I literally just had a guy today, repair the castle getting treb'd, spending a good 200'ish stone, then said castle goes down, and he immediately built another one in the same spot 5 seconds after the first one went down, which also got destroyed soon after. And after all that, he built a 4th forward castle on one of my flanks, without any army backing it up.
When I first came here, this was all swamp. Everyone said I was daft to build a castle on a swamp, but I built in all the same, just to show them. It sank into the swamp. So I built a second one. That sank into the swamp. So I built a third. That burned down, fell over, then sank into the swamp. But the fourth one stayed up. And that's what you're going to get, Lad, the strongest castle in all of England.

At 400 Elo I am playing lots of Arena matches and I notice this strategy a lot, where players build all their military buildings in the center. Unless they're Goths this is usually a bad idea. As Lithuanians I like to stay inside the home base and not even build stuff close to the walls. That way the enemy has no idea what I'm up to. And I really appreciate the geography that gives me a lot of extra space to the wings of the main base, getting 3 walled off bases is best with multiple TCs. I sometimes come out to get relics, I sometimes take some stone and gold right outside the walls, but for the most part I stay put. Then well into Imp the enemy comes forward with their mixed army and my 100% hussar storm begins. The production buildings in the center, even the castles, don't last long. All I can think every time this plays out is, 'you start with walls here for a reason, USE THEM!' We get plenty of space in most Arena setups to be able to stay behind the walls, you just have to be efficient with your building placement. Sim City that shit and make it tight like Downtown Beijing. 85 farms is doable.
Yeah, red had an eco lead for much of the game. He just needed to spend. Also, remember the APM counter in Capture Age is effective APM. Toggling through buildings doesn't add to it. Queueing up 5 units or selling 500 resources at once probably counts as 5 actions though. I know the higher APM player doesn't get much of a win rate boost from it, but it should be a relevant stat for those of us still growing to see how well we use our hotkeys and how experienced we are with multitasking. While it can be cheesed unnaturally high, that doesn't usually happen to the extent that it wouldn't be helpful.
It will be two imbalanced teams, the worse of the two consisting of one player who walls and booms without ever chatting, one player who gets rushed and resigns instantly, and the other who complains about his noob team.

I would like to see 4v4 where there are two pro players and they each get 3 low Elo team mates. The pro can actually direct what he wants done and the minions then general it up on the battlefield. We would get to see the managerial skills of the pro players and take some of the serious decision making away from the lower level players who might not know so well what to do. We can see how the commanders talk to their underlings too and how effective their leadership is. Like, will a pro commander cuss out his team mates and tell them they're stupid? Or will he be supportive and positive? And which approach will work better?
I love this LEL series and it has made me want to get into AoE2 again. I got it on release what feels like a lifetime ago but i guess i need to get a new version if i want to play MP, but which one? Is it the Definitive Edition?
Oh one day I will get Slavs on a community game and I will sure do research the monk armor tech. I love every monk civ, that gets both redemption and blockprinting.
I feel like Red was using a strategy that works better on the AI than a human player. I could've sworn there were a few times this game where he intentionally took bad fights hoping to draw Blue into prolonged castle fire. Had it worked, Blue might have given up in frustration for all we know. As someone who's done similar strategies, it just doesn't work.
Nice and late comment, but did not see anyone mention it. Brock Higgs is indeed hockey player born in 1992 and played both in the USA and Canada before 2017, then a bit in Europe (Slovakia), and in 2021 transfered back to Canada

T90, if you ever want to make some t-shirt merchandise for your channel, I'd recommend peasants chopping straggler trees as the art. Everytime I hear you gripe about chopping straggler trees, it makes me lol for LEL.
Hey your videos are awesome and have been super heplful! But I was wondering if you could do a mini series on how to deafeat each level of the computer AI? I dont play much online at the moment and I just cant get past the Hard Ai. Would be awesome to see a mini series showcases each difficulty and how it gets harder and how to properly defend/attack against it.
Depends which map you're playing, but here are a few suggestions. 1. Use your scout to lame the AI in Dark Age, by stealing/killing sheep and also attacking their vills as they try to lure boars. It can really slow them down. Takes some practice while also keeping your own TC working though. 2. If you're having trouble getting Feudal Age rushed, build a watch tower at the front of the base. The AI army will often run away from a tower, particularly archers/skirms. You can also practice building small walls in towards your TC, which again acts as a major deterrent. 3. Practice your Dark Age. Personally I don't like copying other people's builds, as it takes the fun out of working things out yourself. I prefer a fast Castle Age time, and attacking then. Other people prefer to fight in Feudal, which I've always found more difficult against harder AI. Either way, working out your Dark Age build is crucial. 4. Have a plan. If you're opting for Feudal Age pressure, then work out which units you want, how quickly you can produce them, and what you're planning to do with them. Archers on the enemy woodline and/or berries is always a good start. If on the other hand you're opting for Castle Age pressure, decide whether you're going to knight rush, or castle drop, or event a combination of strategies. It takes a bit of practice working out how many vills you need to have enough of the relevant resources, and how quickly you can get to that stage. 5. Attacking the AI early is usually the easiest way to beat it. But if you prefer to boom up and fight in Imp, make sure you practice walling, and get a defensive castle up as early as possible. You need to be able to match the AI for villager production, so practice booming. And in Imp, make sure you build forward production buildings, and lots of them. You need to be able to spam units, because the AI will be spamming units at you. Hope this helps.

I'm 400 ELO and I see smurfs pretty frequently, they are even more common lower than 400. They start a game, resign, and wait the timeout, then sometimes they go all out and overpower lower level players to try to get on T90. I got a game set up with "Low Elo Legends" once (that was his name). I was about 200 ELO and this other player was apparently afk until well into Castle Age. I was getting ready to attack, went over to check out his base, said "you there?" (I wasn't about to attack an afk player without checking first) and then he proceeded to destroy me. Don't get me wrong, I found his base and razed it, but he kept migrating to new areas of the map and building new bases everywhere. Before long he was in Imp and I was getting pushed back. I think players do this to feel powerful. Like playing against Easy AI. Kind of pathetic IMO. Let the low Elos play the other Low Elos.

To those in chat saying they didn't like Skylar from Breaking Bad, neither did I and that's kind of the point. She's perfect for the role she plays. She's the little-goody-2-shoes perfect mom who is so good she's bad. That's what makes the "I am the one who knocks" scene so good!
