- This worked so well I had to change the plan. Wheetbix give a serious amount of flavor to a distilled spirit and the milk cocktail . . . .liqour . . . .whatever you want to call it was downright awesome!

I often include affiliate links in my videos and descriptions. This will not change the price for you at all, but the seller will give me a small kickback. Cool eh?
Scottish guy here, Weetabix is delicious but if it dries on anything you need a pneumatic drill to remove it. I once used it as a filler for a cracked door frame, and the wood rotted LOOOOONNGG before the Weetabix did.
In the UK we don't break them apart and pour the milk over two wheetabix. sometimes warmed up.
South African here, grew up with weetbix as well, this looks cool to do :)
Hi im from namibia an still eat them love it
I lived in South Africa for a few years as an adult and had wheatbix for the first time there. Amazing breakfast meal! I always ate it really quickly to avoid the porridge effect, but also because it was delicious. I even like the soggy bits at the end.
In the US we have 'shredded wheat'. It was a biscuit of wheat shreds that turned immediately to mush, no matter how much (or little) milk you added.
Not the same, shredded wheat has none of the malt that this has. Here in Canada (and probably in the USA) we have weetabix.
@@marcusaetius9309 Walmart has Weetabix so yes you are correct
Shredded wheat there is no line: it’s either stabbing your mouth or oatmeal.
Ahhh, Shredded Wheat!
Frosted Mini Wheat's dad.
Pass the sugar bowl.
The sweet wheat mush of my childhood.
Shredded Wheat is fine, especially with a bit of sugar on top. Hell, I'd eat a bowl right now.
It's a household staple here in South Africa too ❤
1991 and yes . That an fluffs was a staple of my nova scotian breakfist in the winter
Love having Erin in the videos to add some American flair to the Kiwi production!
This is cool! I just started a wheat mash… 5# malted red wheat, and 5# frosted shredded wheat. I couldn’t find any unfrosted at the time so I rolled with it. Wanted some smoke, so I threw the shredded wheat on the smoker with a fruitwood blend. Used soy sauce in my spray bottle for initial moisture, and respirated frequently along with keeping a pan of water in too. Did low and slow in batches. Gotta say, the soy sauce, frosting, and smoke made for an amazeballs snack alone. Can’t wait to try it all done!!
Brekky brew at last to start the day ! Nice work Jess you got us drinking before 8am 😂 .. love to see you do one around the ANZAC biscuits
This is the potential of a good series to dive into. Cereals of the world and then seeing how much carries over into the distillate. All I'm thinking now is how to get my hands on kilos and kilos of frosties!?!?
Weetibix It's in Canada as well.
Didn't Bobby Orr used to shill for Weetabix...?
11:35 wow, her face lights up, I can sense the nostalgia :)
I bet that's really freaking awesome with a 5.2% Jersey milk. You should be able to pasteurise this if you have a sous vide. 72C for 6 hours (that's how Cocio is done, and that has nothing but milk, sugar and cocoa in it, yet have an unrefrigerated shelf life of 12 months) in a hysterically clean and air tight bottle. With a final ABV of around 20% and thorough pasteurisation this should have an absurd unopened shelf life, so long as it is kept out of sunlight.
I had wheatabix growing up in flotida. They still sell it in grocery stores here.
we have wheetabix in the us at certain stores. my grandparents from england always had them. i never crushed them up. 2 bricks in the bowl then pour milk over the top, add enough sugar to coat the top of the bricks.
that sounds so good in a sweetened milk liquor. could use sweetened condensed milk or a dark brown sugar syrup for some molasis like notes to go with the wheat.
Maybe turn this into a sipping cream style liquor? Great video as always, cheers!
And I should watched the whole video before commenting lol
Grew up in South Africa! Weetbix with ice cold milk keep them crunchy.
Hello Jess love the idea we enjoy weet-bix in south africa as well keep up the good work
I live by the Weetabix factory, near ketering uk. Its like a mini town the place is so big. But .. i often do deliveries there and have seen just how much of the broken ones the put straight in the bin. I think it gets recycled into animal feed, but the amount of birds that have realised there is a good free meal in the bins is crazy. The first beer i tried making was a Weetabix and banana. It was amazing! 😊
But you can't get the smell off your gear for ages
My friend always put a chunk of butter, brown sugar, milk, then boiling water over five wheet-bix
South Africa too
In OZ, I grew up with Wheat-bix, aka Wheat-bricks. My best mate grew up with the market contender Vita-brits, aka Vita Bricks.
Back when I was brewing and distilling, I used to use the Coopers Brown Ale kit with extra malt, I forget what hops, and a lot of crushed up Wheat Bricks. It made a very meaty, hearty ale that was great for a cold Sunday when I was cooking the roast. I'd throw a bit in the gravy too which worked out great for lamb, but was too much for a chook roast.
hadd it in norway aswell
I live in the UK. Yes, they were a very big part of my childhood.
We still have them in South Africa
We have wheat brick style cereal in the US as well.
We also have Weatbix in South Africa. Cool vid. Thank you.
growing up in the south of usa.. we survied mostly on grits and oatmeal, didnt realy have cold cereal much.
I am an Ozzy boy so it was Weetbix. I made a whisky with Weetbix and Nutragrain, but not as much "grain" as your recipe, it went down well.
I love the videos with Erin in them
Thanks
Your welcome and appreciated it!
Fascinating idea!
Here in South Africa we have Weet-bix spelled exactly the same, Bokomo is the mother company here😀😀
Wondering if you can do an experiment with the reflux air still pro. I e mailed still spirits and asked if you can put spiral prismatic packing in it. They said yes! May need saddles in the bottom so the spirals can’t fall through the hole in the bottom. I wonder how this will change the outcome/abv?
We have Wheatabix, here in Canada
I know you distilled mead at one point, but have you tried distilling a Kveik mead?
We do have Weetabix in the USA
Hai Jessie. Love ur videos!! I've learned so much from you. I am currently doing my first fermentation of ujssm (very first run of alcohol ever) and things seems to be working great, All thanks to your videos!
I'm so excited to finally start chasing the craft!
I grew up in Australia in the Seventies. Weetbix were certainly available, but I preferred a rival product, Vitabrits, which were very like Weetbix but for having a bit of malt in with the wheat. Or maybe extract of malt? Anyway, weetbix but malty and a bit sweeter. I ate four, without sugar.
How long is the shelf life of the mixed liqueur (milk & syrup)? Must store in refrigerator?
I've only just started distilling, but reckoned they'd be legend!
We had Weetabix in Canada in the 70s. Loved them!
Still have 'em in BC,eh?
how often do you check on the 100k barrel? noticing more in this video than others that there looks to be leaking onto the cradle.
love your work.
this makes a lot of sense. Great concept and great execution despite the plan not going according to itself
should be using the same sampling glasses, pretty sure you did one on that!
we had them in canada too ... tho not sure if we still do
USA, grew up eating all of the cereal, and eggo waffles. The wheat bix reminds me of the nature valley oat bars we get here… maybe some interesting stuff to brew with
Well, this was delightful. Thank you, and keep up the good work!
I was a kid in the 80's and 90's, and we had Weetabix (the same box as UK, it's still available but I haven't had it in years). I had it mainly as a breakfast on summer trips because the blocks travel well and are easy to store on a ship. The smell always brings up a strong nostalgia, I might have to buy some to try soon.
Hardtack cereal.
We had shredded wheat and frosted wheat here in Canada. I think there was wheetabix once in a while but wasn't as popular! But frosted mini wheats was my jam!!
in the uk we had weetabix, during winter we had it with hot milk and runny honey, during summer we had it with ice cold milk and a sprinkling of sugar, trick was to eat it while its crunchy, or it turned into soggy weetabix poridge.
I can get it here in the northeast of the states. I am going to have to give this a try. This one looks good
In Canada, at least on the west coast we have Weetabix.
South Africa we had Weetabix
I think they sold Weetabix in some stores in the U.S. back in the 60s. I seem to remember shopping with my grandmother and seeing it on the shelves. I also think my grandmother ate these, having been from England. It's weird. I haven't thought of them since I was a kid and saw your photos of the box, and it all came back to me.
You guys don't have Shredded Wheat down there? What about Puffed Wheat?
Now for an expansion bring cream into the drink equation a la Baileys with perhaps chocolate rather than maple.
South Africa, we still have but a similar box,
I won’t want to use it for booze, rather eat it, I like maize booze more,
Thanks for asking
Ciao ciao
In Finland they we're Weetabix, dunno are they anymore, stopped eating when found maggots from one..
Weet-bix Liqueur hmmmmmm the memroys that would bring back definitely would love to try some
As a fellow Kiwi, I grew up on weetbix and when we were fortunate enough to have a can of condensed milk in the pantry about half a can would end up on about 6 weetbix and then add some full-cream (silver top) milk on top, maybe this would be a good addition.... might have to do a Weetbix run myself. Nice Job, love your videos.
👍why don't you rack off the liquid & rinse a bit before fermenting instead leaving the whole mix in?
Grew up on weet bix and Nutrigrain. But
For a special treat when my pop visited we were allowed to have for breaky: two weet bix (not crushed) little bit of milk. Then.. then.. pouring cream and raw sugar sprinkled over the cream. 😱🤤
Soo good!
Amazing, if you wanted the milk texture and sweetness, you could always try adding just the lactose into the finished product, or possibly less in the mash
Might be a little outside your wheelhouse, but putting it in an ice cream sounds like it could be very interesting
Growing up in Australia of course Weetbix was the preferred breakfast and even as an after school snack with butter on top and even yes Vegemite.
I would love to see you make a ''butterscotch'' someday!
Weetbixwere made by Sanatarium Mooringe Ave in Adelaide , how I know! I use to buy the broken weetbix for dog food !
like a weet-bix Irish cream almost? As a Canadian I am not really familiar with the taste, but the way you describe the sweetness makes think in that direction more than other milk based drinks I'm familiar with
Shredded or Frosted Wheats with Cinnamon toast crunch!!!
We have Weetabix (official Nestlé product) and many copy's, the flakes in the Weetabix were smaller so didn't break them up some of the cheaper copies had larger like yours.
We also have the shreddies (crisscrossed wheat strands) Shredded wheats which were huge nests of strands that you tried to eat at least 2 per serving 3 and you were awesome and 4 you were a god!
At Easter time in primary school we break shredded wheat up, mix in melted chocolate, put them in to fairy cake cases and put glazed chocolate eggs in the middle to make Easter nests.
South Africa you still get Weet Bix.
This sounds like something I will try. I live not far from a 200 year old brewery and sometimes the smell permeating the town reminds me of weetabix, thanks for all the great videos👍
Grape nuts?
In canada we have shredded wheats
Could you tell us what the original gravity was please?
In the US we have weet bix, but the thing that's probably more common is shredded wheat, which are just giant mostly tasteless wheat squares you can break up. More or less the same thing. In the same way, lots of people add sugar and there are brands that include sugar already, like frosted wheat. I was never a fan. I much preferred Total or Raisin Bran.
Hey Jesse. I'm in Cambridge and was brought up on Weetbix. I'm 55 now and I still eat them most days. Porridge in the winter. Booze from Porridge? Porridge and sultanas..... Where are you based ?
Hi Jess, that looked good again. but your blend was on but your mash recopy lacked? love your work
I grew up in Australia in the 1980's and of course I had Weetbix for my breakfast every morning, smeared with a generous amount of Vegemite before riding my kangaroo to school.
Anyway I have been enjoying your videos and am looking forward to getting my own still set up. I have had good results brewing cider from supermarket apple juice and I reckon I could distill it into some pretty tasty Applejack. I have experimented with freeze distillation with Ok results, but it's a slow and tedious process.
Love your work keep it up.
I call doubt. How could this be an authentic story without you fighting gigantic snakes and spider on the way to school on your kangaroo?
Have you ever distilled spirits fermented from breadfruit (i think known as ulu in pacific Islands)? There's a producer here is Puerto Rico that makes Vodka with breadfruit but I always wondered if there was something more interesting that could be done with it. When you let the fruit mature fully it converts a lot of the starches into sugars on it's own but ideally they're used before turning sweet...
Also back in Finland where I grew up we did indeed have weetabix.
I remember Weetbix for breaky as a child. Also, making a dry snack out of putting butter and vegemite on them.
From South Africa. I still eat Weet-Bix. Made my Bokomo here, but it is very similar/the same as NZ and Auz Weet-Bix from what I have heard.
Canada has Weetabix. Also ate them in the ‘90s. Shredded Wheat seemed to be more popular though.
Hey Jesse, love the channel. Do you have the recipe for a 23l Fermenter? Thanks
Hmmm I need to try frosted mini wheats…
For a long time i've been doing weetbix and rolled oats sour mash and highly recomend!
We have them in Sweden as well! (Weetabix) Thanks for all the superb content!
wheetabix was one of my favorite cereals growing up in the late 80s / early 90s in NY. so it was commonly available from at least the mid 80s in the US.
Mixed with banana brandy and honey
I'm going to have to try Fruit loops Gin.
Australia, New Zealand and South Africa have/had Weetbix (instead of Weetabix).
Same I think in Canada......but what I recall most from childhood was the big rectangular Shredded Wheat....sort of like mini wheat straws formed intoa bundle.
I love Erin, definately the better half 🙂
Could do a homage to breakfast cereals using cornflakes, wheatabix, porridge oats and rice krispies etc?
Plenty grains there anyway lol
I can't believe you actually said too much flavor. :) Great vid.
I would of done what you did with the milk but also aged a second small batch to see where it takes it just out of curiosity
I’m thinking that, if it tastes better with milk. Why not use Irish cream? That way it won’t go bad as quickly, if at all.
Growing up in Aus it was Weet-bix all the way in the 80s, having moved to the UK recently the shock of the difference in Weetabix still has me wondering if it's the weather and lifestyle or just Weet-bix itself these Brits move to Aus/Nz for.. no comparison to these British instant porridge blocks..
