Baby Lasagna's song is actually about how young people from Balkans' are forced to leave their countries due to poor job opportunities, salaries and corruption. It's awesome that you covered this.
A ovo ti je gaming kanal hahahha ..još gledam di je šredanje
Ahaha, everything is relative! My friend moved to Croatia because of the war in Ukraine. People in Croatia are more sympathetic, kinder and more positive. Croatia has much, really MUCH better schools and education for children. Plus Croatia is very beautiful.
The song is oddly similar to "party in my head" by Pain though. I think at 0:55 (both songs)
@@madiskruusmann302 omg as soon as the refrain started instantly thought of that

Why no? Nik already do it before.
Fun fact: that’s 2 acts in 2 years, that reference Rammstein as their influence, that have come 2nd but with the highest televotes in their respective years (Kaarija and Baby Lasagna)
Baby Lasagna also references Electric Callboy as an influence

Joost Klein finishes his song with a very emotional personal message. So once he goes backstage after his song, he was promised not to be filmed. The camerawoman tried to film him in this environment multiple times, for which he asked her to stop multiple times. He had enough and raised his fist (not hitting or touching the camerawoman). For this he was disqualified. Standard reaction nowadays.... He wasnt allowed to win
has it been made public yet what he did? all that i heard was he made a threatening movement towards the camera without touching anyone after asking the camerawoman multiple times to stop filming. He got disqualified abt a complaint abt this 1 single movement he made and got disqualified.
@@earthycart3535 it's kinda been made public aswell as the fact that after he made that "threatening" gesture he also profusely apologised afterwards because the camerawoman somehow managed to hurt herself with her own camera. But not to worry cause there's no doubt he's just going back next year (although i wouldn't know why you'd want to after this bullshit treatment but hey)

Love how Finland always makes it to the thumbnail🥰
🇫🇮
Finland has some of the craziest entries for the ESC. I‘m German and I can guarantee that Windows 95 man would have never made it through the first stage of choosing the contestant here.

@@benk.7194 100%! But they also have to want this..
Baby Lasagna was a guitarist in Croatian industrial/folk metal band Manntra and also co-wrote a couple of songs for German gothic/industrial metal band Mono Inc.
Manntra even tried the Eurovision national finals a few years ago, with Baby Lasagna as guitarist there indeed
Ah nice, I saw Manntra in Germany on a Festival called Rockharz. They were really good.❤
And due to his authorship on that album, got awarded as an author for the best selling album in Germany.
Oh, Manntra is nice.
Manntra is one of my favourite bands. Usually I'm not into industrial/folk metal so much. I'm a core kid through and through!
But since my mother tongue is Croatian, the texts in their earlier songs can hit close to home :)
I saw them live 3 times. These dude's are really chill and down to earth. Just like Baby Lasagna :)
Gåte definitely didn't deserve last place. The Å isn't there for show, Nick. The vocal technique the singer uses is called 'Lokk', which is what was used to call in cattle for hundreds of years.
They've been an established band in Norway for over 20 years.
Its such a good song that its almost sad it is in the same competition as the rest
I’ve honestly been listening to Gåte’s discography off the back of it and they are soooo good! Unlike most entrants into Eurovision they seem to have been around for a while, just never really topping charts.
They deserved so much better. Such a great band.
Yeah we have the same vocal technique in Sweden but we call it 'kulning'. It's honestly a really interesting technique. Btw you guys were seriously robbed
Ugh. I really wanted Gåte to do better! They have a freaking nyckelharpa! I sit and console myself with the knowledge that they didn't get dead-dead last. They were dead last... in the Grand Finale... It helps a little. Not complaining that Nemo singing like they did on a spinning top got them first, though. That was excellent.
Baby Lasgna has said Electric Callboy is a huge influence on him and that he would loove to open for them sometime in the future. But yeah, we were robbed for the second year in a row -.- f them judges
To be fair, Nemo has an amazing voice. They are able to hit such a wide spectrum of notes perfectly in their song. I would have also preferred Croatia winning but I‘m also not as pissed as last year..

I'm from the Netherlands, the whole country is angry a the EBU for the onjustful disqualification :( but Joost actually has a metal track as well haha it's called 'demonen in me lichaam', he said his brother put him on Linkin Park back in the day!
Joost luistert ook Linkin Park? Ik dacht dat die niet cooler kon zijn❤
Most Belgians are as well, Joost deserved a win or atleast a chance of doing so, well the Flemish (people of the Dutch speaking) think atleast, annoying our announcer only spoke French, not even English or Dutch...
Joost attacked someone. Not to mention his antisemitic behavior towards Eden Golan. His song was good, too bad he is an asshole
How is it "onjustful"?
He literally broke Swedish laws and is going to be tried for it.
@@asteria9963 She started by keep on following/annoying someone who specifically requested not to, and Joost didn't even touch that bitch who caused this bs by her mistake, just made sure she rly needed to leave which he can without harming anyone, it's just a power and political game, hope it gets cancelled next year
Eurovision is a perfect microcosm of democracy: the people want something, but the few rich and powerful decide what they get.

Norway's entry was incredible.
When Eurovision is supposedly not political, but even people outside of Europe aren't as delusional as the EBU 🤣
It has always been political, do people really not see that?
@@riba2233 It's very purpose is political in nature
@@riba2233 tell the EBU that, they are still living in La-la land believing it's not political 🤣
@@Mikki247 I don't agree. Ofc they won't tell it out loud but it is pretty obvious
The shouting in the chorus of the Norwegian entry is actually traditional "Cow calling" or herd calling, used throughout the times to make your cows come back to the farm after being in the fields.
Also, Gåte has been a known band in Norway for a long time, so when they swing their guitars around I think its kind of to protest the forced playback of the instruments. Kind of what Nivada did on MTV that one time.
I'm pretty sure that for the majority of their performance everyone was playing as if they were playing live for real. If you go look at video clips of other shows of their, you can see that at least the one guitarist usually goes that hard swinging his guitar around at their usual shows where they do play live. And if you really pay attention to their performance at Eurovision, you can see that they're actually playing and that the swings or that one moment that the bassist twirls his bass around him, wouldn't interfere with them actually playing the music. The one moment that what you say could be true, is where the guitarist at the end throws his guitar really high in the air while you're still hearing the riffs playing, that could indeed been a sort of protest against the forced playback.
I so fcking confusing why Gåte is on last place. What wrong with people?
Tactical voting probably, because voting costs money. A lot had it in their top 5, but you can only vote for your favourites
Also they were last place in the final, not of all entries, because they survived the semi-finals
I guess the type of people who would have voted for them, voted for Croatia instead
Maybe they were always 11th in the voting, you will never know…
@@AnNi1492K apparently they already would’ve been 20th if every position was worth some points in a different points system

A fun tidbit about Finland's performance I've been waiting to share: "Muna" means "an egg", but it's also slang for male genitalia. In their stage show, he comes out of an egg.
There was a Spanish Metal band that represented San Marino that didn't qualify for the final. They are Magara with the song 11:11. They had one of the best stagings this year.
Yeah, they got screwed over by technical issues 😢
Megara should have totally gone to the final. It was such an interesting performance.
@@gabiruman however their drummer got together with the Czech contestant, which is wholesome.
I was so bummed that they didn't make it to the final round
@@zsoltontube also funny because the Czech contestant’s song was about an ex-boyfriend causing her self-confidence to drop, and now she comes back from Eurovision with a girlfriend 😆👌
Just watched the Croatia Song and this is silly goosebumps gallore and I will be haunted by this for some time.
Why Electric Callboy doesn't go to Eurovision? Well they wanted to three years ago... they sent their song to the NDR (German broadcaster, that hosts the national finals) but the NDR literally didn't even consider them for the national final, kinda borderline ignoring them. Something in the lines of "That Song isn't radio friendly enough" (That's literally the reason why Germany sucks at the ESC, except for Isaak this year - very proud) and now EC told the NDR to f off.
Nik knows, that’s why he’s talking about it
Electric Callboy not radio friendly enough... Then my country (UK) this year sends a completely forgettable song with a bunch of guys in jockstraps simulating sex acts on eachother...
I was so hyped when I heard EC were trying to represent Germany for Eurovision as they would have been perfect. Got Voyager representing AUS last year though. Would like it if the UK actually sent something not complete arse (excluding Sam Ryder who was actually decent), as we have plenty of good music, it just never hits the radio.
Nik Nocturnal evaluating the ESC makes me an avid believer in quantum entanglement.
I'm still heartbroken about Norway ending last, it was literally my all time favorite Eurovision entry. People and juries hate the combination of folk and modern take... I hate it !
Have been watching ESC for 2 decades. Missed a few, but watched most of them with friends etc. We have a drinking game "One shot whenever a Celine Dion sings". There's no real definition of a Celine Dion, but we know when we see one.
It also gives this nice cozy feeling of being connected to the rest of europe. Also highly recommend Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga. It's filled with references and weird details :D
Nemo was instantly my favorite, 5 seconds or so into the track.
The fact that Celine isn’t even European somehow makes that more hilarious
The guitarist in Gåte is actually playing his guitar like that during live shows. Even climbing around the stage playing the guitar. Crazy dude
Justice for Joost! Make Europapa a hit by streaming it. Joost already sold out 2x one of the largest venues in the Netherlands called Afas Live (6.000 people)with his headline show. Even before Eurovision started Europapa had 40+ million streams and Friesenjung 100+ million
My top 3 in finals:
3. Norway. Reminds me Leprous so much.
2. Estonia. Ethno-hip-hop punky song with Vsauce on vocals.
1. Finland. So catchy. Sweet vocals. The country invented Linux was represented by Windows95man. This was so epic!
Käärijä and Joost will have a collab song coming out sometime, hopefully soon. It's basically about being stuck in a traffic.
the "reporter" was saying something bad about joost kleins dead parents and, THE FACT that he was being photo shooted without his consent when he was going to the green room after performance (that was the deal because he was promised that he wouldnt be bothered with cameras) (i believe he was crying after the performance since the song is dedicated to his parents) and he got disqualifed... Like the dude is lovely hella lovely, käärijä himself have met him and the guy is the most humble person ever
Yea, nobody can tell me that his "threat" (whatever it was) was unprovoked.
While I think there's more civil ways to react, there's a reason "Don't poke the bear" exists as a phrase.
Greetings from Croatia \m/

Bambie Thug was fuckin sick, song gets even better with every listen. Insane performance.
Gåte is actually a quite established band in the Norwegian folk rock/metal scene. Their discography spans a wide range of cool sounds, although I personally prefer their post-hiatus material. Definitely worth checking out for really any rock/metal fan.
Note that the "å" in the band name is not pronounced like the letter "a". If you're curious, google can provide an example :P
"å" is basically pronounced like how one would say "oh"
One day Nik will discover Günther and Cascada and the Eurodance genre, and understand that Electric Callboy is just Günther with guitar lol.
I'm so proud of our cork gem Bambie Thug.
The song from Croatia is just if Rammstein made 'Party in my head' from Pain
I'm so happy to finally see someone else saying this! I thought I was going crazy hearing that because when I posted it on twitter people were just like "no it sounds nothing alike"

YES FINALLY
I have been watching the Eurovision Song Contest since the earl y 1970s
and to be honest as I am from the punk / hardcore / post-hardcore generation
I have viewed it as an ethnographic study of a exotic tribe.
It is interesting to see what countries think will win at Eurovision Song Contest
Personally I like the audience member videos of the 3 minute performances
from the arena to compare with official TV version
and this year Baby Lasagna's was a concert like performance and the crowd responded.
BTW Baby Lasagna (Marko Purišić) was until last year the guitarist in a Croatian folk metal band
called Manntra - who had produced seven albums (?)
I did a word analysis of the song and it has a total of 433 words
made up of 59 separate unique words
of which six
"rim", "tim", "tagi", "digi" "woah" and "dim"
represented about half the total word count.
Love that you cover Eurovision. Even if it's not heavy enough for me, the shits just crazy fun and worth watching. The fun gives me a catharsis feel like metal.

Nice that you make a vid of this topic. I live in Sweden and watch it every year of course.

While Windows95man turned out to kind of fun, another Finnish candidate Cyan Kicks was pretty much straight up metalcore. Of a soft, poppy kind, but still.
I actually saw Cyan Kicks live once with another rock band that was popular because of Eurovision (national finals) and they slap WAY harder live. Studio versions were ok I guess, also they got screwed over by camera work in that national final
IMO their song just wasn't great. It sounded like a generic rock song from 2005 (the only thing about it that didn't sound dated was the breakdown).
You should check out San Marino, they didn't get to the final but were pretty badass !
