This man has a tremendous gift in life. The hard work and passion have brought him joy. If you've ever played an instrument, the places you go in your soul are endless and freeing. For the people who have terrible stuff to say about this man's playing are sad and pretty silly. Sharing your love with the world takes balls and hard work. God bless you mister Wylde.

Hell yeah it does! I used to suck but man did it pay off to play for hours and never gave up despite haters that doubted me. Now i feel confident to play in front of anybody. I just zone in and let it flow. Zakk wylde is a beast and def one of my guitar icons.

I think he tries too hard trying to be that super fast super awesome player but really, if he slowed down and learned composition he'd be great.

Dear me, the comments on this piece are shocking to tell you the truth..Let's all calm down on pulling this guy down for improvising...Didn't anybody realise the sound was down and the mic wasn't working...this guy did what he does best and showed the versitility of a Gibson...surely one of the whole factors of him being chosen to perform and show tribute to Les Paul. Not always the Zack fan but this man can play some serious guitar. Original sound and god he can go. Not many players can play that fast and well for that long. He is definitely a master.
Used to watch this as a kid, even tho I have moved to more prog stuff like periphery, but this still hits me everytime, and the metallica stuff man, real classic
I think he played more notes in that song than I've played in my entire time with a guitar in my hands! Yes, he's put in his time to play the instrument, but from the few vids I've seen of him tonight, he plays about 8 x too many notes. Speed kills.
Here's an idea . . . Put your fingers in your ears for the notes you don't like, then take them out for the ones you do.
ill tell ya what happened here. He started off shredding his signature licks. I think he was gonna slow inot it , but the damn mic wasn't working. so he had to improvise. then that damn stage tech fumbled the damn mic. He was probably getiing pissed...and then he forgot the words for a minute. so he shredded some of those signature licks until he remembered the first line. Who hasn't forgto the words before cause they got distracted. Damn techs fucked him up and he tried to play through it like a professional. The drummer was even beginning to lag

I had honor to be owner of Gibson SG Gothic with Les Paul signature on it, what happened about 12 years ago my buddy and his wife went to see Les Paul at Iridium in New York performing and he took his Les Paul Professional with him for Les to sign it and I sent piece of cover located just above nut on headstock and couple calendars for me and another friend for Les to sign, so I still have my Gibson with legend Les Paul signature, I just feel sorry I never had time to go and see him personally, life is to demanding and short.

Sevyn Smoth hold notes out, feel the notes more, just cos the mic doesn't work doesn't mean you have to play a million notes per second. I love zakk and his playing but with this type of backing track and his playing it just doesn't work for me. I know zakk can play less shreddy and with more feel. It calmed down about 2/3 of the way through tho so I can respect that. He has an amazing voice

He had mic issiues, he played that way for a while because he was pissed. But still it is really awesome seeing him rip pentatonics.
Ben Sinner your right, there were a couple licks in there that were iffy, but he was forced to switch gears in the middle of a couple licks cause the sound guys fucked him. he found his groove again. zakk is a consumate proffesional, and if he falls out of line on stage its for a damn good reason.

Sorry, this is not any special tribute to Les Paul. As a matter of fact, Les Paul's music was just the opposite of what Zakk is doing here. Speed picking a major scale and then running it through a wah pedal heavily laced with chorus, delay, phase, distortion and jacking up the volume is not musically challenging, it's just getting your fingers and hands to move fast enough. Sure, Zakk is the Master of this stuff, but it isn't the same thing as Les Paul's style. I think David Gilmour is better suited to give a tribute to Les. Pick your notes carefully, play them as cleanly and make the most out of them. A little reverb and a touch of delay to provide some depth and texture, and let your fingers do the talkin'. Zakk is just doing parlor tricks here. I love Zakk, and I do think he has added a great deal to metal and the guitar. Just telling you how it is from my point of view.

zakk in his early stages was great. but the manly thing overwealmed him. he tries to be so manly in everthing he does. his look, his playing, muscles, speech and so on. his voice over the years got deeper his muscles bigger and his beard longer... and its also reflecting in his playing just fast riff raff... zikk zakk... anyway i like him

As much as I admire Zakk, I do not see why anyone would put EMGs on a Custom LP. You can put them on a broom and the sound wouldn't be different.

I had the chance to see Les many times at both the old and new Iridium locations. Had him sign my Les Paul Custom. He would have been gracious about anyone honoring him of course.

I listen to various music, and Zakk is a multi-talented musician, and artist whom has created some masterpieces that has had me think of what I've had to endure with loss of loved ones that instilled some of my strength to be able to endure through his music. So much pain in his voice in songs, and even if you heard him for the first time, you can tell he's a fuck'n beast and legend regardless!!!

Terrible tone in the context of the song, but also his repetetive pentatonic shredding gets old really fast and there's no variety or subtletly to be found here. Don't mean to offend any Wylde fans, but there was just nothing musical about this.

You clearly didn't watch it all, there was plenty of bluesy licks, and tones of musically TONAL mastery playing. You just let your personal view of the man during the first minute, cloud your judgement and ended the video prematurely.
Damien Beckham I have no personal views about him, I judged him solely by his playing which is fair. Even if there were bluesy licks in there, majority of it still was just technical shredding, which doesn't sound good in the context of a song like this, regardless of how good of a player you are. Despite what you might think, I did watch the video all the way through and I didn't enjoy it. Simple as that.
