I think you are just an inspiration to so many people with how upbeat you are!!! I was diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis 11yrs ago and my pancreatic duct was twisted and left useless so the pain I have endured over these past few years with nearly constant flare ups has been exhausting, hard to deal with and at times you feel as though giving up may be an easier choice but its not ...fighting through the pain and inconvenience is worth every second....I love to see young people like yourself that face adversity and soldier on with a smile and take the time to inspire and help others...keep on smiling and keep these videos going too, you may have helped more people than you ever imagined possible with your upbeat attitude and your strength!!!! May God bless you :)
I am 55 and will be getting my colostomy in July! You are so awesome and such an inspiration to me! Although I won't be wearing a bikini (lol) I am so happy to see that you are in no way concerned about what others think and that is a wonderful attitude to have! You rock!
your a wonderful young lady to be able to sport that bag and you cant even tell what it is.im now 43 and now 9years colonrectal stage 3 cancer survivor. i began when i was 30years old.this would make my 2nd stoma.keep on teaching others about your colostomy because theres alot of people still ashamed of there bag. thank you for showing this video
@Travino An ileostomy is basically the same thing except the output is going to be more liquid than solid because with a colostomy, you still have part of your colon. The colon absorbs water, meaning there is less water in the output. Other then that, its basically the same! Hope this helps!
Wow what an inspirational young lady you are! Im a nursing student and when im learning new things in class i love to go to youtube to hear real stories. So happy i looked at yours! You should be very proud of yourself. Thanks for sharing your story and the pics at the beach were fantastic! hope you're keeping well :)
Oh my gosh really?! This makes me so excited since I am starting nursing school this spring. I really hope I helped all of you understand ostomies! :D Thank you so so much!
Thank you. You've made me smile about what's to come. I had this surgery back in 2007, but then had a j-pouch formation with an illeoanal takedown done in 2008. Well the pouch is shot and I am having the stoma re-installed here in the next few days. Thank you again for making me actually smile about the coming days. Keep it up. Brother in Crohn's disease.
wow that is a great idea, i had not heard of someone making a bag look like something cute. I have uc and the idea of a Ostomy bag for me has been off the table and i thought that id rather live with the pain and discomfort and die rather than have a stoma, but seeing how well you handle it gives me hope that if my condition gets bad enough, the idea of a Ostomy is not the end of the world for me. so thanks. you seem very brave and the world needs more people like you.
@meardonna I'm actually wearing a two piece ostomy, so I just snap the bag off really quick and put on a new one, theres no cleaning or anything involved. I bring a little bag to throw away the old bag in. And if you really like the empying kind, you could definitely put the duct tape over those bags too! The bag would just be a little longer.
You are officially awesome, I don't know anyone who's had an ostomy but it's great to see you're not letting it get you down and you're putting yourself out there trying to help other people. Great idea by the way.
Awesome!! This has enlightened me immensely even though I've been around it almost my entire life vicariously through other members of my family and friends. Thanks for being who you are!
This was awesome....I just got my ostomy and it's nice to find a community here on youtube....thanks for the post and the projected attitude of having an ostomy!
I really hope Maggie does this,She is one amazing young lady.I cant even tell u how watching her video helped me deal with my bag. Thanks to her i look at in so different now.She is such an inspiration to me.I cant thank her enough. DO IT MAGGIE!!!!! AND THANK U SO MUCH HONEY
I just wanted to say how Inspirational you are, so young so mature and so much brightness to your spirit. Thank You, even though i'm a male this was helpful. Do you know of men that do this? I live in Florida and i'm concerned that I will lose the ability to go to the beach and enjoy the water. I just found out that I will have a full removal of my colon so this is all new to me... Again thank you your a blessing
Maggie i have to say u have helped me. I hated this. Im 55 years old. With stage 3 colon cancer. And had a 4 inch tumor removed from my colon. Which i have to have a bag so my colon can heal.I was to have it fixed after the new year. And was crushed when my chemo dr said i cant have it done till my chemo is done.Im now looking at summer. And i was so upset. But when i was watching your video.I went wow what an amazing young lady u are.Thank u for making me see things so different.Loving hugs
Hi, You are amazing, I love this " how too" designer wear! I'm a nurse in Canada, I was just searching You Tube for a video to assit with teaching some of our Personal Support Workers on appliance changes and I came accross your video... :)
That's a pretty nice idea :) For the problem of having the waves pulling the bag off the flange, I suggest you wear one of those belts to hold the bag. I know they are not very fashionable, but with your creativity I'm sure you can come up with an idea to make it look cool. I've gone to the beach and to pools, and even jumped from trampolines and never had problems with the bag coming off -in all the 20 years I've had a bag.
Way cool. Thanks for sharing, I really learned a lot. I have an idea. Buy an extra piece of the suit (top, bottom, second suit) and make a reusable cover to match the suit.
Hi, I'm a nursing student and found your video when searching for videos on ileostomies and colostomies. Thanks for your video and I will definitely share your video with my patients! Thanks so much, brilliant idea.
Thanks for that awesome idea! My son had a colostomy and is about to have an illeostomy. He is only 3 and I was looking for ways to get him to think it is cool. I can't wait to get him some stickers and tape to decorate his bags!!!
Hi! I'm in school to be a PSW, and I'll likely be working with people with ostomys and I think advice and videos like this will be really useful to me an my clients, depending on where I work. Liked, Faved, Subscribed!
your soo pretty! and I just love your fun spirit! I am sure your videos will help alot of people who are living with an ostomy! God Bless you sweety! your an inspiration!
Hey great video, so inspiring to me to see someone out at the beach with an ostomy! Only just had mine done so havent had the chance yet but i may well try this in the summer!
@wrzucacz Hahah really? You think so? I just looked her up but I'm not too sure, people keep telling me either Alexis Bledel or the girl in twilight. hmmm
Thanks for your video & positive attitude. 24 years ago, I had a colostomy for 15 months due to a gunshot wound in a robbery. Colostomy for 2 months, reversal surgery (failed, with a 1-month hospital stay), colostomy again for a year. I used the bag with the clip at the bottom, and I learned to avoid eating seeded bread & to crack the seal each morning to release the gas. Do they still make the flanges out of wax? Mine used to last about a week. I wish your video had been around then. :)
Thanks for posting this: My mom just had got out of the hospital after having half her colon and all her rectum removed. Your video, and more importantly, your attitude are INSPIRING!
going beach today, love your idea miht try it another time, the only issue I have with it is using a closed bag. with an open bag if it gets full I can just nip to the loo. if its closed I'd have to ffindd ssomewhere hygeenic and spend ages changing bag. I'm new to this and have never used a closed bag for that reason
@glennauii Do they make sequin duct tape? Haha I feel like I would wind up supergluing sequins to the bag but I'll look into it! Maybe get some sequin fabric or something:)
Great idea and video! Thank you so much! I had my surgery at 16 (I'm 23 now) so I get how hard it is to cover it up and still look good! Great job and idea! I'm here if you ever want to talk :) you're very inspiring!
You are amazing! So cool to see that you show you ostomy off! Especially being a teenage girl! I have had an ileostomy for 6 months and have only told a few close friends! Keep smiling girl :)
I just got an ostomy four weeks ago and I was outside tanning in a full piece which is so not cool. I was looking up ostomy videos and swimming belts. I really like your idea. I am going to try it...I have so many cute two-pieces :). Thanks so much for sharing. Since I live in NY I might not get another chance it's already getting cold but I will try it next summer. Thanks!!
Thank you so much for this. I will be getting an ostomy in March. I am worried about being self conscious. Your video has helped my attitude so much! Thanks again! ~~~ Lisa
This is a really clever idea! I would be worried about the bag falling off if a wave hit but still it's a nice change from the idea that "if you have an ostomy you will not go swimming" or "if you have an ostomy you will wear a one piece swimsuit that looks like your grandmother's".
@666darkdragon777 I totally understand you. When I first got mine I didnt want to tell any friends but eventually I forced myself to and they are so understanding of it. One of my friends actually came up with a name for it, so now when if my ostomy is making noise or whatever, I'll go "Leroy! Be quiet!" You'd be surprised how much support you can get from friends who don't know a thing about ostomies, and people are usually very understanding.
They should be making them in prints anyway, I think you can get bags for kids that have colours on them, good on you for finding a way, do you take some bits of duck tape to cover the filter when you go in the water?
Wow, haha. I'm 17, and I've had an ileostomy for a little over a year. and I've only told about three people. I'm so afraid of what people with think of me, and if they'll treat me differently for having it. You're amazing! And you're so pretty(:
@kellyxmichelle25 The truth is when I tell people, they don't think I'm weird or anything, they're just really really curious. They want to know what it is, how it works, and why I have it. Learn everything you can about it so you'll feel more comfortable to tell people about it! You'll sound like a genious because you know all of this medical stuff that most people don't :) And thank you so much! :) :) :)
Im twelve and ive had 2 ostomy's in the last two years. And sometimes I cry because I cant play, or go into the water, or eat before I go into public. Its harsh. At least she is confident about wearing her ostomy bag. God bless her. I might get my ostomy bag in May. Im so stoked. I go to my Dr. appointment on May 9. Please pray for me. Thanks for hearing my story. God bless all.
Hi! Your are an inspiration for so many. I know someone in my area who has had one due to crohn's. What I wanted to say is that I have the zebra duct tape, but also I have tape that exactly, happens to match your bikini! Ha! Got it, I think, at "Staples."

Maggie is right sweetie.I have a ileostomy. And it is a pain.Cause i seem to have to dump it more than someone with a colostomy, I wish your Uncle all the best Travino!!

Your creative idea may be worthy for the stoma manufactures - I think if I were you, create a line of designs which are part of the product (as in prints) and submit to any of the companies who make stoma appliances. Maybe even come up w/ a patent for your idea? Maybe you will get a kickback !! You are an inspiration for others !!

@frankgallagherwasere thanks! i keep hearing about these belts, what are they?
Inspiring. This is amazing! Keep up with the optimism :) I love how you accept it rather than resent it. Very creative as well
@belovemay I have an ileostomy, and it really does fill up quickly so I usually bring 3 or 4 of them with me with a little bag to throw them away in
I just wanted to say how Inspirational you are, so young so mature and so much brightness to your spirit. Thank You, even though i'm a male this was helpful. Do you know of men that do this? @mitteey I have one because my colon doesn't work very well because of Crohn's disease, so the ostomy is letting my colon rest and heal
It is awesome to see you making the best of this. Very inspirational, thanks for the tutorial!

Thanks for such a great idea! Your attitude is truly an inspiration!
@jktaylor69 Thank you:) I could either be upset all the time or I can find ways to make it awesome, so I choose to make my ostomy something awesome!
Thank you so much for this. I will be getting an ostomy in March. I am worried about being self conscious. Your video has helped my attitude so much! Thanks again! ~~~ Lisa

Cheers!
What an amazing idea!!! You are an inspiration :)
hi
What an amazing and inspiring attitude you have.
@johnd94 That would be very painful.
Idk I suppose that different things work for different people. I've been using Holister since 2006 and haven't had any problems. Convatec (used from 1991 to 2006) however was a pain in the butt for me. But yeah, once you find a brand that works great for you, don't hesitated to hit the beach, it's really not that problematic. In any case just take a little pack with one change for just in case. I usually end up not using them, but it's good just to have an extra.
Maggie is right sweetie.I have a ileostomy. And it is a pain.Cause i seem to have to dump it more than someone with a colostomy, I wish your Uncle all the best Travino!!
what a great idea, some people are amazing
These are fantastic! I have a question though, since they are so small, they don't allow for much collection, how do you keep from emptying it? I know its a two piece but without a drainage opening you'd have to keep switching bags correct?
@kellyxmichelle25 I'm so glad! :)
This is an awesome Idea. I love it.. U r Great
I had a temp ost. b~4. Never liked it much. Then I got hooked back up. You are very cute.... and I was so self conscious the whole time...espesh at the beach ; thanks for making this video!!!
@sixdegreesofgina Aww yay! Congrats! Glad to hear that because even though I'm 18, eventually I want children and I don't know if I'll have an ostomy then or not. and thank you!
Your creative idea may be worthy for the stoma manufactures - I think if I were you, create a line of designs which are part of the product (as in prints) and submit to any of the companies who make stoma appliances. Maybe even come up w/ a patent for your idea? Maybe you will get a kickback !! You are an inspiration for others !!
you are a genious i always to see people who dont let a disability stop them doing what they want
My uncle had a colonostomy in 96 and an eliostomy recently. Do you know what to expect from an eliostomy?
Hey "letstalk",
You rule! Great video. Thanks for making me feel a little more normal.
Props.
:)
@frankgallagherwasere thanks!
I'm 15 in i also have a bag w/ a big cut almost above my chest in above my hip in thanks....
my cousin used to have an ostomy
You poor thing.
I'm glad you've adapted so well; you seem to be perfectly fine.
Very cute idea, you are awesome
That looks great girl, and so does her. Hope you had a great day
I think it looks good
Was that Zac?
Nope! Didn't know him when I made this- this was about ten years ago
that's cute, very creative ! :)
@dleverington Thank you so much :)

Stool is toxic to the organs outside of the GI tract, that's why our body naturally removes it directly out of the colon. To allow the stool to be stored in a container inside the body would be an extremely high risk for infection. Artificial intestines would be excellent but they would need to mimic the muscular contractions of the colon and small intestines. Feel free to explore options though.
Ileostomy? Very impressive and creative.
Wonderful!
