    This video was really helpful. On my high school team, I played middle for about 6 out of our 10 games. When I first became an outside, we had a tournament that Saturday and it was Thursday. Friday practice was canceled and so I only had that Thursday practice to practice the new position I was put in. So we went to the tournament with me playing outside, and we got 4th in the golf bracket out of 142 teams. And I’ve played outside for the rest of our games. Part of the reason we lost was because I was not very confident in my ability it hit from the outside, and my passes because I played middle and never really passed a lot. My club coach thinks that I should play outside after finishing our high school season with a record of 7/3, and we only lost one game with me as an outside hitter. I’m still pretty new to playing outside, and I’m really happy you made this video explaining this position more thoroughly. Thank you 😁

    Excellent video I must say. I would love to see what you see as far as what OHs can do to start playing what I call '3d chess.'
    You brush up on a few items, rolls, tip shots (we call them 'dinks'), and tooling the block* and explain the basics very well.
    I wanted to add a few items and sources, because I think a few tactics are getting out of hand and honestly, sloppy.
    My one basis for this is when I see OHs start their approachs (on the left side) about 4 feet outside of the left sideline, an outside in approach.
    I constantly see them approaching almost parallel to the net, at a sharp angle, facing a sharp angle, and proceeding to swing into a block, blocking angle and sharp angle, when there is at least two feet between the outside blockers outside hand, and the antenna/pin....and they STILL hit angle. WTF?
    Here is a video of Karch Kiraly (hopefully EVERYONE knows who he is), demonstrating a straight in approach to maximize your hitting window.
    Notice how he even brings one of the girls in closer when she was trying to start too wide. Also notice how his shoulders are much more square to the net than you usually see with younger outside hitters. This gives you the option to turn it down the line, with full power instead of that cross body, no power shot I often see. :facepalm:
    th-cam.com/video/8gj3HyMLVwk/w-d-xo.html
    *you mention tooling the block as tipping it into the block and swinging to the side....that's actually one of the several types of tooling. That specific tactic is called 'wiping'.
    If you can see a blocker's hands when you swing, you can (use physics and geometry) hit the edge of their outside hand and it will deflect perpendicularly out of bounds.

    I would like to see a video on libero explained because I don’t fully understand the rules of off and on the court all the time. I know that where they play defense can be anywhere in the back row, but I’m not really sure how to play it.

    Per my statement below regarding turning it down the line. That's another item that OHs need to be able to perform....line shots.
    You can't hit a decent line shot when you are facing the net at such a sharp angle on an approach. Most of the time, the outside blocker isn't going to take line; if they do, then know that when they set up next to the pin, they are increasing the distance that the MB has to cover to seal up that block properly, often leaving the hitter with a nice seam block through which to hit!
    You can, hit their outside hand on the edge to deflect the ball out of bounds as well, if they are taking line. However, if line is open and the set is next to the pin, take one of these shots, LOL....
    Sidenote(where defense is concerned) notice how quite a few of the line defenders in the back row are out of position, else some of these hits might have gotten dug.

      @@taylorwolfram3871 I would potentially be honored to have you as one of my oustide hitters! LOL
      Can you hit Shoot sets (they are also known as a Go)? I love those. If you can catch an outside blocker pinching in, and can set that set, you may have NO block.
      How about being able to intentionally tool the block perpendicularly? If you can see the blocker's hands when you are swinging, you are in a very good position!

      @VBMichael_D หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@taylorwolfram3871 Are you familiar with the 'wipe' tool? On a tight set, you go to tip mode at the last second, push it into the block and the second you feel it stop, wipe it to the left out of bounds off their hands. You have to keep your hand back, and 'full' swing until the last second, else they might see the tip and drop their hands early.

    • @VBMichael_D
      @VBMichael_D หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@taylorwolfram3871 This shoot right here, is about as textbook as you can get. The only thing that would've made this better is if the hitter would've painted the sideline like a sniper. This set will WRECK a close/pinched-in blocking scheme. The outside blocker better worry less about the pipe and more about something like this! LOL

    Pls do how to play libero

  • @VBMichael_D
    @VBMichael_D หลายเดือนก่อน

    When I played in the mid 90s, the libero didn't exist (and doesn't even need to exist, because we had the back row specialist WHICH STILL EXISTS, but rarely used one), and the OHs played left back.
    I can somewhat see why the libero plays the left back, but I don't agree with it. For what I see, the middle back position requires the most speed and agility to perform, which is ideal for a libero.
    Yes, the OH can run a pipe if they are middle back, but if we're using a libero, then that tells me there is a focus on defense, of which the libero should be in the middle.
    And regarding the OH being able to hit the pipe, they have the ability to slide over if need be and run their approach, from the left back position.

      You probably already know this, but just in case you haven't done this so far I really suggest that you try to do some plyometrics maybe once or twice a weak. Helped me go from a 290cm hitting height to a 310cm height. Still nowhere near enough to hit over most blocks, but better than nothing
