Thank you for your wonderful video
Semichrome is great for polishing metal.
      Very good for polishing
      Chrome on Motorcycles.
Good for getting the bluing off your pipes
      On your Bonneville.
Wow didn't know Bakelite jewelry was collectible.
It was used extensively in electronics as it doesn't conduct electricity and could easily be molded to required shapes.
AK-74 magazines were first made of Bakelite.
Nice light Brown color with swirls.
They too have become collectable as they are no longer imported.
They have a number imprinted that tells which armory made them. Hope I didn't 'trigger' anyone but to me they are pretty.
      Cheers

I have a piece that smells like smokey mesquite? When I run it under hot water it smells even smokier can you advise me on what kind of plastic that would be?

Don't know if they have it over in the UK, but you should try brazzo! It's a bit more of a paste, but it still a polisher. I think the consistency is what gives the better result

i think i found bakelite or celluloid disk necklace. red cream and tannish color...but it's dull not shiny? looks like it can be polished.... can it be either? it's quite weighty.

Hi! Another tidbit I would enjoy knowing is how do you hand-polish (and what do you use) for your plastic, resin, lucite or bakelite jewelry. (How about a jeweler's rouge cloth?) If you do a search on this , all you get is how to test to see if it's bakelite or not. Thanks!

Hello. Thanks for all the info you gave us. I like Bakelite antique radios. I use a product called Novus number 2 plastic polish. Novus is a clear to beige color. When you use this to polish Bakelite I have noticed that it gives the smell you are talking about and at the same time it leaves the brownish nicotine stain on the cleaning cloth. Give Novus a go and hope it helps. I didn't know that what I use to clean my Bakelite items can be used to test for Authenticity. I use both Semichrome and Novus. Semichrome to polish the antique chassis of the antique radio and Novus to polish up the bakelite along with Johnsons paste wax to shine up the Bakelite. Just noticed this video is a year old, Cheers from Chicago.

Great video! I watched 3 others on the same topic and they either did not show me the "false positives", did not give clear comparisons, or gave me an uneasy feeling in their confidence on the subject. Ordering my Semichrome now... time to test that "cherry amber bakelite" necklace I have. I just did the clunk test and the smell test and I like what I am hearing and smelling. Thanks!

Like nigella lawson of the plastic world. Soothing voice and a Bobby dazzler. Interesting thanks. I knew tests for amber but not bakelite, most bakelite I can tell by weight or design but it's nice to know about the friction test as when I'm out and about it's a bit intrusive to whip out the polychrome.

Thanks for the tips! Patina is used in metals only though

    • @FitfullyVintage
      @FitfullyVintage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Thank you. Sure thing, the strict definition of patina is related to metal but is also commonly used to describe the brown film that occurs in aged Bakelite items.
