I’m a lady and don’t need a lady protagonist to identify with. I can relate with men too. Most of my favorite characters in Star Wars and otherwise are men, and I’m fine with that. If there’s a cool lady that’s well written then great! I love Bo-Katan actually. But they are putting women to shame with all these terribly written female characters.

If you need examples or evidence may I direct you to simply watching modern entertainment or look at this quote from doctor who "Rose “Yes, we know. We know everything. Thanks.”
Donna “And you know nothing! It’s a shame you’re not a woman any more. ‘Cos she’d have understood.”
Rose “You’ve got all that power, but there is a way to get rid of it. Something a male-presenting Time Lord will never understand.”"
If it's not clear, the writers think they're being clever but really only being misandric while simultaneously showing they dont understand the queer characters they're attempting to elevate anyway I mean they're ascribing certain traits to a mtf timelord from a mtf trans person all while using gender absolutes to do so unironically.

What made great women characters was that they were unique and special at one time. Yes, women have physical disadvantages against most men, and in times of war that is a significant disadvantage. Leia was great because she was witty, fierce, brave, charming, etc. Not because she could go toe to toe in battle with Vader. When every single woman is written as essentially a man, it takes away from what makes womanhood so beautiful in the first place.

    • @freeshavaacadooo1095

The argument that male fans won't like women in Star Wars is absurd. Males love to play games with female characters that are strong and have powers. It's the basis of so many Gacha games, anime stories, and so on. If the stories were well written, and if the writers would drop the sub-text filled with modern political statements, fans would warm up to practically any female character that wasn't an insufferable man-hater.

@@EkleipsiGret I can list a couple but im sure others can explain more in detail.
For one, the story breaks lore established in the prequel trilogy with ki adi mundi being alive 40 years younger when this series events transpired. Him being alive that long before and being involved with the events (that there being a sith) doesnt coincide what he says in the prequel trilogy. Which begs the question, had he known the sith had returned (from the events of acolyte) why hadnt he said anything during those movies, and probably couldve changed the events that led to their demise.
Another point is the wishy washy nature of the villain, the sister. Who once attempted to kill osha when they were younger because osha wanted to join the jedi. BECAUSE of her attempt in killing her sister, she started a fire (somehow in a mountain) proceeded to get her entire family killed and blame rhe jedi. She then joined up with a sith wnd started killing jedi masters, THEN she finds out her sister is alive and decided that she doesnt want to kill any more jedi and try to swear her alligence to her but thar doesnt end well, she tries to turn herself to thr jedi in hopes to escape her sith master (because she thinks giving them info on a sith will get her scott free from going to jail) but then proceeds to go back on that notion again.
The constant changing sides in such small time frames (yes her constant changing sides, 4 times, were done within a weak) isnt really belieable and just a sign of bad writing.

11:01 as a guy, I don't mind a female protagonist. Rey could've been so much cooler instead of so unrealistic. Of course, realistic in a Star Wars universe is relative, but she was just too much.
Heck, I would have loved to see a series on Mara Jade. Leia Organa dealing with the courtship? We have Star Wars Legacy books with strong female protagonists that aren't making their gender or race their identity. Jana Solo falling in love, being part of a hive mind, and then killing her brother because Jacen was too based?
They could've have filmed the entire Yuuzhan Vong series and it would've made them billions. Easily able to turn that into a 10 year project. Heck, throw in a filler season with the Joiners. This is what makes me so sad. This makes me wonder why they didn't go ahead with the Legacy books? I've talked with people who didn't like that Chewbacca died in the first book. Instead we get Han Solo killed.

One bad choice, in the heat of the moment, I can understand but it's like everyone on the show as been set to dumb. Any sort of training, or logic, or basic common sense are thrown out the window and dumb is left to rule the day just so the story can advance to the next scene.

In the prequels Yoda is training a group of student when Obi Wan visits him in Episode 2 so we can assume Obi Wan went through a similar experience.

Most do not know or understand the stigma there was being a star wars fan just 15 to 20 years ago. Carrying around EU books, reading them in class, or wearing SW shirts would cause people to make fun of you and call you names you can no longer say. It was like this for most of nerd culture and caused many of us to feel alienated from our peers, especially in school. Now everyone pretends like they always thought was always cool. My grandpa showed me SW on VHS when i was 9 and it changed my life. Every time I watch or read I think of him. We spoke about lessons and deeper meanings in the films and books which was so important to me.
There is no such stigma around SW anymore and everyone pretends nerd culture has always been popular. The stigma now is with those who say wait this doesnt make sense or the writing is bad. SW has always been diverse and representative and no one thought about it that way exclusively, its weird now. Going back to the EU books and films and The Old Republic. A ton on them center around wonderfully written female characters. Heck, even the earliest book on the timeline occuring in 25,000 BBY is about a women. Its bizarre that ALL of this is ignored and instead we're still called names despite how much many of us want to love it desperately.
Ive read almost all the high republic books now including scripts and comic books and some of it is great and has all the "modern stuff" also. Even the Cults that are centered around much of the Phase II stuff is much better written than this. When you read them or listen to an interview with the writers it is aparent who loves SW and who doesnt as that often reflects the quality of the books. Im really trying with it and some is great while other parts, not so much.
Anyway, I have so much more I wanna say and have been silent about but its hard to talk to anyone about SW in general anymore without being harassed for simple opinions. I love SW so much. I will continue to love SW and try to enjoy what is good about it. I just picked up Darth Maul Black White and Red 3 that came out wednesday and its great. I also picked up the latest High Republic comic about a female Jedi named Ty Yorrick and I like her a lot especially in the book The Rising Storm. So much more to say but I'll leave it there..
Feel free to respond to this with your SW stories or thoughts. Thanks Star Wars Theory for your content been enjoying your theories since The Force Awakens on various channels. Many of you made me realize there were many of you with similar experiences and I thank you all for that.
Peace. Love. Keep the discussion civil. And May the Force be with You All.

I don't know. I mean, if lifespans are the same as humans, and with similar average--mixed with obviously better medical care, and the force--who knows, maybe the darker side of Ki Adi, is shooting up Bacta on his downtime. Even in real life, you're getting people living passed 100 like it's nothing now. The oldest recorded in human history so far was Jeanne Calment of France, at 122.
Maybe it's another reason for him being old and senile, just sitting on the council and not giving a crap, and totally forgetting about this period of his life. That's all a stretch, though.

  • @yung_bonsai

It isn't about whether the character is male or female. It just matters how well it's written. Look at Blue Eye Samurai. That show was AWESOME, and it actually handled some social justice topics with actual nuance and tact and wasn't overtly political (see purple haired bitch from Last Jedi...), and had not one, but TWO strong female protagonists in my opinion, but they were executed in completely different ways. One rejected her gender to try to live as a samurai and learn to fight to get revenge on her creator, while the other utilized her femininity and intellect/cunning to claw back any morsel of power and agency she could get her hands on while still operating within the restrictions of an era where women were treated as property to be married off. Yes, them being female was a pretty big part of the story, but the action was on point, the plot was on point, and the characters were WELL WRITTEN and didn't just go around acting as if their previous actions in the story meant absolutely nothing. It didn't feel like a shitty communist propaganda film or something. It felt like the character's motives and actions were justified, and they weren't some fucking chosen one Mary Sue with random shit just happening to them. There was build up and pay-off, foreshadowing, character flaws, etc. and it all MADE SENSE instead of it feeling like the characters were female just to meet some diversity quota.

I grew up watching the originals once a year on TV, but was too young to really understand them, then the phantom menace came out when I was 10 and i absolutely loved it. I owned it on Home Video, and as kids often did back then i basically watched it on repeat, over and over again for years.
I had to deal with older Kids, who grew up with the originals, shitting on the prequals. I saw kids my own age, who originally liked them just like i did, change their opinion because they thought it would somehow make them cool like the older kids.
Only a minority of us really stuck to our opinion and we had to defend the prequals to everybody... Jaa Jaa this, Pod Race that, Politics boring. Then episode 2 came out, and people quietened down a bit, then episode 3 came out, and people went crazy.
You still had those older kids, now grown up, that still hating on them. Plus some of the hate trenders who had long since convinced themselves they never liked them. BUT you also had many of the people who pretended that they hated them, just to seem cool, were older now and could admit that they liked them and join in on the hype.
Of course those individuals acted like they always stuck to their guns, when really they let themselves be led, but who cares, they were nerdy kids just trying to fit in.
Starwars fans in general were nerds, before that was trendy or hip, anything but. we were "cool" or "uncool" within our own circles, but to the outside world we were just comicon nerds, before comicon was a thing.
Starwars was for us, it was ours, i don't care if you're a boy, girl, black, white, purple, green, a starfish, or a gelatinous blob. It was George Lucas's gift to us, The Starwars Fans, The Star trek Fans, the Stargate fans, the dweebs, the geeks, the nerds, the kids with lisps, and social anxiety, the socially awkward kids.
Starwars was our refuge, it was our safe space. AND THE ABSOLUTE HIDE of these people to call us every derogatory name under the sun, call us toxic, for defending the franchise that I'm sure many of us could even go so far as to say literally saved our lives.
Its disgusting, these people who have taken over starwars and filled it with their own political dogma, moronic ideology, turning it into nothing more than obnoxious propaganda, regurgitated into one IP after the other.
The Terminator, Ghost Busters, Indiana Jones, Marvel Comics, Magic the Gathering, Dungeons and Dragons. You name it and they have infected it and twisted it into this hateful racist DEI nightmare. Nothing is sacred to these people.
Anyone defending this kind of trash, should be ashamed of themselves. We nerds had to go through so much BS and too much discrimination, degradation and abuse, for you to just waltze in like you own the place, only to shyt on everything that we loved.
And worst of all, we welcomed you fckers in with open arms, why? because we actually cared about other people, didn't want anyone to feel excluded, or alone, because we had been there our entire lives. Sure come in, sit by the fire, i think its cool that you like XYZ thing you're to ashamed to tell others at school, because they will pick on you for it. Want to play Warhammer, I'll even lend you my other army.
You wormed your way in like a fucking parasite, and now entire fandoms are left in ruins. Honestly fck all of you, you decrepit, rancid, human beings. I hope you have something you love taken away from you and destroyed right in front of your eyes, then when you complain about it, people tell you to grow up and get over it.

This hits me on a deep level. Star Wars is tied into my family and wouldn't exist today to be ruined by Disney. If it was just written well, I'd accept and enjoy any show and cast. I haven't watched it at all. I'm pushing 50 and never will again. I was told that it wasn't made for me. They did the same with Dr. Who. I was born a white man. Why am I hated by Disney? I had a decades old DVC membership that my entire family dumped. I enjoyed Ashoka, I love that character. Clone Wars, Rebels, A new hope! Strong female leads that made the lore so much richer. Disney needs to stop spewing hate. Write good stories, and we, the fans, will be there.

The funny thing is that I just had some call me an incel for bringing up tangible problems with the storytelling. Not bringing up any of those right wing buzzwords. Just looking at dialogue and scene progression and narrative decisions. The people defending the show are so brainwashed that they just assume anyone who doesn’t like it is a bigot and there are no legitimate criticisms on how the show was executed. If that mentality continues to drive how this franchise is run, I don’t know if there is any saving it.

I am a mathematical physicist and I have also studied philosophy. Arguing that fans who hate on Acolyte do so because they hate women, is a textbook example of a strawman argument. They are purposefully misrepresenting our position on the matter in way that makes it easier for them to dispute and ague against our position. It is an extremely common argumentative fallacy. At first, I thought Mae was a terribly-written character but the more I consider it; The flip-flopping, contradiction, mood swinging from love to wanting to kill, running away every time trouble comes, denying her responsibility and blaming everyone else, and now the trickery to pretend she's someone she isn't...
This may be the most accurate portrayal of a woman ever. 😂

Rouge One had a lead female character and I had a great time watching it. So to say that fans like myself don’t like the show because the lead is female is mostly false. There will always be a very small group of haters that just hate because they can. I just want a good fun story with great action and make sense with its lore. I don’t care what or who the mc is. MC could be a dog from Mars of all I care. I just want a good story. Tho making a dog Jedi might be hard to sell…..are there dog Jedi/alien/sith?

I didn’t mind the first two episodes it’s when we got 2 extra babies born by the force that push me over the edge. If they just didn’t bother with the lore already put in place I’d be fine. A quick fix is the witches seduce and kill Jedi men when they done receiving “Jedi seed” and dispose of all male births. If they hate men go dark with it. And that’s why ocea didn’t wanna become a witch after seeing that transpire. Instead trying to have Kate and Edith too.

Plenty of Jedi actually do die during this era in the High Republic novels due to the Nihil. The Nihil are basically marauders furious at the Republic trying to expand their territory and have resorted to extremist style tactics. They can easily use the Nihil as an out for the deaths, and as long as Ki Adi Mundi isn't a firsthand witness, it doesn't actually matter.

If people were aloud to not like things they don’t like, it would be way less toxic. The toxicity mainly spews out when people or a group of people are told they can’t not like something, then the opposite side say “we need to get rid of this toxicity” and it’s just a never ending cycle. Allowing people more freedom to think what they want will reduce the overall toxicity people face in life. Whereas the opposite side think they can just completely get rid of it which is impossible.
