Reworking a Hot Mess of Succulents

  • I’ve done it!
    The flanking courtyard bed is complete and I’m thrilled with the results!
    I unearthed four boulders and some garden art to boot.
    I did things on this side a bit differently than on the other, so take notes!
    Buckle up, Newbies, and enjoy the succulent ride as I snip, clip, behead and reset these little jewels that we call succulents.
    Thanks to member, Lynn L. from Clairemont for her question about xeriscapes.

    What a great choice for the right flank. I thought you would use the parryi but I suppose the blue glow's color is nearer to the potatorum. I like how you create narratives for your garden: the Garden of Death, The Gutters, the Propagation Station. The NICU...and now The Courtyard of Second Chances.

    Do u water yur succulents when you plant them? They come from the nursery after having been watered every day or so and are used to it. I'm thinking I should water my newly planted succulents but am unsure of what t do. I live in Murietta and it's super hot and dry here right now. Afraid to put them in very hot dirt without water.

    I have a question about sticks on fire. I noticed that the sticks on fire in the pot that you are standing next to, is very nice, full and contained. Mine is leggy big and crazy. How can I trim mine to look like that, and can it be done? I know it would probably be a milky mess.... could you maybe do a video on trimming Sticks on Fire? Thanks!

    • @helenschneider4289
      @helenschneider4289 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there, I don't think there's a video specifically on that here, but Laura trims them in a lot of videos so I can tell you how she does it. She cuts off a piece from the top that she thinks looks nice and uses it as a cutting in her arrangements. As an added benefit, the plant grows more slowly when it's put in as a cutting. The bottom of the plant she just tosses or puts in the garden of death. As for the milky mess, she just says to be careful not to get it on your skin, that's all. Hope that helps!

      @julisnedeker8795 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@helenschneider4289 Thanks Helen! Thank you so much for replying! I will try this! and use SOF as cuttings, I'm thinking I can use multiple ones to get the effect like Laura has in her pots on her pillars, this helps so much! Thanks!

    If anyone should know it’s you, Laura. I also got careless not wearing gloves multiple times and now my hands are pretty much on fire with cacti needles. And the tiny invisible kind are the most painful. I’ve googled treatment, unsuccessfully. Other than being more careful in the future, do you know a way of relieving this needle problem? Will they eventually work their way out of my skin or do I would need to worry about infection? My hands always feel like they’re on fire. I can’t be the only one.
