My full liner burple g10 S110V Native Five is absolutely incredible. With really hard use for over eight months, did not need one sharpening just good stropping every few days on a diamond paste on leather. Incredible knife. I sharpened it at 13 degrees using Venev diamond stones on a modified Rixiu fixed edge sharpener. From 240 to 800 with final strop on one micron and then .5 micron. Touch up with one application of 3 micron on leather that is still working great over 8 months later. The other steel I have that acts the same is Rex 45 in a micarta scaled Native 5.
"... mother's numbers" 😂😂😂. It's funniest when it's matter of factly deadpanned just like that. Thank you for always being entertaining and informative. Blessings to you. I received the slip, and it's beautiful. Thank you!
Great review sis. Your probably right about how they’d perform if the edges where identical. That said I bet the 110V does not have as high of an HRC since it’s from Spyderco while the 125V is from Levi.
I have the Mannix 2 in S110V. I have not sharpened yet, but am happy to know what grit to use when the time comes. Additionally, nice to hear once again that the "chippyness" of S110V was unfounded for normal use. I am interested as to the angle for sharpening you would recommend for the Mannix 2 in S110V.
At high hardness the burr breaks more easily and quickly than at softer hardness. Sharpening a soft steel is a pain in the butt, because the burr don't com off, the burr flips from side to side.
Great content as always Erica. Once I develop my freehand sharpening skills I may try some 110v and other super steels. I’m still wrapping my head around sharpening K390. Have a great day!
I will say- the thinner the better. For sharpening. It was effortless sharpening Levi’s Stinger. I highly suggest getting a nice slicey blade to play with initially!
Good to see you again Ms Erica. Hope your getting settled in somewhere that works for you. I'll keep praying for you 🙏. Enjoy your evening and your day tomorrow. See ya.🇺🇲🔥🌲🔪
Love it when you do videos like this. I 1:21 bow to the master. I’ve asked you a question kind of like this before, but I have never bought a knife from a custom maker. I want to get one with about an 8 inch blade Micarta handle spearpoint And crew wear steel. Tell me what maker to use oh great one
Question, did you put a little sharpening choil on the Spyderco? My Paramilitary 2 doesn't have one. Good video, a couple of steels I haven't tried yet. On my list though, some day... Thanks for the review.
Spyderco puts what I call a backstop on their blades instead of a sharpening choil, things get hung up in a sharpening choil, when you're getting after cardboard with a Spyderco the material can slide all the way to the back, and stay in the cut. I feel that putting a sharpening choil in a Spyderco is a mistake if you cut a lot of cardboard.
When you mentioned that it performed better at 325 grit, did you sharpen at 325 and progress up in grit, or did you keep it at 325? In my sharpening experience, I have always progressed to 1200 grit or higher. Maybe I'll experiment with finishing sharpening at different grit levels and see how I like it. Also, it's an exciting video topic. I've hesitated to use my s110v Spyderco due to the rumors about chipping. Watching your video makes me feel more comfortable using s110v in the future.
Of course they aren’t difficult for you to sharpen, lil homie. You are Erica, mistress of blades and steel!! I do not like toothy…….. And your mom loves the gunny juice. Don’t cut me. I love that little Northern knife. Fun and informative video. I just saw the big brother to that knife. Very cool.
Hi Erika. I looked up the toughness of 1095 steel on that knife nerds site, if I understand correctly, 1095 has a 4.5 on a scale of 10. In your opinion, is K390 steel tougher than 1095? I can't seem to find it there. Very probably due lack of my English vocab.

Yes I did! It makes it easier to sharpen the knife properly, and it doesn’t get snagged since it’s so tiny!
