    Ceratops is a dubious genus and little is known. Sometimes it’s called Protoceratops. Whatever it’s history it’s still an important in the history of dinosaurs as it is the type genus after which Ceratopsia and Ceratopsidae have been named.

    It's cool to find someone who nerds out over the creatures in this game like I do. Morellatops does look like an animal you would find in the Permian.

    Slight correction, Camels don’t store water in their humps, but they can last about a week without water due to their oval shaped and elastic red blood cells, which allows their blood to flow more easily even when they are low on water.

      @skwirrelle  หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      that's fair, I should have phrased that better. I didn't know about the blood cells though and that's really interesting, thank you for sharing.

    I really do wish Ark’s dinos were more of these fictional chimera. The “Evolved” in the title would be more emphasized and the artists do an incredible job at making them interesting visually while feeling probable.

    • @skwirrelle
      @skwirrelle  หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      Yeah that would be really cool, and it would fit with the lore about the Ark's regenerating things as they experiment with building a stable environment. The morellatops was a fun hybrid to research

      There is a few base game dinos that are kinda that, the trike is kinda a hybrid of a trike and a styracosaurus, even having styracus (i think) as the subspecies name, the stego while mostly nornal has a lost nore plates than usual and has 6 or 8 thagomizer spikes so there were a few odd dinos before they went spec evo

      The dossiers are Helena’s personal interpretations on the creatures. She saw the creature then decided to call it morellatops because of its features, but it’s possible it’s not a hybrid at all, but rather a creature that the humanists/transhumans creating the ARKs found engrammatic matrixes of via fossils (that exist in their universe but not our’s) that only resembled a hybrid in appearance

    Great video. Always wanted to see something like this series! I was/ am a huge nerd about anicent creatures (Mostly Aquatic Reptiles and "Insects" from the Carbon) but lost interest over time. Currently I am rediscovering ark and my love for such things. And videos like this one are exactly what I love to watch while doing metal runs or similar boring tasks! Loved it!

      I like the Rex’s scientific name in the dossier, Tyrannosaurus Dominum as it’s not the T-Rex and in fact a separate species in the genus and perhaps a genetically evolved one.

    • @skwirrelle
      @skwirrelle  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @gendygoblin8391 they've been clever there. All of the creatures have a new species name and some of them mean really interesting things or hint towards that creatures in game purpose. I wish they had found an easier way to share that information in game so it was more obvious

      @@skwirrelleDo you really mean all? Because there’s a lot of Dino’s that share their real life’s name

    • @skwirrelle
      @skwirrelle  19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@JurassicEdits1993 There are a lot of genus names that are used which are the same. But I've not come across a species name that's the same as reality yet.
      For example, the dodo in game is called Raphus replicare, where as the real life dodo is known as Raphus cucullatus. The ingame Rex is called Tryannosaurus dominum, where as we know the real life version as Tyrannosaurus rex - the game version just gets called the Rex because that's what we're all familiar with.
      So, the names look familiar, but they've changed them slightly to make them unique to the ark. It's all kind of hidden in the dossiers though so not the easiest to find. The species name is often based on that creatures in game purpose too, it's pretty clever.

    I already know this one isn't real.
    In reality, though, Ark, like Jurassic Park, is full of hybrids, not real dinos. In the Jurassic fandom, most people incorrectly think that Indominus Rex, Indoraptor and Scorpius Rex are the only hybrids, but in reality, they were always hybrids from the start. In the very first movie, and book, Jurassic Park, it was explained that they filled in gene sequence gaps with dna from other animal, like frogs. In Jurassic World every member of the raptor squad is a hybrid, with each one being mixed with some different animal.
    Likewise, as I understand it, the dinosaurs in Ark are reconstructions, rather than 1 for 1 clones. Some of the creatures, like Wyverns and Griffons are constructed from misinterpretating human myths as historical accounts. Others are created from scratch using existing genomes for a very specific purpose, like Morellotops. The final form of creature in Ark are the monstrocities created by Rockwell, like Shadowmane, and the mutants created by element corruption on Earth, like the Titans.
