  • A few highlights of the Timberline Trail in Taylor Park, Colorado. This was the first singletrack I'd even ridden after I stumbled upon it years ago with a rented enduro. This day I rode the entire 50 mile trail on my XR650L consisting of tight a rocky singletrack within high elevation forest (elevations from 9,000 to 12,500 feet).

Hahaha!! Wow you must be young with huge balls. I’m 51 yrs old now & I wouldn’t dare take my XR650L out like that without a riding buddy or two. I know how heavy that bike is to pick up. Great video!

Great video. This is the kind of video that I look for in relation to the XR650L. I love those kinds of trails however most the the trails I ride are in the high desert. While the bike is heavy and big, I find it to be incredibly capable going through rocky sections. I am an older rider at 70 so I found it really helpful to lower the bike by an inch or so even though I am nearly 6 tall. I love the old school XRL.

Respect for your handling of this top heavy bike in such difficult terrain. I ride the same model, and I find it a bit heavy in such conditions. But it will get you trough.

I just got my '23 XR650L Yesterday. Was super excited to watch your video, and I have a couple questions...
    What exhaust do you run?
Have you done Dave's Mod, and/or what Jetting are you running?
I live in Idaho, about 4750 feet, and my riding goes from ~2500 on the low end to ~10000 at the VERY tippy top... I generally am 4000-6000 mainly.

No riding partner? That is a heavy bike on a technical trail. Huge torque though. Hardly have to go above idle to chug over those rocks. I need to go up and ride that before snow ❄️

This looks like so much fun! The only concern I would have doing this with my own XR650L is worrying about carb tuning- I doubt I could leave my 2000 ft elevation home and just park at 9k feet and ride even higher without significant issues. I really love the bike but wonder if a fuel injected bike might be a more versatile option.

Get a lectron carburetor it's a jetless carburetor and automatically adjust for elevation.

I own a 2016 XR650L & live here in Fresno at around 300’-400’ elevation I ride up to Huntington Lake 7200’ many times. Also been on a 400 mile ride over Sanora pass 9100’ down into Nevada & back up and over in California. I’ve never have had to adjust or alter anything on that indestructible beast. It’s all factory still. It has had some lean popping but I didn’t notice any power loss.
