    My clay comes in bags so tight it’s a real struggle to get the clay out - I’m repacking all my clay as it comes in now! Great video, thanks!

    Thank you. I've got about 400lbs of reclaim and I don't think I'll go through it for maybe 6 months. I think this will keep it workable better than the way I was doing.

      Thanks. It works well. Just make sure you use good enough plastic. Or long term use thicker plastic.

    Thank you for sharing this method! I always stored my clay also in plastic bags, but no matter how tight i made it, the clay still manages to dry out in between long time intervalls. Does this method work for months of storing the clay?

    Hey Jim, you are full of..............................................................................................................great ideas. I am a subscriber BTW. I wish you had been my art teacher in high school, but you would need to be 48 years older than you are today for that to had happened. Hope your students realize how fortunate they are having the great art studio you showed us in one of your other videos and more important than that, if you put half the enthusiasm you show in your TH-cam videos when teaching them (I'd bet you do and them some), how lucky they are having you as their teacher and mentor.

    • @CeramicJim
      @CeramicJim  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ha. You had me on edge with those ............ Thank you for such a kind compliment. My students and I are very lucky to have the space we have. I try to remind them of that. As for the enthusiasm, you’d have to ask them how I’m doing but I do my best 😄

    Love this idea! Do you write the type of clay and the date on the bag before tucking it away?

    • @CeramicJim
      @CeramicJim  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Right now I just have one clay and one batch. But I do the type when I have two. I usually use it quick enough so I don’t need to date it. Or I do the scientific poke test to make sure it’s not getting too stiff ;)

  • @SnehaKulkarniK
    @SnehaKulkarniK 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    loved your video. How long can you store using this method?

    • @CeramicJim
      @CeramicJim  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Depends on how wet the clay is and how thick the plastic. If you use big lawn and leaf bags you get so many layers and the plastic is thicker. And then your environment affect that too. My midwest basement in summer is so humid. I’ve stored it for a semester with ease but I always check on it every few weeks.

      The typical trash bag takes 10-20 years to decompose, while other plastic trash bags can take 500 to 1000 years to break down. Clay will last till the heat death of the universe. 🙂

    In this video you have a big amount of clay . What do i do if have much less? Does it keep it from drying??

    • @CeramicJim
      @CeramicJim  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It will still work. I would added a small damp paper towel around. But it’d it’s smaller you’ll get extra layers of plastic. It will work just done 👍

    Hi bro ! I liked your video very much... But can you pls tell me how to store kids coloured funclay ? I can't store it in just one bag or one box as it's coloured

    • @CeramicJim
      @CeramicJim  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it was me I would just wrap it in paper towels by color
      And put it all in the same bag.

    Will this keep my clay from drying out?

    • @CeramicJim
      @CeramicJim  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. This is what I do for clay I’m working with and taking from. If I’m storing it long term I will use a thicker bag. Even then, over time the slay will stiffen but at a much slower rate.

  • @bokie007

    Great idea
    We’ll start using it.
    One request please:
    Lose the music, it’s distracting, interferes with your narration and quite an unpleasant piece that does the opposite of wanting one to follow the point of the video.
    Thank you.
