1) Yes, the language in Ireland is called Irish not Gaelic. Gaelic/Goidelic is a family of languages that includes Irish. 2) Ian is the Scottish Gaelic form of John. The Irish version of John is Sean
You're wrong. The term “Gaelic”, as a language, applies only to the language of Scotland. If you're not in Ireland, it is permissible to refer to the language as Irish Gaelic to differentiate it from Scottish Gaelic, but when you're in the Emerald Isle, simply refer to the language as either Irish or its native name, Gaeilge.

that poor person who told you its not called Gaelic 💀 I'm Irish, its called Irish. In Irish, it's called Gaeilge. Gaelic is the root language for ALL celtic languages. Scottish, Welsh, Irish. If you call Irish Gaelic, it's a huge generalisation and very incorrect
Not exactly, Celtic is the language family, Gaelic is all the Goidelic branch languages - Gaeilge, Gàidhlig, Gaelg (Irish, Scottish Gaelic, Manx.) Personally I think people get too pressed about what people say in English - Dè an diofar dè chanas luchd na Beurla haha?
This is interesting. I have an Irish uncle who told me that he learned Gaelic in school. He is a little older, so maybe it's a difference in generation? Or maybe he learned Gaelic as in the root language?
Omg the sisters bulling about eyebrows is so real. I remember my sisters making fun of me as a kid about my thick eyebrow, and i shaved down the middle, and my hand slipped. I drew the one i shaved back, we went swimming that day and it washed off. I ran home crying because of my siblings laughing at me.
20 yr old here - “having” smosh and watching the evolution since i was a literal baby was. an experience. in terms of authenticity, seeing the team that’s settled into smosh has personally been really important. and yes, super gross and unbearable time in our young-people-lives, but you guys have been a pretty big beam of wholesome, respectful, genuine light. examples of non-toxic, forgiving friendships are needed more than ever before.
Linguist fan here! Gaelic as a term tends to be used very broadly to refer to the northern celtic languages: scottish, irish, manx. Altho more precise language would be Gaelic = Scottish Gaeilge = Irish (being pronounced gway-liga) For fun, other celtic languages include: Welsh (the most widely spoken) Cornish Breton (the one in france) And one could potentially include Scots as well. But the question of Gaelic/English mix language vs dialect comes in .
In Scotland, Scots is one of the three official languages with Gaelic and English. It’s a sister language of English rather than a Celtic language. Obviously there are Celtic influences on other languages in Celtic countries.

This. I saw someone say that the reason teens/young people don't dance as much at parties is because everyone has a phone and one "awkward" dance move might end up viral instead of making you a bit bullied by the people there. That made me sad, even as someone who never had a party phase.
Amanda is so real for talking about her eyebrow mishap! I had a similar situation my freshman year of high school …i had to draw in half my left eyebrow for MONTHS

In Ireland we speak Irish or Gaeilge (gail-guh). The Irish for John is Séan. The Irish for Ian is Éoin (Owen). I think Ian is the Scottish Gaelic for John!
When I lived in Ireland we took “Irish” class at school and everyone referred to the language as Irish . People only tried to correct me by saying Gaelic when I moved to the states.
Apparently the English started using the word "Gaelic" for the Irish language in the 1770s and I guess it permeated through the colonies (Australian here, never knew that Irish people didn't call it Gaelic until I read a book by Bono lol)

Me 7 weeks postpartum, definitely not on my pregnancy quest anytime soon 😂😂😂
Congrats! 🎉 Babies are exhausting. ❤
Alright, the parents are here.. party's over.
SOMEBODY HIDE THE BEER
Papa Anthony isn't here though, hopefully he didn't go buy sigarettes again
that poor person who told you its not called Gaelic 💀 I'm Irish, its called Irish. In Irish, it's called Gaeilge. Gaelic is the root language for ALL celtic languages. Scottish, Welsh, Irish. If you call Irish Gaelic, it's a huge generalisation and very incorrect
yup. it'd be like calling spanish "romance," or english "west-germanic," it's the right family but not specific enough
Thank you fellow Irish person this always annoys me too
That's just wrong though. It's Celtic>Gaelic, not Gaelic>Celtic.
As a fifteen year old I grew up on Smosh and I’m so glad to see them survive the Defy Era and become independent again
Ian saying _Ghost Dog_ is the ultimate Chosen movie is so accurate, it blew my mind.
15:20 PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE IM BEGGING YOU, MAKE AMANDA PLAY PT!!!!
the fact that I'm one month older than Smosh is crazy 🤭🤭 HAPPY BIRTHDAY SMOSH! 🎉🎉🎉
Smosh is probably the only channel who has survived a 19-year subscription
Amanda experienced the infamous “boyfriend at 19”
It truly is recognized as a girls worst break up😭
20 yr old here - “having” smosh and watching the evolution since i was a literal baby was. an experience. in terms of authenticity, seeing the team that’s settled into smosh has personally been really important. and yes, super gross and unbearable time in our young-people-lives, but you guys have been a pretty big beam of wholesome, respectful, genuine light. examples of non-toxic, forgiving friendships are needed more than ever before.
1:56 It would be hilarious if future episodes have us slowly learn where every person at Smosh stands on this key issue
Linguist fan here!
Gaelic as a term tends to be used very broadly to refer to the northern celtic languages: scottish, irish, manx.
Altho more precise language would be
Gaelic = Scottish
Gaeilge = Irish (being pronounced gway-liga)
For fun, other celtic languages include:
Welsh (the most widely spoken)
Cornish
Breton (the one in france)
And one could potentially include Scots as well. But the question of Gaelic/English mix language vs dialect comes in .
This was my learned-something-new-today for today. Thanks!
YAY WALES/WELSH MENTION 💕
Diolch yn fawr! ❤
Isn't Galician considered a Celtic language?
Ulster Scots isn't a language, as someone from Ulster I refuse to give it any recognition, it's a good awful dialect if anything
In Scotland, Scots is one of the three official languages with Gaelic and English. It’s a sister language of English rather than a Celtic language. Obviously there are Celtic influences on other languages in Celtic countries.
this trio was actually so good. everyone that comes on is hilarious and so entertaining but this episode is actually one of my favs ever
Shayne , Amanda , Ian . Thank you so much for making us laugh for years , that is so special and amazing . Genuinely , Smosh is one of the main sources of joy in my life especially at these last 11 months . Thank youuuuuuuuuu 🫶🫶🫶🥹
Going through fashion blunders in your teen years is a must. I have physical blackmail that I pray never comes to the surface😂
I forget sometimes how slow information got around back then because my town didn’t find out about TH-cam until 2008 lol
Ian my heart truly goes out to you with those celebrity prank videos
I turn 19 in 2 weeks which makes me feel so weird that this is my favorite Chanel on TH-cam 😭
I love when they talk about Love is Blind lol. Feels good to know there are other people out there who watch it ironically lol
Amanda reading all the disclaimers in the Mint Mobole ad is absolutely sending me
Another banger from Chumbawumba’s #1 fan
watching this made me realize just how much smosh has been a part of my life growing up.
Happy 19th Anniversary! 🎉
I discovered Smosh on TH-cam back in 2008 when I was around 15.
I remember not fully understanding what they were saying because I’m an Arab, but Ian’s goofiness was always the highlight of the videos for me.
Over the years, I forgot about the channel, but I became a regular viewer again during the pandemic. I was thrilled when Anthony came back, and this podcast has become my favorite part of Smosh content. Sending love from the Middle East. I love you all guys!
35:02 SMOSH IS ACE!! HELL YEAH LETSSSS GO 💜🖤🩶🤍
LET’S GOOOOO!!!!!
Why does that make so much sense 😆
Wuhuuu🎉
Im 30 and remember seeing Smosh around 2006 and then also making my own lipsynching videos as a 12yo or whatever. Some are still on YT which is horrifying lol so glad Smosh is still around ❤
This is the most relatable I've ever seen Amanda, and I love it.
I was 18 in 2005, and some of these experiences are just my life in another flavor😅
Shout to Ian for acknowledging the multiple odd ways you can play DOOM. Calculator Eternal
This episode was amazing 😂😂 loved the unhinged trio energy
In Ireland we speak Irish or Gaeilge (gail-guh). The Irish for John is Séan. The Irish for Ian is Éoin (Owen). I think Ian is the Scottish Gaelic for John!
we finally know amanda’s full name
Amanda andrew lehan canto
When I lived in Ireland we took “Irish” class at school and everyone referred to the language as Irish . People only tried to correct me by saying Gaelic when I moved to the states.
Also there’s a lot of languages within “Gaelic”
Apparently the English started using the word "Gaelic" for the Irish language in the 1770s and I guess it permeated through the colonies (Australian here, never knew that Irish people didn't call it Gaelic until I read a book by Bono lol)
omg Amanda trying to redirect the focus and Ian ignoring her every time, i felt that
being 20 and celebrating smosh’s 19th birthday is a little crazy because I’ve been watching smosh for so much of my life
