If only I'd had you as my shop teacher in 1965, instead of 'Whacker Wright' who always had a piece of half inch square rod to 'Wack' you on the arse with, I might have actually been able to make a decent dovetail joint!! 😅😅😅 I haven't been game to try to make one since. Thank you Paul. It is so simple and elegant. 👏👏
Great idea. I only cut dovetails occasionally but have found your videos very helpful in achieving accuracy. This is one of the simplest ideas, and one of the best. Thank you.
Thanks Paul. This past Christmas I made a number of boxes of the same size. I tried ganging up to cut the dovetails to "speed" things up and was disappointed with the results. I will keep this in mind on future projects where I want a set box size for rapid duplication. I really like the elegant simplicity of this as well as your recent end grain shooting board.
"Guide us not wearing out unless I waggle the saw around a whole lot" I have never before today heard someone use the word "waggle", and I must say, it had me crying laughing! 🤣🤣 Thank you for the unexpected but surely welcomed vocabulary lesson Paul😊😂 And this goes without saying but I'll continue to do so, THANK YOU GOOD SIR for sharing, teaching, and passing on your in depth/large knowledge of the awesome craft that is woodworking. Since I started just a year ago, you have been one of,if not THE biggest inspiration of mine. Thank you for everything Paul! Edit.... I cannot wait to try this cool looking guide method, it looks wicked neat haha
Paul.... Just confirming... though you could offset the guide for each different board width it's probably best to make a separate jig for each board width. Correct? Your thoughts?
As a complete beginner i noticed you used a dovetail guide to make your dovetail guide, im so confused... also what is the function of the sacrificial peice of wood? Is it just easier to cut square across two rather than the one?
He has videos from a few years ago showing how to make the smaller dovetail guide that he uses to mark out the lines to make this guide! The other piece of wood just allows you to mark a longer line to align the saw with, making it easier to see that the saw is square to the wood.
I hate your vid's, Paul. Not really! You always make me ask "Why on Earth didn't I think of that?" Thanks for constantly reminding me that every day is a school day.
Of the hundreds of dovetail videos on YT, this is probably one of the best. Bravo, Mr. Sellers.

Yet again such a simple idea, but brilliant at the same time. And the next time I have multiple dovetails to cut I will use this method. Thanks Paul
wow this must be the first time i seen someone make a jig for hand tool woodworking :) simple yet supper efective
What a great shortcut. Cheers, Paul.
There's no other like you Paul. I learn so much from you in my journey. Thank you so much!
So simple. Just lovely.
Thank you Mr. Sellers for sharing your years of experience.
Mr Sellers you are a genius! I can't wait to try this. Thank you.
As always your methods and teachings are far superior to those who follow in your wake thanks for sharing Mr Sellers.
I'm new to making dovetails and this will be a great help!! Thanks

Awesome tips! I really like the “backer board”, so ingenious, so accurate, and so repeatable!

clever, simple, and quick. I will definitely use this.
Oh, now THAT is clever!
Simple, but ingenious. Another great video, sir.
I was wondering at first what was going on, then he slid the drawer side DOWN, and WOW! It all made sense!!
That is a brilliant idea, I need to try that. Thanks Mr. Sellers.
That's brilliant, Paul! Thank you!

Very useful information. Thanks for sharing.
Fabulous!

This is a great tip.
I’ve been using a magnetic guide for dovetails the past couple years but this trick looks way faster even for one box. 🎉
Brilliantl thank you!
nice practical jig. if only i could saw straight when making one :)
Pretty cool, thanks
That’s brilliant 👍👍
Thank you
Genius!
Amazing!
If you make that guide make sure to mark which side is supposed to be the face and which is back for when you cuts aren’t exactly equidistant.
Awesome
Fantastic thanks
That's nice.
Thanks

Quite invaluable information indeed. Thank you. Now, how about a video showing how to make a dovetail guide? 🤔
Do you mean like Paul's "How to make Dovetail Templates" video from 3 years ago?

What is the advantage of that horizontal backer board. Why not identical vertical board and get two guides?
Don't you need a separate guide for the tails?
That's just brilliant, Paul! Thanks a bunch!!! 😃
Just one question, how much degrees do you use? 6 or 8?
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
He uses a 1:7 ratio. 8 degrees.
@@Mr_Rick Thank you! 🖖😊
Did anyone ever win that router plane?
