In my opinion after seeing what is required for this install and what has to be modified I think the weight gain behind the axle would have been worth it with a replacement tank for ease of servicing / repairs, no mods to fuel lines, no added wiring or valves, no factory brackets removed or modified. But like you said you didn’t have a problem with it in the last cruiser.

Gday mate, put the little Ryco filter in from the 110 tank before the change over valve!!!!! The change over valve is highly susceptible to any dirt particles. Brown Davis told me this and also to keep an eye on it ( I carry 2 spares). I change it out every 20,000 kms.
Apparently the original tank has an inbuilt Toyota design (type of cyclical set up in the pick up) that stops any particles that will affect the change over valve. It is patented and brown Davis can't duplicate it. Hope this makes sense. I have the Safari duel filter up front as well but Brown Davis installed the tank and I asked them about the Ryco filter. Mine is a ute (single cab) so a bit easier to get at this filter than the double cab.
That change over valve is not something I would like to see fail in the High Country where i live.

@@smarttouringsystems-garage I get a lot of fuel from a farm tank and when the fires are on, CFA tankers etc. Hate to see that change over valve get damaged. They are not easy to replace ad Brown Davis was short of them during the lockdowns etc
Good luck with your vehicle, I am still waiting to order my next one which was normally every 2 years.

@@HighCountryHughesie yeah mate, the complexity of the install and exactly what you said about trying to replace that valve is what made me question the install. But the location forward of the axle is to good as opposed to other options. Good luck with the new one mate.

Great vid. I got the facelift 79 2 door... still no tray, bare bones. Still deciding weather ill do it myslef. Think it would be heaps easier than the 4 door? Cheers mate

Do you have to clean dirt inside that browndavie long range fuel tank before install under cab ?

Yes it is advised to flush it out first.

Yeah I did consider it, but cost and usability as a 4x4 were factors. It would have been a nicer tow vehicle for sure.
