  • First time in a tandem white water canoe. It could have went better but over all fun day. Tandem WW boats are hard we need a lot of practice... Level was around 5 inches on D-Bridge Saint Francis river, Missouri

That thing in the bow paddlers hands was really designed for something other than just holding it in the air. :))

First time for both In a tandem and her first time in a white water boat period. All the learning to come!

Could have been a LOT worse. The main burning question is did she have fun? 😃😃😃

All the fun! She is ready to go again. She said her favorite part was the swim lol. I have always had to talk her out of swimming rapids for fun. So she finally got her wish that day.

@@paddlingjourney1450 Then well done! I totally understand the freezing in terms of paddle in the air, it's simply because the novices don't want to screw up. I think she did really great that day and I wish you well on your paddling journey (see what I did there? 🤣🤭🤣)!!!

The stronger paddler should be in the front of the canoe.

No one suggested that to me but I kinda love it. On all our flat water and easy rapid trips I am always trying to get her to paddling from the back more. I feel like it’s a better way to learn. I’m still learning myself we are going to learn one way or another or go down swimming lol.

She's on her way! Gotta start somewhere! I'd rather have a paddler "riding" upfront then actively screwing up! 🤣 But seriously, you got to start somewhere and I bet her second and third trip will be much different after she's processed the trip. 😃

@@paddlingjourney1450 the stronger paddler is always in front on flat water or white water. On white water the front paddler sees more clearly what it coming up and makes the decisions and can rapidly change directions with a draw stroke, etc. On flatwater the front paddler sets the pace and has the stronger stroke so they are in front.
