I’ve been a CNA for two years and all of my favorite nurses I’ve worked with have all had CNA experience. I just got accepted into nursing school and I’m so excited for this journey!
I know I’m years late to this video, but I’ve done so much research about becoming a cna and i gotta say, this one was the most straight forward, very informative topic about what to expect and most importantly, having an open mind about about starting the schooling & what to expect in near future. Very nice video, thank you!
I got my CNA license my senior year of high school and now I just got accepted into nursing school and I am so grateful for that decision! And you're so right, you know which nurses were CNAs before nursing for sure (which ones don't answer calls and those who help you transfer lol).
Karla Holloway thank you so much!! I was watching some of your other videos and you said you’re in Chicago - I go to IUN and some of my clinical placements are going to be in Chicago!
I think all student RNs should require to shadow a CNA around. Im a LVN and we had to do that when we started our clinicals and it gave me a great respect for them. Their work is no joke and the workload is extraordinarily stressful. My hat goes offto the CNAs who have been doing that for years.
I did CNA too & it helped alot for my first semester I was one step ahead . You're definitely more prepared & I do think it would prepare you . Also, because cna work is hard it reminds me that I want to be that Nurse that is willing to help out her CNA/ coworkers. It's a reminder to stay humble .♡
How is it? I work at the post office and I make pretty good money but I’ve always wanted to go to school and get some education, and I decided to go for nursing I don’t know what type of a nurse yet but I am accepted to the CNA classes starting next Feb 1st, it’s not an easy decision but my guts tell me just do it
Update: I’ve been told that with CNA, I will be wiping patients asses and don’t even pay good so am really scared. I paid a tone of money already the cost of the class and all the damn immunizations.
@@haninDaline87 I’ve been a lvn for 1 1/2 years already I had 4-6 CNA’s helping so yes you do have to clean patients but you should probably look into working for a hospice company pay is better then a snf or even look into home health company’s
@@miked2638 thank you so much for taking the time to answer me. I applied for lvn too, all I need is to pass the teas exam, and it’s a lot and I’m lazy to prepare. How long do you think it takes to be prepared for the exam ?
This is 100%. When you have that CNA experience, experience working directly with patients, and you know your stuff, it‘s always going to be an advantage! I’ve worked in healthcare for 3 years and it makes such a difference. I’m getting ready to take my CNA exam soon and hoping to get into a nursing program next year 🙏🏼 thank you for your content ❤️
I’m currently a CNA at a hospital, and I just started at chamberlain as well! I’m thankful for the experience even though it’s been tough. It’s true that the nurses who didn’t have this experience treat you awful, but this experience has taught me so much to become a better and helpful nurse! Thank you for your video 💛
I’m currently in nursing school, I just posted a video 🤍💉. I used to be a CNA & I really think that , that experience is going to help me be the best nurse I can be once im down with my program. The CNA experience gave me a good hands on experience of what it might look like to be a nurse. Being a CNA confirmed the fact that I do in fact want to pursue nursing. I resonated with a lot of things you said. Im going to make a CNA Experience video too. New subscriber here 🤍
Nobody on TH-cam has ever described exactly what I've been wanting to do the exact way you did. I have been wanting to get in the medical field and I like nursing but I couldn't decide if that is exactly what I wanted. I've decided to become a CNA to test the waters first. Thank you for your video
This is my plan too. I also need a job that pays slightly better anyways, so I think becoming a CNA is a great first step. Especially if you’re planning to go the nurse route. Just so many pros than cons
Thank you so much for this video!! I’ve been debating to apply next year (since this year is canceled due to COVID-19). & Thank you for using your platform to talk about #BlackLivesMatter
I appreciate this video so much. There are so many reviews about being a CNA and I come across a lot of the ones that have negative opinions about it. As someone who is looking into becoming a CNA before a nurse and not knowing if this job is really for me, it is a little hard to digest the negative things that people say about it just because there's interest in working in the medical field. So it kind of gave me a 50-50 vibe about if I should or should not do it. But this video gave me a great mindset about being a CNA no matter the dirty work, and the way you explained it just gave me hopes and positive vibes. Thank you for this video!
I agree with you ! Being a CNA really helps you with your skills and it helps you determine if your a good fit to work with patients. If you don’t have patience or compassion during the time your a CNA, nursing is not for you.
Wow wow watching this video makes me feel confident and ease my stress because your experience as CNA helps how it feels and what to expect. I'm still in CNA program, we only went to hospital on the first half of the year to experience it but now the dates extended to go there (technically it's hard rn because of pandemic) so we have to do the skills online at home then later in the lab-class for distant learning. I do agree that taking CNA is a good start before nursing school. Last year, I was very close to apply the RN program which I felt I wasn't ready and scared but knowing that there's CNA, it felt relief and advantage of its point before entering the program. Thanks for sharing, Karla! ❤👩🏻⚕️
being a CNA gives you the fundamental skills to treat and take care of your patients in the future and makes a difference in your bedside care. It also shows how many people who do not know how to properly turn patients and have good bedside manners. Good video
‼️Patient Care Tech isn’t the same as a Certified Nurse Assistant ‼️ CNA’s do non invasive skills like transfer, vitals, post mortem care, how to give residents/patients showers, etc. A PCT has a collection of certificates that include being a CNA, a phlebotomist & an EGC tech. They focus on things a CNA does as well as drawing blood (phlebotomy), checking the heart (ECG), as well as extra skills delegated to a PCT such as how to insert catheters, how to use aspirators, etc etc ~
I should also mention that obviously becoming a CNA would take less time because it’s one certificate & the time varies depending on your location! It’s a certain amount of class hours/clinical hours. For my PCT certs, it took me one full semester, but again, I’m sure it depends on ur location
I have been a cna for about two years and have been afraid of pursuing nursing but I feel it in my bones I'm meant to be one! Being a cna also gives a lot of insight of nursing in general! So now I'm enrolling into college for RN! Fingers crossed! ❤
Don't be ..I'm a CNA now been for the last 6 years..just put yourself in the pitcients shoes..do what you can for them that's it..this is coming from a half Italian person who goes off on everything so be patient..don't get mad over their demand let it go..
i was wondering about this im about to start my CNA program soon but way nervous and later i might want to be a RN or LPN . You should do a video on how you worked as a CNA and went to school for RN, like how you managed it.
My dream was to become a nurse. I was a cna for 4 days. It changed my mind about nursing.. I realized I didnt have a strong stomach toward vomit. I have a fear toward people puking. As soon as someone was about to puke I went out of the room and quit... its embarrassing but I realized I cant handle it. I am either doing sonography or radiation therapy. I know there is puking in those field as well but it's not an everyday thing.. I was on a trama surgery floor and it was puking every day.
Ashley Abel I’m sorry to hear that babe! But like you mention there are other carriers in the medical field that you can do. Don’t be embarrassed, nursing is a hard profession, and the things they see and do are not for everyone. Keep doing research until you find what you really want to do, good luck 🤗
I am a cna and I am curious if I should study to become a nurse, my question for you is, Nursing school does it kill you? many people say is brutal and I am scared of that
Help! 🥺. Im a fresh high school graduate. Idk whether i should start as a CNA first and get 1 year experience and then apply for RN at a CC. Or should i just go straight into a private LVN program that costs 30k. But I’m probably going to have to re do my pre reqs at a CC and Idk if my classes would transfer.
Karla I so appreciate your videos girl! They are so motivating and informative. I'm moving from ca to Illinois soon and transferring to school there and was told I need to take cna classes and was a bit bummed about it because here in California it's not required and I'm pretty much done with my prerequisites. Watching your video makes me realize that cna will help me get through some of the nursing problem like you said to focus on harder skills. What cna school did you attend?
Judith Rios I think anything that gives you the experience of caring for people it’s great! It makes it easier when going into clinicals, and you have to talk to patients and patient’s family members.
I start my medical assisting program soon I didn’t choose cna because Iv already been a caregiver for 4 years and a lot of it was the same as a cna I plan on getting my medical assisting diploma then going straight to the rn program. What do you think? Any tips? ✨
I’m a freshman at UNLV and was accepted to the undecided program in December . I now now I want to become a labor and delivery nurse but like you said I know nothing 😂💀 any tips to get ahead ?!
Star Abyi if you have time, start learning the basics of nursing. Like taking vitals, transferring a patient, repositioning a patient, etc. There are many free resources online that can help you get familiar with all these skills. 😊
Question, did you join your CNA program after you finished your science prerequisites at your college? I’ve been debating this for a long time and I’m just not sure on what to do. I have 2 more classes so I was thinking maybe I could do it after.
I’ve been a CNA for two years and all of my favorite nurses I’ve worked with have all had CNA experience. I just got accepted into nursing school and I’m so excited for this journey!

Texas tech is requiring a CNA for 2021 nursing classes and also at the community college here we need a CNA certificate to get into the LVN program

Although I was never a CNA, but I think it builds character. It’s a good route to start, but there are many other ways to start -:)

what other ways are there to start if you don’t mind me asking?
