"That's not to say that Sniper Elite 5 is a bad game" he said, proved the opposite for 40 minutes and asked if we want PART 2 😄 YES we absolutely need PART 2!!! That's a great video and so important for the future of the series! #MakeSniperEliteGreatAgain I couldn't agree more with the things you pointed out! To me it feels like Rebellion threw almost everything away they achieved so far and started all over again without really understanding what kind of a game they're even working on... The way i see SE5 is fully focused on Invasion for people who don't care about singleplayer, quick action for people who don't care about tactical stealth gameplay, real world location replicas even if those don't work well for a long range sniping videogame, oversimplified sniping for people who don't like ballistics, gimmicks (some cut content) and they just tried to make the series more accessible for people who don't care about Sniper Elite - because money. But what's even more worrying to me is... IT WORKED! 😐 I've read tons of comments saying "SE5 is the best game in the series"... and i'm always like "Are you shitting me?!" If this really is the way Rebellion intends to continue in the future with Sniper Elite i don't see myself supporting it for any longer, because they're about to ruin it this way. The only reason i still play SE5 from time to time is to observe what hints on more cut content i may find - and SE5's cut content is currently the only reason to get me excited for SE:Resistance to finally see it hopefully in action. Without knowing what was originally planned i probably wouldn't give a shit about Resistance. The Gamescom Demo they showed off is nothing but a bad joke and i would rather prefer to pay for more SE4 maps, seriously. The main reason i'll buy Resistance is to support SE6's development. For SE6 they have to do better... A LOT BETTER!!! They have to find ways to make it fun for beginners, motivate them to become hardcore players and offer challenges for the best of the best. The hardest difficulty in a tactical stealth sniping game should require the player to make use of everything he has learned and make it impossible to complete a map just by running around guns blazing like a moron. Just play SE3 and SE4 on the hardest difficulty to understand what i'm talking about and make it even harder! Without offering a challenge we have the typical gamepass game if you like, that you delete after completing the story once and don't buy it afterwards. Maybe invite hardcore fans to the studio, get some constructive feedback from guys who know what they're talking about. It's not too late to get Sniper Elite back on track, but Rebellion needs to focus more on the hardcore player base. 40:08 you had me laughing out loud with this 🤣🤣🤣 WTF
🤣🤣🤣Its good to see we are very much on the same page when it comes to Sniper Elite. We need some big changes for SE6. Rebellion certainly have their work cut out. I already pretty much know what to expect with SE:Resistance but SE6 had better come out swinging!
Numpties think SE5 is 'the best' because 'duhhh better graphics' and 'duhhh weapons customisation'. Most of 'em don't even know what they're claiming it's better than cos they haven't really played its predecessors!
You’re bang on, BB could do a video of 20 things SE4 does better and he’d still be able to make a follow up. SE5 is wrong on soo many levels, and for me it’s the most basic of things, the mechanics, it’s clunky and it’s shonky and inconsistent and feels rushed and ill conceived. It has no heart. I watched the trailer for Resistance and it left me cold. Completely uninterested.
Yeah, instead of SE5 they could have just added 8 new campaign missions, new character skins, 2 new Over Watch missions, and 6 new survival maps. THAT would have been MUCH better than what we got.
@@BrutalBarracuda _Let’s hope you never release a video titled’5 things SE5 does better than SE6’_ Most likely in that case then, the title will be “Why I don’t play “Sniper Elite” anymore!
Was incredibly disappointed with SE5. SE4 had amazing animations, level design, weapon systems, stealth mechanics, etc. Simply an incredibly replayable game. I never even bothered to finish SE5 to be honest. It's as if someone over at Rebellion said, "Right, how about we make everything worse this time around?" and everyone in the room applauded, or they fired all their designers and brought in 1st year university interns to do the job. I cannot imagine any other scenarios as to why SE5 turned out the way it did. If SE6 was just SE4 with a new campaign, I'd be very happy.
Wow, so much here I didn't know, but I sensed. My biggest gripe was the reticle. I used the same one for every weapon, and I knew the reticle, I knew my rifle (mosin-nagant) and I could hit a target from across the map. The ranges were wrong, however.
Sniper Elite 4, even though smaller in map size, feels much more open and free. SE5 feels like you're being chaperoned and lead through, rather than being free to do what you want.
My wish list for SE6. Bring back the S & trip mines, radioman and flare man. Make mounted weapons removable. Especially the side cars. More tanks, armored vehicles and half tracks. Make the reinforcement numbers larger. I’d love a swarm mode like in GTA where once you go loud and kick the hornets nest turning everyone red, make them all swarm your location. More enemies and lots more hidden enemy snipers. Enemy snipers should be like searching for the stone eagles. Finally. Stop disappearing weapons, bodies and destroyed vehicles
I’m a casual gamer and not a hardcore authentic mode gamer. But I get the comments and mostly agree. I think dropping the radio man and flare gun man were bad choices, they forced players to be careful and more stealthy. And I do mostly she that the levels on SE4 whilst smaller did maybe have the edge. And it is obvious in places that there are options that were dropped but some elements remain in game. But, I still enjoy SE5 as it gave me a new game work many good elements. And the mix of levels with close quarters as well as long range is good. Always room for improvement though, and it’ll be interesting to see where SE6 takes us with level design, location and dynamics. But in the meantime I’ll take SE5 Resistance as good stop gap giving me more of the same fun to de-stress with after work.
Huge agree on many of the points! Especially on map design (particularly regarding the lack of good sniping spots), lack of good sound masks, and long shot blocking.
I totally agree with you. I hope that Rebellion developers will listen to your suggestions. On your TH-cam channel you have pointed out many interesting facts about SE5 deficiencies. I'm very thankful for your great work. I started playing years ago with SE V2. Then I purchased SE3 and it was a great improvement over V2. After that SE4 came out and I have to say it was even better than I could imagine. SE4 gave me everything I had hoped for. It was an incredible sniper game. Then SE5 was announced. I was convinced that it will be much better than every previous SE game. I couldn't wait for it to be released. Me and my SE friends were expecting it to be the best SE game ever. But sadly we all were very disappointed. SE5 has some good features and it's fun to play, but we all quickly realized that it isn't what we were expecting it to be. Unfortunately. I really hope that developers will be able to listen to us and implement everything we would like to have in the new SE6 game.
SE6 needs Trip mines Footsteps can be tracked to you Be able to uncrease enemy by % When its quiet massive amounts of enemy reinforcements can arrive to keep the pace up Planes atrack forcing you inside buildings, especially if you snipe camp too long Enemy's inside buildings 2 person cooperative should have double the enemy. Enemy guard dogs Different exfiltration ending routes lead to different story routes Updates to same levels which unlock new things, tunnels, secret areas, places to climb Capture an enemy and change uniforms to get you through reinforced checkpoints, having the correct uniform to get through. Shoot down planes with big anti air guns More rooftop areas to climb, vut you need to aquire skills Skill sets slowly degrade so you have to top them up, requiring certain skills for certain missions Heavy bombers flattening areas making it harder to snipe from a height
The biggest problem facing the gaming industry (as far as I'm concerned), is that they are DEATHLY afraid to be accused of reintroducing the "same old game". Being innovative is a constant theme, and there is certainly nothing wrong with that. But what it does lead to is the disposal of a lot of wonderful and enjoyable features! I bought SE5 automatically because I assumed that it would be at least similar to 4. But I found it to be so much different that I enjoyed it a lot less and went back to 4. The other problem (which is a more obvious one) is that they are focussed on what will sell. A lot of the features you mentioned in this video are simply the game studio trying to come up with features that will appeal to a wider audience.
"designed for run and gun ... not sniping" feels like a lot of the design decisions, and that is driven by Invasion Mode and wanting to push player and invader together into SMG range. All the issues around NPC numbers, sniping sight lines, map area blocking etc is all to "balance" invader to Karl. Coming from that mindset the changes "make sense", but it worsens the solo sniping experience. I do feel SE4's wind adjustment was too much, but an option for "extra windy" under difficulty options if they want to keep SE5's lower amount.
Awesome video. I was laughing so hard! I just finished Landing Force DLC mission and there was a yellow question mark investigation from my 1st fight until the end (2 hours) Ridiculous 😅
Something I'd disagree with is rocks vs. bottles. While rocks are more useful for long-term stealth, having an unlimited supply & no matter where you are, is pretty unrealistic. Inside a house? No problem, you can just pull rocks out of another dimension inside your pocket. Throw dozens of them? Guards only get mildly suspicious. "Hans, where are all these rocks coming from? Do you think we should be concerned?" "Nein Fritz, all we have to do is to investigate where we found them. I'm sure it's just some natural phenomenon." "In the middle of a warehouse?" "Of course, it's not even remotely suspicious. Now get back to patr-... hold on, another rock. Let's go stare at where it landed for a minute." Bottles on the other hand make more sense, are plentiful enough to find, elicit more realistic responses, & can actually be used for stealth knock-outs at range without non-lethal rounds.
Your observations are on point IMO. I hope guys from Rebellion to watch this video. It's invaluable and quite accurate feedback from a hardcore fan perspective.
I'd also like to see the Invader being able to choose Authentic only invasions and also be forced to use same rules since it doesn't force no hud on the invader. Not sure if they have casket dump.
@furbycommando94 The only worse thing I can think of was this invasion I did with a cheating solo Carl. Was so good getting him anyway on the rematch. I've run into him once since doing exactly the same thing. But yeah, that's pretty annoying too. th-cam.com/video/6LYlolC6MNo/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared
I think the visibility meter in se5 is based on line of sight, not lighting if you look at the surroundings from the instances you showed , when your meter reduced there was always something near Karl (wall, bush, hay bale etc)
Thinking man's shooter... yes! That's how I play, tactical and stealthy. Unfortunately we are in an age now where most people have really short attention spans. They can't stop, observe, think and plan. They just can't. Everything has to be mindless run n' gun or mindless hack n' slash. Everyone that I have played co-op with in Sniper Elite 4 wanted to run n' gun c.o.d. style on authentic plus and repeatedly get killed. And they don't learn. THEY DON'T LEARN!!!... They just literally do the exact same run n' gun and get killed in pretty much the same location everytime and we repeatedly have to restart the mission... they'll do that for HOURS!!!! I'm like, WTF?!?!?!
I was the biggest Sniper Elite fan. I played all the previous versions over and over. I bought 5 on launch day and was so disappointed I’m not even buying the last dlc map. It has become so boring dlc is not even worth the money. They’ve lost me.
Only type of excuse regarding Bottles is in regards to using them to Knock out the enemy, sure you should and could be able to do the same with rocks but if you got unlimited amount of rocks it seems abit skewed.. I have a pet peeve with SE5 regarding the Tagging system. Why can't we "Untag"?? The amount of times I have tagged speakers or something else random and it remains tagged through out the level.. especially the speakers as even though I destroy them they still remain tagged as a constant eye sore. Beyond that, your list and points are absolutly valid... Top notch video!
Thanks! The rocks are really more just stones, just something little to create a small noise. In Sniper Elite 4 they do 1hp of damage, and yes 100 rocks will kill a soldier 🤣 I actually like that the bottles can knock out enemies with a headshot. I also absolutely agree about the tagging system, SE4 did it much better. I reckon the reason it auto tags in SE5 is to give the players a heads up during invasion.
Sniper Elite has almost become more of a Commando game as it's gone on; it's less about the sniping and more about the multitool versatility of using everything; which comes at the expense of the sniping. Technically it's not bad, but for fans of the series vs newer fans you can see a clear distinction in what they're getting out of it.
19:00 What I also do not like in SE5 is that the enemy snipers are almost always standing in the most obvious position, without any cover or camouflage. It's just boring compared to say SE V2, where you had to check every corner and look very closely to spot enemy snipers in time. Here in SE5 you can spot them imminently. And if you don't just see the soldier you will absolutely see the ridiculous glare of the scope, that is somehow stronger than spotlights
I hope the thinking man’s shooter isn’t coming to an end. I literally play a mission or 2 everyday since I’m disabled retired. I have all the cod and bf games and they’re replay ability isn’t anywhere near sniper elites
With visibility in shadows/light it seems it is not relying on the lightning itself but it is relying on a spot on the map, like it is harcoded that under these specific coordinates (X,Y) you're in shadow or not.
Can you do a video on level design throughout all the sniper elite games? It would be great to see the progress made and progress to be had. P. S great video your yet to disappoint.
I think the visibility issues with trees and whatnot is more to do with Jager invasions than trying to make run and gun. If that's an amazing spot for Carl, it's also an amazing spot for Jager. Conqueror is super annoying during invasions as the Jager just gets on top of the castle where he can see like half the map. Even if Carl sneaks up there, he has a voice line the Jager can hear and turn around and blast you while you're stuck in the ladder crawl up animation.
@@MaxSmalls You may be right and if thats the case i would much rather these trees still werent there. I would much prefer it if Invasion was more long range engagements than the close quarters that it usually ends up being. Thats why i would much prefer to play invasion on the huge open maps of SE4 than the maps of SE5.
9:56 this actually might've not been bad design, on contrary the sound propagation seemingly takes knto account the obstacles and hopefully the material fabric.
I've been playing Stalker 2 and find myself continually being extremely disappointed with many aspects of the game, particularly the lackluster gunplay and AI. I decided to go back to Sniper Elite 5 for a bit as a result. I was really impressed with things rather quickly. The immersion, the world building, the comparatively glorious AI... I was pulled in. So much so that I lost multiple hours in what was supposed to be a brief jaunt down memory lane. I was feeling incredibly enthusiastic about all the little attention to detail in the game and figured I'd check to see what similar positive thoughts that others had to share, when along you come to piss all over my cornflakes... Never had my love for a game turned so quickly to loathing. You are absolutely correct on every point. I was blinded by the complacency and willful ignorance that develops only after overindulging in the modern AAA slop scene for far too long. I have reinstalled Sniper Elite 4 along with Thief 2 and Splinter Cell. It amazes me that things that were learned and mechanics that were polished decades prior have somehow been unlearned and lost. I salute you, sir, for reawakening me. o7
I was so disappointed with se5 authentic difficulty it's extremely easier than se4/ se3. See when I played sniper elite 3 it was a real challenge took me hours to complete. It was a extreme different better sniper elite difficulty to authentic.
@@THE-LUMEN-SAGE The comment the Dev gave about the difficulty makes me feel as though they made an "Authentic" difficulty that they themselves could beat without necessarily considering the hardcore player base.
A good video as always BB, and you do point out some valid points, but for me the one thing I felt was missing more than anything else was targets! Just the utter lack of infantry/ SS/ mechanics/ Japanese etc I can run around any of the maps and I know that despite me hearing them talking/ firing/ panicking in the distance I can avoid them as they remain within their section of the map. We need the return of the radio operator AND flare gun user to spice things up for us. The trophy I have missed more than anything is the "eye for an eye" trophy of killing the enemy sniper by shooting him in the eye through the scope. A return of the S mine (bouncing betty) and the trip mine would help with playability/ creativity. How about the option of loosing the machine gun altogether to gain another slot for mines/ grenades etc? There should also be more than one armoured car/ tank in every level or introduce for the flare gunner, the choice of red flare for an artillery/ mortar stonk OR a orange flare for a Stuka dive bomber to attack or a white flare for the Fallschirmjäger to drop from the sky? There are so many things they could introduce into SE6 (or update into 5 if you downloaded the game online) Also for killing Hitler, add Goring or Himmler just to add some fun OR re-create the Operation Anthropoid mission. Hopefully SE6 will be based in/ around Yugoslavia or Norway.
It's a little thing, but very irritating - the tagging. In SE5 tagging happens automatically, if your glasses pass near something - then you can't delete the tag, for the rest of the mission. In SE4 you chose what to tag - and could delete tags as needed. And - no mention of the loss of crouch/run?
As for the locations I agree with the author too. I spent five hours of real(!) time on "Lorino dockyard" on the ‘Authentic Plus’ difficulty level. Oh, and the ‘Giovi Fiorini’ mission was a lot of fun while playing by stealth. No, in SE-5 the locations are also recreated quite decently! The monastery in ‘Spy Academy’ and the Nazi base in the mission ‘Secret Weapon’ are worth a lot! But the logic of long-range shots is not very clear. In SE-3 we looked for ‘long-range shots’ by climbing towers or finding ‘sniper positions’. In SE-4 we can look through binoculars and clearly see on the other side of the lake (mission ‘Deathstorm - 3’) soldiers strutting around the city. We can spot a sniper from his starting position on the Regilino viaduct. And on a tower nearby. Intuitively we can figure it out, right? But how can we find a long range shot at 705 metres, sitting in the field (mission "Atlantic wall") at the radar and realise that somewhere on the embankment there is a man walking along the fence who we can hit and get a gold medal for a long range shot? Well, or, for example, it is extremely difficult to hit the man on the tower from the walls of the monastery (mission ‘Academy of Spies’), unless you have a ‘Springfield’ 1903 with a certain telescopic sight. Or how to realise that somewhere in the night gloom (mission ‘Kraken Awakening’) there is an extinguished lighthouse (which in itself is very strange, isn't it?), and on top of it there is a man walking the perimeter, who also occasionally stares into the night darkness for some reason. How?! )))
SE4 still remains the better version of the franchise. Hopefully it was just because of Covid and not lazy devs. We will see when SE Resistance releases. I can’t wait!
I can. Cos, so far, there's nothing to indicate that the Resistance game will be any different than SE5. Tbh, it appears to be the same game. Maybe, minus all the bugs?
I’ve only played SE3 & SE4, both on Normal, but the stealth inconsistencies and proportion of enemies to map area in SE5 are red flags for even me. Also 40:43 WTAF is with the physics of that corpse?
Im really missing stats. Me and my friends love checking who has the most ghost kills, most kills overall, most trucks exploded etc. Also only being able to get to Level 40 in single player is crap. The grind to get from 50 to 51 in Sniper 4 was mad, but enjoyable. Then you find out you have more work to do because you are at 65 now but have a friend at 71 The replayability was great. Thats missing massivley in 5
I actually like the inconsistencies with throwing bottles. It changes it up instead of having the exact same thing every time. I agree the ai is bad though. You can run and mele enemies in some areas of each level, that wasn’t possible is SE4
Playing Fallout 4, GTAV and especially RDR2 set me up to expect day time/night time cycles and now I feel like something is mussing from a game when that natural part of the background of life isn't there. Seens like this would be a fun mechanic to build into a sniper game.. FYI the night time stars in RDR2 all form REAL constellations, and not just a random pattern.
i enjoyed se4 more than se5 because i played both with a friend (very long distance) we had no issues whatsoever with connecting and playing together in se4 but se5 on the other hand was an utter nightmare so we just gave up
I'll agree with you on the stealth and the maps and the weak A.I. I like the larger maps, but there are hardly any enemies. It makes no sense and takes away from the fun. Reinforcements is a great idea. You missed that the IA always instantly knows where you are if you alert one enemy. Doesn't make sense. What you missed was the enemies taking 5-6 bullets. That's the most frustrating thing in the game. Please, please, please make enemies die in fewer bullet hits and give is a more realistic quantity of enemies. I also want the SMG's to stay as a last resort. Keep this a thinking man's shooter.
I agree with you 100% about the difficulty in SE5, it just isn’t difficult. The only thing I could say that’s challenging would be to shoot a hostile sniper before they shoot you on authentic. They don’t usually kill you but the aim bots are too powerful, the moment there’s a line of sight, you get shot. Reticle customization was something I missed dearly, the only reticles I like are for the high magnification optic for the Springfield and Kar98 respectively, though they both leave something to be desired. The way enemies go flying or flipping end over end when shot also annoys me, I don’t like that kind of slap stick crap. I know it’s a little thing, but the sound of the bullet cams aren’t punchy enough, the *Crack* of the bullet cam in SE4 was great. As for the ballistics, I’ll need a little bit to unpack my opinion. I think the way bullet drop was handled in 4 was the way to go; range the target, zero your optic, know your holds and take the shot. I don’t like how in 5 the impact line is just sitting there on the side of your screen. The wind, on the other hand, is a bit too ‘unguided’ for me in 4 but it’s too guided in 5. In SE4 I usually turned wind off as I could never get a good feel for where my shots were going, and that’s not the ideal solution. I think the SE4 system should stay for those who want that style, but an easier system would be a good idea. What I would suggest is to implement ballistics the way the game ‘Sniper Ghost Warrior 3’ did. In that game the ranging worked the same way it does in SE4, but the windage was kind of a hybrid between SE4 and 5. The windage was correlated to the zeroing of your rifle, it was a line across mils showing for example ‘at 200m, this is where the shot would end up’. If the target was at a range between zero able distances, you’d have to split the difference yourself, just like how the zeroing puts the point of impact at the center of the reticle at that set distance and anything else you have to eye ball yourself. Anyway, great video, hopefully there won’t be a ‘5 things SE5 does better than SE6’!
That certainly sounds like an improvement over the way SE5 does it. As long as I have something to work whilst aiming then it will be a huge improvement. I just despise the game tell me exactly where to aim whilst playing on the hardest difficulty.
With the whistling, I don’t think you’re taking into account the various reasons it’s inconsistent. For example, some of the grizzled vets probably have hearing damage from battle - grenades going off nearby, artillery, etc. Whereas newer recruits would be jumpy and tuned up to react to every sound they hear. 😊
@@BrutalBarracudahaha 😅 - and I just finished the video. Agree 100% with all your points. Excellent comparison and I hadn’t realized while playing SE5 how dramatic these differences are. I too am now very concerned about this direction and future of the SE series. Would love to see a part 2 of what made previous SE’s better 👍🏼
I'm also pissed off by online players (especially in Invasion mode) who choose a higher than average difficulty level by themselves. And then if you didn't save them or didn't make it - they throw you out of the game or insult you in chat. And then necessarily die at the hands of enemies, while the joined player moving stealthily and advances on the map much faster than this ‘Rambo with a machine gun’. Instead of a game about a sniper to pass if not stealth, then at least not arranging Rambo mode.
Arya's storyline would the easiest too do and make the most sense. You wouldn't necessarily have too bring everyone back and if they did it would only have too be Sansa and Bran
Well, some of the answers you ask for will certainly be given to us by the upcoming Resistance spin-off. If it ends up being a mere SE5-bis game, then I guess the flaws of SE5 - and oh boy, are there more than just the five you pointed out...! - are here to stay, and we will be able to safely conclude that the glorious days of Sniper Elite as a SNIPING franchise are over...
better UI and button mapping. SE4 is really smooth compared to SE5. More gameplay customization. STATS!!!! I want an end off mission screen to look like a spread sheet! or something like GTA. I want to know how many steps I took durning a mission. how much time I spent in one place. crazy stuff like that. Better consistency when interacting and moving around a map. why can I not vault over somethings? why does my player get stuck on everything while crouch walking!? SE5 is clumsy. great to look at but clumsy.
A little something for you to try since Sniper Elite 5 Authentic seems so easy to you. Let's make it tougher. Play every campaign through once at each starting point. Complete all the objectives including the secondary ones. Kill every sniper. Only loud. No melee takedowns. No suppressed ammo or silencers. Everyone shot or blown up. Only Karl can't take any damage. If he needs a bandage for any reason you must restart the campaign. No saves allowed. Restart from the beginning. It took me at least two to three hundred attempts to beat Spy Academy starting at the town wall. Good luck!
about the bottles and consistency: we need 3 variations for distractions - just like we already have with ammo types and traps: 1) whistle: unlimited, 25m radius, non-throwable, always in your inventory 2) rocks: unlimited, 25m radius, throwable, always in your inventory 3) bottles: limited, 50m radius, throwable, has to be picked up or equiped in your loadout what's the point of having the whistle and the rocks/bottles in 2 separate inventory slots? if you're not clever enough to handle this, then this is not the game for you. as simple as that. OR if there will be 3 whistle variations in the future like: 1) whistle: 20m radius, yellow attention state 2) shout: 50m radius, orange attention state 3) officer's whistle: 100m radius, red attention state, has to be picked up then we would need a different 3rd distraction item like fireworks with even more increased radius. otherwise use the 2nd inventory slot for special items like the flaregun, temporary weapons or whatever.
Not that I disagree, you’re right on all fronts. Just 5 out of these 6 things I don’t care about. The one thing I agree is definitely the sniping spots. How many times did I reach a good spot only to realize that… well, I can’t actually see anyone from here.
Also, in Sniper Elite 4, when you enter grass or bushes that hide you, a certain sound is played. This does not happen in Sniper Elite 5, we are left to rely on the annoying white outline around the character.
100% Correct on every poinT💫 . Sniper Elite 4 feels fully alive, engaging, immersive, challenging and beautiful! I want my money back! Sniper Elite 5 sucks! NEVER AGAIN they've lost me. Oh and taking away fun gear like the S mine tripwires or whatever, I mean what kind of game publisher does that???
This vídeo says it all mate, in fact SE5 is a good game but it's not an improvement over the previous games, not even close in my opinion, anyway i agree with all thats been said here, thank you for this video mate, hope rebellion notices it, cheers!!
if i may ask, Barracuda, how do you see the option to go non-lethal? I find it odd, given its a sniper game and its iconic feature the klillcam, which isnt provided with the wooden bullets. Plus making 90% od the enemy sooldioers have a sympathetic bio does not really help either. what i find sniper ellite 4 was better at: 1. Vehicle destruction: the ability to shoot drivers and gunners on tanks, not to mention the killcalm for it was so satisifying, only to be completly gone in SE5. (though SE3 I dare say does it best, given you can't really shoot the engine in SE4) 2.Letters: The letters in SE4 were so smartly done, showing storires from home and such. SE5, they are only there to help find secondary objectives, plus you must them collect everytime to get the location 3. Story: SE3 and 4 had a great buildup in the main villian and in both games, he met Karl personally. SE5 introduces him right at the start, with no actual bulidup and apart from a phone call, nevre meets him directly. Made me often feel the final "mission" is kind of a joke 4. APCs/halftracks: they provided a nice chalenge you had to be careful off in SE3 and 4 but SE5, we get only trucks as troop transports. but I say the fact the motorcyle and Kübelwagen being finally used is a nice touch in SE5 5: this is is more personal preference, enemy apperence. i was really confused/surprised how most normal soldiers dont have/wear any helmet/cap, compared to the prevous games. Or enemy snipers, cool idea with the face cameo, but whats the point if they always shoot from windows or watchtowers? Plus whats the point of creating artillery spotters, if they are restricted to survial only? 6: The bayonet. while odd for a sniper, i dont mind it but the fact how it comes purely aesthetic for non lehal takedowns, is silly. Yes it allows frontal rakedowns for SS/fallschirmjäger but the non lethal takedown is unchanged.
I wonder if, when those AI gaming monitors start releasing, we can program it to read those aim assist lines and draw a connecting line on our screen. Effectively becoming a cheat online as it's built into the monitor so the game can't detect it.
Good video and I agree on most of this but I don't want the AI to be robotically predictable. I want them to have elements of random behaviour, just like people do
Rebellion forgot who is the customer, they started to flirt with those not interested in a slow sniper game. Good example is in USA marketing beer and motorcycles. If one has a solid group of fanatic customers do not turn the back to them.
Hmm i noticed you haven't done 1-Life runs on all SE5 maps so far. Just in case you still plan to do the others, here's a little extra challenge if you want. You could do different challenges on the other maps, like your Derringer only run on Rough Landing, maybe someone has sadistic ideas to torment a fish? 😏 Map: Secret Weapons 01) Authentic + Authentic HUD + No Skills 02) 1 Life 03) No Bandages / No Medkits (Sniper Instant-Kill) 04) M1A rifle only 05) No supressor 06) No melee 07) Non-lethal ammo only 08) No items except crowbars / bolt cutters 09) No soundmasked shots 10) No range adjustments (oldschool SE3)
I just want to say that I noticed and enjoyed the editing and GFX. New software? I think that each new Sniper Elite is dumbed down so it's less of a thinking strategy game and more of a brainless Call Of Duty run ' n ' gun for the impatient younger generation. I miss the pre-set things that occur when you achieve something. Do something - cut scene - a bunch of tanks or snipers turn up.
Agree with most of the points but I disagree with the AI though, unpredictability adds more challenge and fun and is more realistic, doing the same trick more than once, someone might realize there is an enemy nearby.
Me and my co-op buddy were playing this afternoon and we discussed the video and concluded that whilst all of the points are valid, if SE5 Authentic was anywhere near as hard as SE4 Authentic, and you were playing campaign with invasion switched on, you wouldn’t stand a chance. I think SE5 really is all about invasion and it’s been dumbed down to accommodate the new mode of PvP gameplay. If PvP isn’t your thing then obviously you’re going to be seriously disappointed, as I was on the first release when I was completing SE5 missions first try, Authentic, on one life. Too easy! But once I started playing invasion it took off and now I’ve got double the amount of hours that BB has! So has my co-op buddy (it’s a bit sad really…)
The visibility changes in 2:30 are working as intended because those areas are not fully covered (SE4 works the same). When you try to move through shadows casted by tree foliage your visibility will be constantly spiking up and down
Here is the question. Why is it that I persevered with SE4 to get a platinum and would prefer to load that game up as opposed to SE5. Not that SE5 is bad, it is really good. But it has not made me want to go back to it after only finishing the campaign on easy only and no online play whatsoever. Something is not right and this video seems to confirm my lack of wanting to go back to SE5
One thing i hate on se5, you do a stealth attack on soneone and 15 to 25 secs later 4 or 5 guys come running over bc they heard you do a stealth attack.
are you sure they "heard" your stealth attack? some soldiers just notice someone is missing and start searching for him. while it's not clear to the player who can notice missing soldiers, it's a great feature that should be build upon
If a group of enemies are yellow when you stealth kill one of them then yes his buddies will come and check on him. Also the spotting distance of enemies has increased since SE4 so its possible you are being seen from quite a distance away.
Also, agreed re the AI. It's rubbish in SE5. They just go back to walking around as if nothing has happened after a firefight. I think it's an issue in lots of games, I think the technology is there to make it smarter, but it's not ready in a lot of game development yet it seems, or it's too time consuming to improve it when they are rushing to get the next release out
While SE4s elevation and windage off-sets are extremely exaggerated it is possible to learn to compensate for it just takes practice. Just as an example zeroed at 200 yards and target at 236 yards center the crosshairs on the eyes and the bullet hits around the belly button. from a real life example (.308 Winchester with 175 grain match bullet at 2700 FPS) basically Federal Gold Medal Match specs, drop should be 2.5" not the 20"-22" SE4 has (roughly 10x). Heck zeroed at 100 then at 237 it would only be 8" low. But think of it, maps that are 2-5 miles square your sniping those pesky fascists in town 800 yards away, they simply see their buddy they are having a beer with fall over dead with a muted thud as your round strikes their skull. no need to rely on suppressors/silenced ammo. For SE6 I wish the maps were MUCH larger with truly long range opportunities for a game called Sniper Elite, i.e. 800-1000+ yards. These 50-200 yard shots are made much more challenging than real life simply because if they used true ballistics in game you would zero at 200 and hold dead dead for everything out to 250 yards (few shots longer than that in the game) with a max high and low of less than 3". My ideal solution as a precision shooter fan is to increase the average distances to 300-1000 yards but that would make moving around the map much more time consuming and long treks between locations with little to nothing happening, is not 'fun' for anyone but the hardcore long range fans and thus eliminate a vast number of the casual and run-N-gun players and limits sales too much.
I think Rebellion are missing out on a good game they could do. How about Karl’s (or Harry’s) ancestor as a member off Sharpe’s 95th Rifles in the Napoleonic Wars (1792 to 1815). It is almost as famous as World War Two. They already have maps of all the global areas, except maybe India. The only changes necessary would be mostly clothes and weapons. They could even have bad guy Nazis; oops I mean Prussians. For Sniper Elite purists, they could title it as the Rifle Elite series. Regards
I disagree about the aim assist in sniper elite 5. You still have to actually line it up on authentic and you don't get the stability/luxury of holding your breath
Honestly brutal barracuda I'm very concerned with the future of the series we've all come here to know and love especially with the trailer to se5 resistance it just seems too copy and paste generic from its normal non dlc counterpart..
Yes, SE5 caters to the run and gun crowd bigtime, that and invasion mode caters to the toxic gamers. So we have Se5 catering to the toxic run and gun crowd. Definitely going down the drain doing that. Personally I think they had to dumb it down due to that cross play BS, the console players playing with the PC players. I think they ruined it. Then there is Survival which is great in SE4 and sucks in SE5, again the run and gun crowd and cross play dumb down. SE4 is by far the best in the series and I doubt that will change.
I know you like invasion mode but for me who prefers solo experience it's obvious they designed the new maps with invasion mode in mind. It's a downgrade for sniping and open feeling of the maps IMO. It's not that I dislike invasion mode, I've played it a bit, but to me this game series is about sniping nazi balls from afar more than anything else.
IT WORKED! 😐 I've read tons of comments saying "SE5 is the best game in the series"... and i'm always like "Are you shitting me?!"
If this really is the way Rebellion intends to continue in the future with Sniper Elite i don't see myself supporting it for any longer, because they're about to ruin it this way.
40:08 you had me laughing out loud with this 🤣🤣🤣 WTF
u are spot on
🤣🤣🤣Its good to see we are very much on the same page when it comes to Sniper Elite.
In addition, I'd love to see great improvements to their own Asura engine.
Those are some seriously stale graphics there.
Rebellion could still be getting my money on SE4 just by releasing a new map every 3 months.

Why, SE5 isn't a bad game at all
Was incredibly disappointed with SE5.
In sniper elite 4, I would actually throw rocks to break lights. I miss that.
I really hope the devs pay attention to this channel. Great breakdown as always.
All good suggestions 👍
SE6 needs
Trip mines
Footsteps can be tracked to you
Be able to uncrease enemy by %
When its quiet massive amounts of enemy reinforcements can arrive to keep the pace up
Planes atrack forcing you inside buildings, especially if you snipe camp too long
Enemy's inside buildings
2 person cooperative should have double the enemy.
Enemy guard dogs
Different exfiltration ending routes lead to different story routes
Updates to same levels which unlock new things, tunnels, secret areas, places to climb
Capture an enemy and change uniforms to get you through reinforced checkpoints, having the correct uniform to get through.
Shoot down planes with big anti air guns
More rooftop areas to climb, vut you need to aquire skills
Skill sets slowly degrade so you have to top them up, requiring certain skills for certain missions
Heavy bombers flattening areas making it harder to snipe from a height
I hope that SE6 will REPEL the run-and-gun crowd. We don't need them.
Rebellion's profits obviously say otherwise, unfortunately.
@@Nifter71 No they don't, SE5 sold less than 4
"designed for run and gun ... not sniping" feels like a lot of the design decisions, and that is driven by Invasion Mode and wanting to push player and invader together into SMG range. All the issues around NPC numbers, sniping sight lines, map area blocking etc is all to "balance" invader to Karl. Coming from that mindset the changes "make sense", but it worsens the solo sniping experience.
I do feel SE4's wind adjustment was too much, but an option for "extra windy" under difficulty options if they want to keep SE5's lower amount.
exactly that's why i hate invasion mode. too many compromises to the singleplayer to make invasion mode even possible.
Highly entertaining as always BB. Lots of good points.
Glad you enjoyed it 👍
Awesome video. I was laughing so hard! I just finished Landing Force DLC mission and there was a yellow question mark investigation from my 1st fight until the end (2 hours)
Ridiculous 😅
Something I'd disagree with is rocks vs. bottles.
While rocks are more useful for long-term stealth, having an unlimited supply & no matter where you are, is pretty unrealistic. Inside a house? No problem, you can just pull rocks out of another dimension inside your pocket. Throw dozens of them? Guards only get mildly suspicious.
"Hans, where are all these rocks coming from? Do you think we should be concerned?"
"Nein Fritz, all we have to do is to investigate where we found them. I'm sure it's just some natural phenomenon."
"In the middle of a warehouse?"
"Of course, it's not even remotely suspicious. Now get back to patr-... hold on, another rock. Let's go stare at where it landed for a minute."
Bottles on the other hand make more sense, are plentiful enough to find, elicit more realistic responses, & can actually be used for stealth knock-outs at range without non-lethal rounds.
Not sure if they have casket dump.
this, nothing worse than loading into a cheesing duo thats killed everyone on the map on cadet camping a phone
We should most certainly be able to search for Invasions on Authentic 100%
I think the visibility meter in se5 is based on line of sight, not lighting if you look at the surroundings from the instances you showed , when your meter reduced there was always something near Karl (wall, bush, hay bale etc)
I want you to sit in rebellions meetings and tell them when they're making terrible decisions. Great video.
Excellent review!
Will definitely watch your review of SE6 before buying. Best channel out there for this game... P.s love SE4, picked up cause of you. 🙂
@BrutalBarracuda yeah, especially if it enforced all the Authentic rules on the invader as well.
9:56 this actually might've not been bad design, on contrary the sound propagation seemingly takes knto account the obstacles and hopefully the material fabric.
hey man it's finally on sale on PS5, do you think it's worth purchasing it now? It's the complete edition for $33 I played 2 and 4
great vid as usual! what is the name of the game at 31:02 ?
Call of Duty WW2
I agree, Sniper Elite 6 could and should be THE best Sniper Elite game when it comes out. I just hope Rebellion listen to players feedback.
Not played SE 5 yet. Can you bust lights/ lamps with rocks like you can in SE4 ?
I really like sniper elite 5..... but snipe elite 4 is just a much better game.
So have you done a ranked comparison of what each game does best across the whole series?
SE4 does everything best.
Thats missing massivley in 5
The only thing that keeps me coming back to 5 is the invasion mode. I hope 6 brings back some of the better parts of 4.
I second that
I actually like the inconsistencies with throwing bottles. It changes it up instead of having the exact same thing every time.
I agree the ai is bad though. You can run and mele enemies in some areas of each level, that wasn’t possible is SE4
I hate that throwing a single bottle on Authentic can cause the enemy to go in to melt down.
Nice Video, it shows the laziness of Rebellion and how they treat the player.
Keep this a thinking man's shooter.
comming from a blue beret commando sniper I completely agree 4 was a far superior game
love the dock yard mission
Please do a part 2 on this video 🙏
I just despise the game tell me exactly where to aim whilst playing on the hardest difficulty.
i like sniper E3 and 4 better than 5
With the whistling, I don’t think you’re taking into account the various reasons it’s inconsistent. For example, some of the grizzled vets probably have hearing damage from battle - grenades going off nearby, artillery, etc. Whereas newer recruits would be jumpy and tuned up to react to every sound they hear. 😊
🤣 The map is filled with deaf soldiers 🤣
They also need change damage system - head chunks missing like sniper contracts
better UI and button mapping.
I really hope they go OTT with the stats. I want stats for everything!
Good luck!
No sound masks? 🤔
@@BrutalBarracuda no sound masks.
@@WinfredJones-fk3cc No wonder it took you 300 attempts. How many times did you accidentally kill someone whilst a plane was flying over 🤣
@BrutalBarracuda a few times for sure. It was difficult for sure. At least fir me.
You should try and do it with only one bullet! And every five seconds, close your eyes for five seconds.
about the bottles and consistency: we need 3 variations for distractions - just like we already have with ammo types and traps:
1) whistle: unlimited, 25m radius, non-throwable, always in your inventory
2) rocks: unlimited, 25m radius, throwable, always in your inventory
3) bottles: limited, 50m radius, throwable, has to be picked up or equiped in your loadout
what's the point of having the whistle and the rocks/bottles in 2 separate inventory slots? if you're not clever enough to handle this, then this is not the game for you. as simple as that.
OR if there will be 3 whistle variations in the future like:
1) whistle: 20m radius, yellow attention state
2) shout: 50m radius, orange attention state
3) officer's whistle: 100m radius, red attention state, has to be picked up
then we would need a different 3rd distraction item like fireworks with even more increased radius. otherwise use the 2nd inventory slot for special items like the flaregun, temporary weapons or whatever.
The more options the better when it comes to stealth and distractions.
Not that I disagree, you’re right on all fronts. Just 5 out of these 6 things I don’t care about. The one thing I agree is definitely the sniping spots. How many times did I reach a good spot only to realize that… well, I can’t actually see anyone from here.
Yes most vantage spots on SE5 leave much to be desired 👍
Also, in Sniper Elite 4, when you enter grass or bushes that hide you, a certain sound is played. This does not happen in Sniper Elite 5, we are left to rely on the annoying white outline around the character.
An option was added to remove the white outline. Go to the advanced difficulty options then switch the HUD to Authentic.
Plus making 90% od the enemy sooldioers have a sympathetic bio does not really help either.
what i find sniper ellite 4 was better at:
1. Vehicle destruction: the ability to shoot drivers and gunners on tanks, not to mention the killcalm for it was so satisifying, only to be completly gone in SE5. (though SE3 I dare say does it best, given you can't really shoot the engine in SE4)
2.Letters: The letters in SE4 were so smartly done, showing storires from home and such. SE5, they are only there to help find secondary objectives, plus you must them collect everytime to get the location
3. Story: SE3 and 4 had a great buildup in the main villian and in both games, he met Karl personally. SE5 introduces him right at the start, with no actual bulidup and apart from a phone call, nevre meets him directly. Made me often feel the final "mission" is kind of a joke
4. APCs/halftracks: they provided a nice chalenge you had to be careful off in SE3 and 4 but SE5, we get only trucks as troop transports. but I say the fact the motorcyle and Kübelwagen being finally used is a nice touch in SE5
5: this is is more personal preference, enemy apperence. i was really confused/surprised how most normal soldiers dont have/wear any helmet/cap, compared to the prevous games.
I want them to have elements of random behaviour, just like people do
Yeah but throwing just 1 bottle on Authentic to distract a guard and all it does is alert him is dumb. Bring back the rocks.
Map: Secret Weapons
01) Authentic + Authentic HUD + No Skills
02) 1 Life
03) No Bandages / No Medkits (Sniper Instant-Kill)
04) M1A rifle only
05) No supressor
06) No melee
07) Non-lethal ammo only
08) No items except crowbars / bolt cutters
09) No soundmasked shots
10) No range adjustments (oldschool SE3)
Duckwit's channel is full of videos where he has to impose limitations on himself in order to make single player harder...
Still SE5 is on gamepass should I give it a go and invest time ?
@@ceaserknk6640 yes
Dis the actual voice do the voice in your video?
The actual Karl voice actor? Yes 👍
Glad you noticed. Yeah, using a new editor now 👍
@@BrutalBarracuda I keep trying to get away from iMovie as it's limiting but so easy to use.
To me its enemies because to me it felt like that Jagers were more of a bigger threat than how they are in SE5. But that's my opinion.
It could all be chalked up to making the game easier for kids playing on xbox.
Inconsistencies make up for like 80% of the reasons.
It's the way games are going cutting corners due to having dei having to employ people who haven't got the skill set
👍 🎥 🍿 So where do you think their focus went? Sniper Elite v2 remastered has better scope shots. 😅😂
SEV2 has still the best killcams in general if you ask me
Also, agreed re the AI. It's rubbish in SE5. They just go back to walking around as if nothing has happened after a firefight. I think it's an issue in lots of games, I think the technology is there to make it smarter, but it's not ready in a lot of game development yet it seems, or it's too time consuming to improve it when they are rushing to get the next release out
Eh up BB, agree with nearly everything as usual. SE5 is sloppy in almost every area of the game. It’s not fit to clean SE4’s boots.
I miss being able to snipe an enemy grenade. You can't do that in 5. In 4 most enemies had grenades on them
@@kbhalacy You can do it in 5, just not as many enemies carry grenades on their belt. Mainly officers, i think engineers too.
You can do it but only officers, engineers and support jägers have one
I think Rebellion are missing out on a good game they could do. How about Karl’s (or Harry’s) ancestor as a member off Sharpe’s 95th Rifles in the Napoleonic Wars (1792 to 1815). It is almost as famous as World War Two. They already have maps of all the global areas, except maybe India. The only changes necessary would be mostly clothes and weapons.
They could even have bad guy Nazis; oops I mean Prussians. For Sniper Elite purists, they could title it as the Rifle Elite series.
Regards
no... just no
I disagree about the aim assist in sniper elite 5.
Sniper Elite 5 was really disappointing after the 4. The maps are a bit larger in 5, but there are fewer areas to explore. It's like walking on rails.
SE4 does everything better than 5
I wouldn't say EVERYTHING, but yes there are many things.
Let’s hope u never release a video titled
(5 things SE3 does Better then SE5)
Yes, SE5 caters to the run and gun crowd bigtime, that and invasion mode caters to the toxic gamers. So we have Se5 catering to the toxic run and gun crowd. Definitely going down the drain doing that. Personally I think they had to dumb it down due to that cross play BS, the console players playing with the PC players. I think they ruined it. Then there is Survival which is great in SE4 and sucks in SE5, again the run and gun crowd and cross play dumb down. SE4 is by far the best in the series and I doubt that will change.
I certainly hope that will change, the thought of never getting a better SE saddens me.
@@BrutalBarracuda The developers are listening to all the wrong people for one and that is the problem.
Sniper elite 5 was trying to be splinter cell blacklist
