Not perhaps as unusual as one might think. English consort viols and French baroque viols had C's as an almost invariable rule, but the instrument here looks like it might be a copy after a Stainer instrument with f-holes. I myself have such an instrument by the late Peter Hütmannsberger, which I absolutely love.
Actually (having watched to the end now), what is MOST unusual about that viol is that the back does not have a break in it. The ribs are of uniform depth right up to the heel of the neck. NOT a Steiner copy then, I think.

That viola da gamba has f-shaped holes, not c-shaped. Unusual.
