    As a former server, it is part of your job to let the tables know of any inconvenience they may experience. They definitely should have let Schlatt know about the surcharge if there are no plainly obvious signs or warnings in the menu. If I made this mistake, I would understand why my table was frustrated with my service. Still would have been mad about the tip, but not as mad as I would be if I had given him good service.

Some restaurants you can make closer to $50 an hour depending on food cost (tips are usually a % of the total for the food, so more expensive food means higher tips) and the area you're working in (wealthier areas tend to tip better).

    • @Otzkar
      @Otzkar 2 ปีที่แล้ว +55

      @@SonderBeats 3,10 ist still insanely low ... i understand that the usa has a big history of tipping and in my time working at dominos i too made some money from tips but getting only 3,10 bucks an hour without benefits should be illegal.

    • @SonderBeats
      @SonderBeats 2 ปีที่แล้ว +42

      @@Otzkar if for some reason you don't make enough money to average your hourly out to minimum, you get compensated for the difference. So, if I only worked an hour on a whole paycheck (hypothetical situation that would never happen) and I didn't make any tips they would bump that $3.10 up to minimum wage, which is $8.75 in my state. Still shit wages though.

    i completely agree with schlatt, there is no way that millions of years into the future if humanity is still alive and well and our technology has advanced consistently throughout, that we wouldnt try to physically save the earth from the sun even if we've moved to other planets by then, it is literally our legacy and where we were conceived as a species, of course we're gonna try preserve it at any cost imaginable

    • @srblaster951
      @srblaster951 2 ปีที่แล้ว +45

      Yeah like we still try and learn more about our history today and how we came to be. Why would that change.

    • @thewingfather4325
      @thewingfather4325 2 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      Of course we can move the earth? We literally already have ideas for technologies to move the sun. Although they aren't physically constructable yet, they're practically possible once we have the means. Look up 'Stellar Engines'

    • @JJ_436
      @JJ_436 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I think charlie summed up why I think this argument is bullshit pretty nicely. "We don't care about the planet right now, why will we care billions of years in the future?". Our life literally depends on the continued well being of the earth and we can't be arsed to do the most basic thing to avoid total ecological collapse. Why do you think people will give half of a shit billions of years in the future? That's assuming people still even exists that far in the future, and humanity haven't either gone extinct or evolved into some freaky alien looking being that exists on a higher plane of existence by then.

    • @thewingfather4325
      @thewingfather4325 2 ปีที่แล้ว +50

      @@JJ_436 You underestimate the human ability for retrospective activism. Its the same thing with monuments and wanting to save things that we SWEAR we care about now and have always cared about. But action is only taken once it's too late. It doesn't matter if earth dies, just that it remains chilling so we can think about it. Do you really think people will stop caring about the planet entirely once we leave it? Even people just discussing it superficially will care about it because they think they should. Sure, moving the planet seems like a massive stretch now. But given that point, so long as it doesnt effect the lifestyles of individuals, people would absolutely advocate for it. Its the idea behind slacktivism. As long as there is a corporation doing the action on behalf of the people who want to act but don't want to speak it will likely happen. Same thing with the rainforest being ravaged over and over for years and then suddenly because its on fire and is in the news and sensationalised everybody suddenly cares. I don't see why this would be any different.

    • @VanishedGull4
      @VanishedGull4 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      I believe both arguments are plausible. I think that, at least as of now, it's a race to the finish/roll of the dice to see if we get people in power who actively enforce sweeping changes to our infrastructure and punish companies for relying on fossil fuels before it's too late. While I agree that right now our chances are looking very grim, if we somehow turn it around then I think our descendants would want to preserve earth

    So my mom, knowing about the policy, went to the bathroom to throw it away. But when she got to the bathroom she noticed that there was a hole in the wall. So instead of putting it in the garbage, she just put it in the hole in the wall.
    We went back months later and it was still there.
