I had this very same car. I changed out the slant 6 and put a v8 360 bored over .30 with a 650cfm carburetor and a bunch of over goodies attached to a 727transmission and a posi w 373gears. I used 102 octane fuel. MAN I WAS ROLLN!
Call it what you want, I owned one, had a 318 with 340 heads, put duel exhaust on her, bumped up the timing and drove the crap outta it. Have many great memories of those years. Personally like that body style, but they were flawed.
I never, never ever thought I would ever see one of these sold as a "classic" lol. I had an old aspen that was 10 years old when I bought it in 87 and it was a POS when i first got it. Today, to buy a 10 year old car you are not taking much of a chance, but back then you really had to look to find a good beater. The aspen wasn't too bad a car AFTER you stripped off all the pollution crap, the A/C and the horrible lean burn system and Installed a 360 Ci engine (with a decent ignition system and 4 BBl carb). Only problem after that....stopping reliably and maybe sharp corners.
My first car was a 1979 Dodge Aspen and I bought it in 1993 it had a slant 6 in the thing and ran great I never had any issues with it at all except I blew the muffler off it one day doing a burnout but other then that the floor had a few small holes in the floor that I patched before it passed safety check
Liked these from the time they were new. NOW, to find one this nice is almost impossible. Just think, a built 360 and a manual transmission. Add some decent brakes and go hunting.
I have a 1979 Asper R/T that is all original it has the police 360 with automatic with a 3.55 posi it even has the same hood scope on the car the interio is great but the floor had a couple holes and the bottom quarter panel was looking like swiss cheese but other then that a solid car
At best, it's an Aspen R/T and not a RR R/T. The rear spoiler is correct and so is the hood scoop but the chin spoiler is fr the Super Coupe and is different due to the additional stick on fender flares; which are missing if they were trying to build a clone. The other give away is the gauge package or lack of one is a better term. As it sits, I hope no one paid more than $3500 for it; that is if it's a rust/bondo free original and has a 360 in it.
Wheels are Chrysler HD utility (Cabs / Cops) 15 x 7s. Heavy, but cool on any Mopar.Bumps on center ring to hold dog dish / poverty caps. LOOKING for a set of factory slots....without center ring bumps for caps. They are 15 x 8s.
Teh 15x8 versions are from the Super Coupe, but what is not common info is that there also was a 15x7 version of the SuperCoupe wheel, used on the Dodge Magnum GT.
Just curious, those tail lights, are they original to that car? They seem to be from a Volare with the orange turn signal, my 1980 Aspen I owned many years ago had solid red tail lights with the white reverse lense. My 78 volare parts car had the orange turn signals like this one has. Cheers!
i said to myself they ough to transplant some other cars tail lights into this thing...and maybe they did and its still ugly hahah maybe some duster or charger tail lights anything but 1978 tail lights!!!
this is what passes for a "classic" now? a 78 dodge aspen with a cracked dash and after market steering wheel from kmart? when I started driving, these were the kind of cars that the children of people on disability bought. it was embarrassing. even the "buy here pay here" lots wouldn't touch these. this has to be a joke?
They show a few seconds of the motor then pan away and never show it. This is a very nice Joke really guys is it that bad you can't show the motor. The car is junk. But thanks for showing us junk something for a good laugh keep them coming Gate from Hell.
My parents owned one of these. Briefly. The thing i remember the most is not the crappy interior or wheezing, vapor-locking, leave-you-stranded-at-a-Sheetz engine. No, the thing i remember is, is the copious amounts of rust that chunk of garbage accumulated on the rear quarter panel after one winter. By the way, did anyone else notice the dash cracks on the passenger side? Who the hell would buy this car? This is not a classic, this is the car that almost killed Chrysler and deserves to be crushed and forgotten.
Yes it's a shitbox emphasis on box, some love ugly ducklings that could blossom into something tough one day...maybe...maybe not and it remains in an oddball sate of boxey glory haha ...i think this ones needs some styling help and transplanted taillights...id lose the hood since its not fooling anyone...we know its not a R/T Mopar street/strip King. It may rise to Queen of the Strip...Mall haha! ...the Boxey Aesthetic is a sentimental thing; at best. I was raised in the 1980s so the late 70s cars that didn't rust into oblivion by 1985 I remember.
FIVE_O_FEVER come on a ford guy is hardly credible,Ford has never had any performance since the thunderbolt, and was only built for dragracing public couldn't buy it
Not sure what you're talking about. The exterior looks factory. The louvers, spoiler, scoop were all factory. Dodge offered this paint scheme also. Wheel centers are not factory. Interior looks original except for the steering wheel. Engine bay has the usual air cleaner and a few other things obviously. I guess this is what happens when you only know Ford and are clueless about other makes of cars. And yes, I realize this comment is 3 years old!
one of the nicest most unappreciated bodystyles of the mighty mopars, they are still affordable and take all the great motors that are in the duster, dart, road runner etc and make great hot rods.
I always liked the top-shelf SE version when this series came out.

I had one of these the Richard Petty edition with the number 43 on the sides and top ! Fun car wished I have kept it

By 78 the F bodys were good relioable cars and with the 360 one of the fastest cars of its day.

Hahaha the vapor-locking was just inexcusable! What a piece of shit! It's so bad it's good. I kinda want one like the one on Regular car Reviews

Stroke the motor and get some lift on that cam and 318 turned into 350 hp no problem
