If you have Two Step verification you'll notice that the "allow less secure app" option isn't available. to get around that use the same method in this video the only difference is you have to generate an app password for windows here's a link to quickly get there security.google.com/settings/security/apppasswords here you can generate an app password for outlook and it will give you a password you can use on the Outlook Software. copy that password and paste in in the password column of your email setup

I just went to Google account login. Did forgot password. They send a passcode as long as you have another e-mail on record and just changed my password. Problem solved
Go to login Gmail REMOTELY thru the WEBSITE. Then it will ask you for your password. If your password doesn't work, it will ask you for your last know password. Enter that and it will take you to change password. Change your password and REMEMBER it. Then go back to your regular e-mail and where it pops up, put in your NEW password. It should then work.

Apparently, less secure app access is not available for accounts with 2-step verification enabled. I have been struggling with this for FIVE MONTHS. All tutorials including this one did not mention this critical step. Hallelujah, I finally have Outlook Access Again!!!!

Thanks. Problem solved. The only thing I would suggest is - before configuring the new account, enable the "less secure apps" in gmail settings, and test the account - it works without the new account
I found that if two step verification is enabled you have to get an application specific password to allow less secure app access. Suddenly Outlook 2013 became less secure when I changed my Google password. Good video. helped me in the right direction.

I like how this takes you through the setup, although a long way for the fix. The setting in google profile is the quick fix, but again this helps you set up everything. WIth Google updates the menus are slightly different in the Sign in & security, but easy to figure out.

Outdated Google version makes it difficult to follow instructions as the pages and steps outlined do not talk to current version. Great tutorial up to the point of solving the pop-up issue in Outlook -username and password issue. Might be time to do another vid as I couldn't even locate what was required to fix the problem. Thanks. Even with the allow less secure app enabled it didn't work, then I switched it off and back on and it worked. Older Outlook versions need slightly different server settings.

Thanks kept getting the error for a few days, changed my password multiple times and once i followed your steps, it worked.
Outdated Google version makes it difficult to follow instructions as the pages and steps outlined do not talk to current version. Great tutorial up to the point of solving the pop-up issue in Outlook -username and password issue. Might be time to do another vid as I couldn't even locate what was required to fix the problem.

Thank you and bless you! I would never have realized that my disabling "Allow Less Secure Apps" was the culprit of my sudden pop-ups in Outlook. Who would think that Outlook is a "less secure App" anyway? Other websites advised reinstalling the Gmail account from scratch, which would have meant losing a lot of stuff, which I was almost ready to do out of exasperation until I found you! Thanks. Even with the allow less secure app enabled it didn't work, then I switched it off and back on and it worked. Older Outlook versions need slightly different server settings.
