for Oblivion specifically, but there are certainly lines in this video where that sounds like the case (e.g. "I want to go to fisherman's rock, where's that?" is delivered as if she's reacting to a place weebum-na has just mentioned, rather than as if she's demanding directions to a place that's the whole point of the conversation). I phrased this in the present tense as if it's an ongoing problem in games, but I think it is actually a bit better these days. It used to be very common though.
I was obsessed with using graphics mods in oblivion to make everything look better. I remember this tree mod and increasing the distance you could see really blew me away and i even showed my dad…. This wouldve just stopped my heart if i couldve played oblivion like this. I really love armours youve worked on in the game, they look great and really make this feel different than skyrim.
It's safe to say that I'm most hyped for Skyblivion and Apotheosis to be released in 2025! That should hold us out long enough for ES6 to be released. Hopefully by 2026.
I was actually wondering about Apotheosis recently. I just got back into Skyrim after a full PC replacement/upgrade and a foray into Oblivion. I'm on tenterhooks for Skyblivion now.
@@clavesseptem7223 Anticipating Apotheosis back in the early days was one of the things that made me get into modded skyrim and never stopped since lol so happy to see it nearly here

im lost at words... the dungeon the biomes and flora, it was perfect. im so pumped doing oblivion funny and wacky quests in such a beautiful setting. my only wish for this mod is that it a standalone mod game like enderal, so i still could play skyrim and skyblivion.
What would be more fun is making it a part of Skyrim itself. Like a distinct worldspace to access from skyrim. Wouldn't that be fun? You xan go from Skyrim to Oblivion seamlessly! I know there's thousands of years of time between them, but i'm sure there's a way to make it logical (maybe we travel to the past through M'aiq the Liar or the Augur of Dunlain, or preferably Akatosh himself!)
@@mithras666There are mods being developed like this. Look into Beyond Skyrim. It is making other regions of 4th Era Tamriel as DLC for Skyrim. Bruma, for example, is playable right now.
Just had to comment, hat the music at the end was epic. Just perfect. I could have thought that a cover from skyrim / oblivion theme would have been bad, but you guys didn’t ruin it. Good job!!
Honestly got a bit of whiplash seeing this after all the previous projects at Creation Mod Con. Everything prior to this looked like a student project or a 3d art portfolio in the guise of a playable skyrim mod. This was the first and only mod shown that actually looked like a professional, real, FUN video game that actually has a chance of coming out ever (2025 release year, baby!). Definitely your editing style and talent plays a huge part but I know from watching streams that the level of professionalism is pervasive in the whole team, even newcomers on the less player-facing stuff like navmesh. It's a culture and it gets me very excited because it feels like one with a LOT of forward momentum -- this project is coming! The end is in sight!
Yes but the new projects are going to take much less time. The big ones have developed INSTITUTIONS, democratically collaborative groups (Beyond Skyrim *literally* has a constitution lol) that won't fail if one or two main people jump off to mod starfield or whatever, and a culture of sharing tools and resources, and support, and techniques, and voice acting has never been easier to get. I'm really confident about quite a few of these projects

I never get tired of this game. I just cannot wait for the end result.. Excellent work!!! Greetings from the Kingdom of Sweden!
Then you are in for a very good time. If you need something else to play until 2025 "Enderal: Forgotten Stories" has been made with the Skyrim Engine and is just as good as Skyrim. (even better storywise imo)
Oblivion is one of my fav games ever and a defining game of my youth. Unfortunately, I'm not much a fan of Skyrim or the Creation engine. So it's kinda hard for me to be excited about this, especially in 2025. Nonetheless, massive props to everyone who's put their time and effort into making this project a reality.

@@morrius0757I blame Todd Howard
Capitalism as a whole is about making as much money as possible, hence the rise of MTX and shitty yearly repeats of games. If management is beholden to shareholders or care more about the bottom line than quality / passion, then it invariably shows. @@morrius0757

So I literally started Skyrim for the very first time in my life just this week and now I see something as cool as this coming down the road. Good work on the people putting their soul into this passion project!
3 weeks later.
How are you liking Skyrim?
@@iconic2310 I love it so far! I've done a lot! Went to college, started a family with Mjoll and Sofie, got a vampire princess as a follower, hit lvl 60 and have beaten both Alduin and Miraak! I've also created a set of unbeatable armor with the restoration loop to celebrate my victories! There's always something new to do! I've been posting my Skyrim journey on my Reddit! This is a very small summary of what I've done so far 😂
Skyrim was my first love, then I played Witcher 3 and it blew me away and I fell in love with that world and the story.
Recommend you try it!
@@vik8306 Skyrim is one of those rare games where you can play it through 10 times and still find new things on the 11th

Witcher 3 bored the hell out of me but I need to give it a try again.
man i really appreciate what you guys are doing
I'm so happy they kept the original voices, this is going to be a walk down nostalgia lane!!
I, on the other hand, really wish they hadn't. I'd forgotten how bad some of that acting was.
@@fabianthecownip i find it hard to celebrate Mazoga's voice acting lol
I literally can wait for this perfection
Damn this looks good. Kinda wish the faces weren't default Skyrim ones or that we got zoom ins on faces like in Oblivion. But I completely understand what modeling every face in the game would mean.
The nostalgia goosebumps are real. I am blown away at the amount of love and passion poured into this project, and I can't wait to re experience this game in a whole new light!
"Jump on my sword while you can" is gonna be my new pickup line.
Please recreate the face zoom when talking to npcs. That has to be in the game as an selectable option
Seems like a simple enough mod that someone will make for skyblivion when it finally comes out in 2056

Well it's at least better than what Bethesda would have done at least especially when they left oblivion rot on legacy platforms smh
@@gokublack8342 yeah yeah, i don't think I would have time to go through that mess, 2 weeks to get 1 mod running on a steam deck is no fun either ☠️☠️

Thank you for immediately uploading this in 4K!
My pleasure!
you could actually tell in the video, for me the fog made it impossible to see the 4K textures, it's the same in starfield videos that are shown, the game would probably look lots better without as much fog.
@@5226-p1e To an extent although a swamp needs fog and the atmosphere of a regions weather is alot more important than the resolution of a texture.
@@Keyecomposer
to a degree that's true, however if the fog texture isn't fine enough it can look really bad.
i just think bethesda puts way to much fog or mist or smoke particals in their games, though that's nice for some atmosphere in some cases, but sometimes it just makes the textures of other things in the enviroment nearly impossible to see, so why does everything need to be 4k in that case as well as resolution?
i'm saying it's mostly wasted when other textures of fog or mist or smoke cover the textures.
You guys are amazing. Thank you so much for your hard work.
Love it
I do wish they'd at least redo most of the voice acting as an option for people who just want it to not be terrible though
@@peterlewis2178 how is the original voice acting terrible?
@@pilz4566Have you heard of the high elves?
Because the way Bethesda recorded all of the dialogue was done alphabetically instead of a natural flow chart or similar. It's not that its terrible, it just the flow of conversation and the shift of tones of the voice can be rough. Like sounding pretty nice in one conversation and then angry in the following line or so.@@pilz4566

It's better than Symphony of the Night! 😅
That orc knight needed a serious attitude adjustment
