Nguyen is a pretty common vietnamese last name (also sometimes used as first name in this case) and the easiest way for a non-viet person to say it is like the word 'win' if you find the pronunciation hard! This is usually what my relative does as they have that name :)

I still wish they add the portraits, or at least change the angle when we talk to the NPC so we can properly see their faces instead of the back of their heads.

I love the portraits for the characters. Wish I could look at them during conversations. I agree the models have a lot more expression this time around, but I am bias because I love drawings, I love 2d artwork, and am more picky about 3d modeling. But I admit theyre more polished than the FoMT remake
I will say though... The way the characters look kinda small and far away is not exactly appealing. Seems an odd choice

A lot different than the 3D models. You cant always see their faces.
Same kind of disappointed because of it. The new Harvest Moon One World has them but doesn't look as good as this. Still best similar game coming out is Rune Factory 5 so better save money for all of them lol.
I love the portraits I very much miss them and if you are talking with them from behind you won't get to see their expressions. so it just feels less connecting if all you see is the back or side of thare head.
I get what Sharky is saying about the portraits not being necessary, but the fact that he needed to bring it up so much tells me that while not necessary, they are wanted. If the models really do have enough detail and expression, then the developers should make a pseudo portrait that's actually a window with a zoom in of the character's face as they talk. If the animation is already there, they just need to drop in another camera and code the window to show up by the dialogue.

This looks good and I'll likely buy it (I've been playing harvest moon for years)! Thanks for covering it in a video. But I do wish they had portraits, it definitely feels like it's missing something. The zoom in doesn't work for me.

OKAY. Thank you for making a game play of Story of Seasons!! It's got me ever more hyped to buy and play this game!! I are up playing Harvest Moon A Wonderful Life, and also Another Wonderful Life. This is giving me so much nostalgia. I can't WAIT!
I disagree on the not needing portraits. As someone whose eyesight is on the scale of blind those portraits helped me to see the character and their different expressions. Now I just have to squint to get a general idea of how the characters feel

Harvestmoon is my number one favorite game!!! i played all versions of it ! From gameboy, ds to playstation ~I wanna try this too sooon!!!!!!

It’s so cute! I’ve never played any of the older games so I’ll probably won’t be disappointed. Haha.
I would highly suggest Trio of Towns too on the 3ds! It's got very adorable towns, marriage candidates, and the customization of the main character is SO satisfying.
I am SO excited for this game..I have SoS Friends of Mineral Town and I'm still enjoying it..the graphics look awesome in this game..I have been a long time fan of the Harvest Moon series and the SoS games on the 3DS were some of my favorite games..it's so cool that they borrowed some of the elements of Animal Crossing,I ❤️ that game..I can't wait to get this game 😁
I was planning on getting this, but I was gonna wait for the DLC to actually be released before purchasing those, but watching this and seeing how good the game looks, I'm just gonna buy the bundle. I know I'm going to enjoy this game.

I don't understand the disappointment in all the comments. The missing portraits aren't a huge bummer for me because I feel I spent all my time staring at them and missing the actual scenes playing out. Plus, we haven't gotten much gameplay yet so it may be amazing. I'm very excited for this game.
It's been nearly 24 hours since I watched this and I have literally chuckled all day about the comment when the mayor photobombed the fox picture 😂 I love your commentary and this has been one of my favorite gameplay videos I have ever seen. Really hoping for a part 2 for this from you because this to me was a great video. Watching it for the second time and can not wait for my copy of this game because after watching this I am more excited than ever about it! ^_^

After playing almost every game in the franchise, tbh I'm really disappointed in this one. Missing the portraits and more character in the actual NPC's. It really feels like they just wanted to put out a game for the sake of putting one out, as apposed to actually working at it to make it more immersive. Feels so bad seeing one of my favorite games get so basic and one dimensional as the years progress.
EDIT: I appreciate some of the new content, tho. Implementing new stuff is never easy especially since most of the fans are long time players, so I do applaud them for at least doing that.
The disappearance of the portraits is a big no for me... :(
The lack of portraits is the whole reason that I will not be purchasing, the models are stiff and all characters seem the same without the portraits it feels like they are lacking character :/
Other people have been suggesting they put more effort into Rune Factory 5 this time with HM/SoS usual director working on that instead of this entry. I'll be saving my farming game money for that this year. It's sad when I feel like this is a massive step back from Animal Parade on Wii.
I keep hoping for an actually quality farming Sim but these look like they are pooped out and ready to sell. It's annoying.
I like that youre into the little game details as much as me..lol, i love that in games too! & Im so happy i finaly know theres even a 'zoom' function, i was trying to find that out before & Idk most people who have gameplay of this dont seem to use it, maybe they dont realize there IS one? @@eddys9311 Yeah.. good point, one might know this if they are proficient in the English language.. but some got to experience English by the dawn of internet (without formal understanding), they might be confused..
And if we involve the captcha nightmares, it's a whole new frustration to interpret what is there in captchas.
The Tahoma or Book antica are easy to differentiate between characters though..
This I l issue is with Arial, calibri and segoe UI etc fonts...
Well, my point is, this is a fault by visual design.

@@NovaRanger007 People's names should have the first letter of their name a capital letter anyway. Iori and Lori that might be why The letter I sometimes has the lines on top and bottom.

Dude I am hype for this game, like a 3d stardew valley. I know it seems a lot are upset over the portrait deal, but played a lot of My Time at Portia and the style reminds me of that. I took a day off work to have 3 days to play this haha

@@medalgearsalad1419 I did get it yes. It’s definitely not worth all that it was hyped up to be. The past games were way more enjoyable. I wouldn’t say it’s trash, but it’s not what I was expecting. They just did a bad job with the crafting in general, and not being able to really participate in the holiday events sucks, it can be still fun to play, but it could’ve been wayyy better.

I could have sworn the Mayor had a daughter in several Harvest Moon games.
Can't say I'm interested in getting this, unfortunately. I still have a half-dozen (minimum) Harvest Moon/Rune Factory games to complete. And that's not even counting farming games outside of that series.
Mainly it's the "preorder bonus" that does it for me, though. Cutting off content always rubs me the wrong way.

It looks like a mix of pokemon and animal crossing, I grew up playing harvest moon. Really cool to see how far it's come! I'm definitely buying this although it seems like it has a LOT going on, which is awesome but I get overwhelmed easy 😆

The least they could have done was given the characters mouth movement or some facial expressions if they weren't going to do portraits. It's so lifeless.
As opposed to literal lifeless 2d portraits...
The lack of portraits wouldn't be so bad really... if they zoomed in on the faces while you're talking. Instead, you get buildings and back of heads where you can't see the fancy new expressions... I've still pre-ordered it though and can't wait to play... but I'm really really really excited for rf5.

I respectfully disagree on the portrait sprites bit. It feels more to me like talking to generic tourists all the time, except during events when the game uses different camera angles.

So disappointing to see how this series hasn't evolved at all since the 3ds iterations. I'm a die hard fan of the series starting back on the SNES, but I'll be skipping this one. Its being outdone by indie games like Stardew and My Time at Portia/Sandrock. Wish they'd step it up and make these games current! Hopefully the new Rune Factory will be better.

Hold off on pre-ordering there’s been a ton of controversy surrounding the release in Japan. The developer has already promised to push some fixes but it’s a drop in the bucket compared to the issues with the game

I was so excited for this but honestly feeling really disappointed right now. It feels lazy. Empty. No portraits, choppy cutsecenes, the sound effects. ..... shops open while they're closed and no one is home? Whaaat... x) And those fading animations blurring the screen. Even shifting from one day to the next looks lazy..... I guess I'll stick with stardew and older games this time.
