    By the corner of the eye was known as “passionate”;
    Middle of the cheek was called “gallant”;
    On the nose was known as l’impudent or l’efrontée;
    On the laughter lines (nasolabial fold) were called l’enjouée (“playful”);
    By the corner of the lips was called a “coquette” and was considered flirtatious;
    On the temple was an “assassin” and considered to be more dignified;
    On the centre of the forehead was called “majestic”;

    That one picture you showed (the woman is green dress) is not of Marie Antoinette but is actually of Madame de Pompadour, a famous French mistress of Louis XV. Relatively enough, she was the one who introduced heavy application of rouge or blush on the face to the royal fashion and even a bright shade of pink was dedicated to her named "Pompadour pink". Other than that, I love your video! :)

      +Alexandra Bourgault they most surely didnt wear any. Remember extreme modestyand purity were really important. They were truly religious nuts (the most distinctive feature of the period) Plus anything reotely flirty or sensual would be frown upon
      it's also a period characterised by its static state. On those times nothing was investigated or discovered (and they hid the books with previous scietific achievements so) it's difficult to believe they would have investigated substances to fabricate make up

      Makeup in the 1910s was subtle and mainly used to emphasize natural features, but I think that red lipstick had become a lot more used between 1911 and 1915, before exploding at the end of the decade.

    The mole chart, also has the meaning in English but not all the meanings were translated correctly what I understand from the left to the right: l'affrontata =The fierce one, la capricciosa= the capricious one, la maestrosa=the majestic, la passionata= the passionate one, la galante= the romantic one, la baciatrice= the kiisser. So you decided to be the romantic and the capricious one!!!

      +Michelle Amezquita People didn't really wear makeup for most of the 19th century, just some creams and oils, to keep skin healthy.
      Basically everyone wore makeup in the 18th century, no one in the 19th and then only women in the 20th.

    • @Hannah-by1sk

    let me say first that I love this series as a makeup artist myself and a historian I just think it's fantastic! "Let them eat cake" is actually attributed to Rousseau, from his autobiography written in 1765 when Marie Antoinette was just 9 years old. He said in reminiscing about a spoiled young princess but there's never been any proof that he was talking about Marie Antoinette herself.

    Amazing video as usual, I have to applaud you on the effort you put into these as they're always great quality and you can tell you've put in a lot of background work and research etc. Anyway I have a few suggestions that I'd love to see as part of the series, First one is the 70s disco era look, kind of Diana Ross 'I'm Coming Out' sort of thing, and the 'New Romantics' look that was popular in the 80s and finally a 'Film Noir' look, I know Lauren Bacall wore this really really well and it'd be interesting to see the comparisons and differences between film noir makeup and normal 40s makeup.
    Anyway, Keep up the great work! I love all of your videos!!

    Love it! Marie Antoinette was a fan of the 'idyllic pastoral' life too -where rich nobility thought that living a simple peasant life was idyllic and wonderful, I wonder if that came out in her make up and clothing tastes too-I guess it probably did, with her pink cheeks, fresh faced look and lots of flowers on her clothes and in her hair. So amazing to consider how these things change through history, thanks for going to so much effort for us xx

    I absolutely love all your videos, but especially historically accurate makeup tutorials, like this one right here!! :) I know others have said this, but I would love to see a medieval times makeup look, if you're interested in doing that. Like a Juliet (from Romeo and Juliet) look, haha!

    So, I'm actually doing a play that takes place in 18th century France, so this was extremely helpful!

    The 18th century is one of my favorite decades of fashion and makeup. Love the women's gowns from that time. So...beautiful.

    Forgive me if you've mentioned this along the way, but a video about the origins of makeup and what the first "face" might have looked like would be fantastic!

    the face chart is mostly right, except the patch on the cheek is the elegant patch and the one on the nose is the snob/smarty pants patch

    Hi! Very lovely! You should keep that white foundation for a Elizabeth I tutorial. It's sad ,but your right about the makeup that they used that had all the toxins in it. Some believe that Queen Elizabeth I died because of the white makeup she wore. I don't know this for sure (I'm not sure if anyone does),but it would make sense. I read that it was Louis XIV (The Sun King), who built Versailles, that really put France into debt. Of course, the following King's didn't help things. I think Marie Antoinette and her husband were very misunderstood. She had a very sad ending. I was just doing some reading on her. Fascinating but sad topic. Love you sweetie! I'll get back to you soon. K.

    Have you done a Regency Period tutorial yet? I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see one of those! :) I adore the Marie Antoinette tutorial - already wondering how I can mod it a bit to wear in the present day!
