  • Polaroid Pete is the cancelled and unreleased English version of the weird, cult Japanese game “Gekibo: Gekisha Boy 2” by Irem Software Engineering, released in Japan in 2001 for Playstation 2. Its European publisher (JVC Music Europe) closed down before they were able to print and release the game, but review copies were already sent to gaming magazines and websites. This English PAL edition of the game was considered vaporware for many years, until recently when a collector found one of these reviews copies.
Finally we have a proof of its existence, and this review copy is currently on sale on eBay: www.ebay.com/i...
The game was preserved online on Archive.org thanks to Alon Faifer: archive.org/de...

Now all I can do is wait, silently hoping the game is bought by someone willing to dump and preserve it.

@@noone-rl8rx 👍 Currently playing the original (on an RG351P) and liking it a lot (shame it's so short but the short ride it lasts is a lot of fun). Don't have a good enough handheld to emulate PS2 presently but this will be on the shortlist once I do.

It's quite awesome a copy of this game was finally found, it was still unconfirmed it really existed until a few days ago :O Even if the japanese version is easily playable, it's sad the PAL version was never officially released.

    I’ve tested the prototype.
Runs Perfectly with Openloader and IDE HDD. For those wondering, like i did, if it is the complete game or just a few levels demo, the game seems complete, exactly like the japanese version, except that the few japanese texts and menus have all been tranlated.
Unfortunately, it runs in a very badly optimised 50Hz, the black borders are huge on this one… BUT, you can use GSM integrated in Openloader to make it full screen (NTSC, let’s say -44 for the x value, and no need to bypass intro)
The game is really out of the ordinary, quite fun, but you will have to do the same levels over and over to understand where and when to shoot, use flash, use zoom, etc… you must have a good knowledge of the levels events and memorize everything.

Okay, what even IS this game? You play as a creepy photographer who keeps going to the right and take photos of everything interesting, and avoid touching bad things, but what's with all the insanity?
Also, did this come out in arcades first? It would seem to fit there.
I sorta see why Polaroid's on board with this, though.
