    This is my step by step build for the Academy or Airfix 1/35 Panzer 35T tank. Part two takes us through the painting and weathering stage as well as tackling the link & length tracks.
    This is part of my on going series for the Beginners Guide To Armour Modelling where I am building model tanks to showcase some ideas and tips for building, painting, weathering tanks as well as improving some models and adding details.

    The CMK kit was re-boxed by Tamiya in 2012. The Academy kit was all new moldings, but was itself re-boxed by Airfix in 2019. It was issued separately, with appropriate parts added, as a Pz 38(t) command tank as well.
    I've found that Testors liquid or Tamiya's orange-topped glues provide stronger, more flexible joints when assembling link & length tracks.

    Building this kit right now. Great to follow along. That mudscraper think on the rear sprocket is a bastard to fit! Also the jerry cans on the laft rear collide with the turret when it turns. Had to repositions those for it to work.

    I've never seen this kit in the wild. Perhaps, I can find it one day.

    I have a Revell boxing of what I’m sure must be this same kit... half built, you’ve inspired me to get it finished ( I’m usually an aircraft modeller). Good video, I look forward to following you on 2021!

    Loved this vid. You have a great can do attitude.
    Would love to see you do a vid just on paints. What to use where and why, what types can and can't be mixed together, what thinners to use with each and any of your hacks 😉

    Just an unrelated question, how do you store/ display your completed models?

    Just thinking have you tried etch primer on the ally foil for the paint to hold?

    can I ask the commenters, when you guys use washes do you cover the entire vehicle or do you use one of those pin washes?

    Yeah the kits from 1996! Think Academy added link n length tracks I'm sure the cmk had rubber bands! Did the airfix kit have the antenna in the instructions whare it should be mounted etc? Academy's didn't but wasn't a big deal the barrel I changed and jack block for a dragon part periscopes I like to fit later but couldn't on this mine is pretty much all dragon parts haha looks great though

    Is it possible that this tank doesn't even have a scratch on its paint?

    Are the mr color paints used in the video the similar to tamiya “acrylics”.

  • @georgewilson5303

    Did you ever weather with real rust. It takes a little time to get the right technique. But the affects are grat. Don't apply any clear over it or it will chang the color slightly. To make it. Put a stell scrubbing pad in a jar and fill it with vinegar. Let stand out side for a week or two. You will have real rust. It wil be some liquid and some small parts of rusted metal. I tried it and it looks grat.

    Do you think a beginner could build this?

  • @TheNordus
    @TheNordus 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sorry, but this kit is definitely not the CMK kit reboxed. The sprue- and parts layout is different. The Academy kit has much finer detail than the CMK kit, not that the CMK kit is necessarily bad. Also in the earlier part of this series, you made it sound like the later Hungarian tanks were based on the 35(t) chassis, where they only copied the running gear but the vehicles were otherwise completely Hungarian designs. Looks like you did a good job on this build, good job.

    • @ChampionScaleModelling
      @ChampionScaleModelling  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I jumped to that conclusion somewhat, it would have been nice to have the two side by side. I meant the running gear was utilized on the Turan tank not that it used the hull, hope that came across. Thanks for watching 👍

    Trying to find the right hue of Dunkelgrau or "German" Dark Grey is rather useless. The colour evolved from nearly black before the war to a much lighter colour until it was replaced by Dark Yellow in 1942.

    Happy New Year! Thanks for adding a much-needed inspiring dose of creativity & learning to a challenging 2020! Wishing you all the best in 2021. ☺
    p.s. Here's an open-box review of the Bronco version of the Pz. Kpfw. 35(T). It appears that the Bronco kit has a lot of photoetch parts and it may be a rather challenging build for less-experienced modellers.

    hey i see this is another model where you don't apply varnish? I'm trying to stay away from varnish before weathering, just dont know if i should; im about to build my first Tamiya 35378 panzer iv kit. i plan on using tamiya enamel panel liner and abteilung oils.

    • @ChampionScaleModelling
      @ChampionScaleModelling  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So basically the varnish is used on the earlier videos as they’re for beginners and that is a relatively fool proof way to avoid issues, if you’re new to it try a varnish if you feel like you need one. We are talking about gloss coats here to be clear, all the models received a matte coat before weathering, again not something you have to do but it does give a good flat base

    • @MF-kv8cn
      @MF-kv8cn 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ChampionScaleModelling thank you for replying, i really like your channel and you're builds. So the videos of the manchurian t34, the panzer 35t, or the hanomag with the green camo were all matte coated before decals and weathering; just asking in case i misunderstood lol? does a matte varnish before weathering still protect the paint like a semi or full gloss varnish would

    • @ChampionScaleModelling
      @ChampionScaleModelling  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No problem, no, it would go like this (for ease):
      Paint
      Gloss (if you want, no need but some find decals go down better)
      Decals
      Gloss or Matte, some prefer to use washes on a gloss, some don’t. I use a matte at this stage to dull down any shiny points and blend the decals
      Weathering
      Final matte if you want, I don’t but some do

    • @MF-kv8cn
      @MF-kv8cn 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ChampionScaleModelling hey thanks for that write up, i wrote it down in my notes. i was thinking, if i put down a matt coat and do weathering and later cleanup of the surrounding areas, will the surrounding areas not get a lil dirty or discoloured from the stuff that spilled out of the panel lines or rivets? actually never mind on the sturmgeschutz iv you say it can discolour on the surrounding on a matt coat and to avoid it to use a gloss coat. how about a semi-gloss coat, will it avoid discolouring the surrounding areas on a semi?

    Btw, panzerkapfagen 38 (t) was czechoslovakian tank (lehký tank vzor 38) and germans stole It after occupation of Czechoslovakia in 1938/1939

    I don't think I've ever seen a model with bird sh,, stains on it. Trust me it happened a lot, especially in coastal areas.
