Like always I hae enjoyed this video. I watch the Andy Griffith show . I get it on MeTv 5 days a week. I have watch it since it appeared on Tv in 1960. Good family entertaining. I hope you both have a blessed week and rest of year.
Yes, we love The Andy Griffith Show. We are looking forward to attending the Mayberry Days Festival this upcoming weekend. There will be a video to come. Thanks for watching, and we are glad you enjoyed it.
Hi guys, I just found your channel. My husband and I live in Kings Mountain, NC. About an hour from you. I've watched a few of your videos. I've really enjoyed them. We are older so we don't go like we use to. It's nice to be able to see the sights thru your videos.
@craftago Thank you so much for your comment! We appreciate the fact that you let us know that you enjoy our videos. Yes, you are not too far down the road from us. We are very glad that you just found our channel, and we thank you for watching.
I enjoy this video even with the cars! My husband's relatives live in Gastonia, NC and we went Christmas shopping at Valley Hills Mall. I liked Hickory, NC! That day it was quite and peaceful but it was during the day on a Saturday. I always look forward to your next video!
@sherrysullivan1893 Thank you so much for letting us know that you enjoy your videos, and look forward to them. We are glad that you like them. Thanks for watching!
Love the pics at the beginning of your video! Kim would be all over those jalapeno cheesy grits. Great review! Oh...and got our sites reserved in Cades Cove. Thanks, y'all!
Hey love y’all’s videos. Man you’re just a couple miles from our house. Enjoy our home town. Lived here all my life. Literally two miles from my home place just off Startown Road
Hickory -- home of U. of Tennessee basketball coach Rick Barnes! His mother was living there until she passed away in 2021. Barnes jokes about how fast he can make the drive from Hickory to Knoxville. Anyhow, another great report. They need a taste tester on the grits. One of our (and your) favorites in Gatlinburg, Crockett's Breakfast Camp, cooks their grits in chicken broth. So they are going to be good as is. Also, nice shirt, Derrick!
Yes, that is correct....Mr. Barnes is a local. Glad you like the shirt. I'm really liking what I'm seeing on the football field, and what we saw on the baseball diamond this year. Excited for what is to come. I guess the chicken broth would explain the difference in the flavor of the grits. These were just bland. Not bad, but definitely needed something.
Most of my cooking, involves the grill or smoker outside. We have featured cooking on a few occasions when we were in a campground, but haven't generally done much from our own kitchen at home. We appreciate you watching. Have a great day!
I'll try to record the Andy Griffith trivia contest when we go to Mayberry Days. It's amazing, how hard those questions are, and how there are people that can actually answer them.
The Bobby Fleet quote about a beauty contest was from the episode Guitar Player. I'm a big Andy Griffith fan. I want to say thank you for thanking God and professing your faith on camera. Y'all have a blessed weekend.
Thank you for watching, and your kind words. We appreciate your encouraging comment. Yes, when she said it was from the episode "Guitar Player", that's why I immediately thought of Jim Lindsey, because I think that's the episode where he joined the band. On a side note, James Best, who played Jim Lindsey, lived in the Hickory, North Carolina area right up until the time of his passing.
Oh, wow...So many to choose from. I really like the "Man In A Hurry" episode, and I also like "Three's A Crowd", where Barney keeps interfering with Andy's date with Mary. The Christmas episode is also very good.
Great review Derrick and Shawnasi. Derrick your ribs looked wonderful. They looked so tender , I could tell that they fell right off of the bone. I am with you on banana pudding. I am looking forward to your Mayberry Days videos. Derrick you better studybup because i want yo see you up on the stage foe Mayberry Trivia this year. 😊 those cars driving by sure were very noisy. That would have been very distracting for me while i ate. Thanks for another great honest review and for living out and sharing your faith.
Yes, probably the loudest meal I've ever had. But if we go sit inside, we have the loud music to contend with. I'll probably go on a weeknight next time. I hope I can make it to the stage at Mayberry Days, but those are some tough questions. The food here was excellent.
Derrick, honey, you’re showing your age! I bet when you were in your late 20’s those cars wouldn’t have hurt your ears at all - particularly if Shawnassi was sitting up next to you on the seat, lol 😂 We just have to let young people be happy and enjoy themselves and pray they stay safe. Love your videos. 💕🛣️🚘
As loud as they were, I don't know if I would have been able to handle that even when I was young. Maybe so. The microphones helped muffle them some, but we could hear it very loudly. When the waiter was taking our order, somebody went by and did that, and I had to stop because he couldn't hear me. Thank you for watching!
Hugh’s BBQ is a great place to eat. We have eaten there a couple times but not outside. I know will have a blast at Mayberry day! They do a great job finding people that looks and acts just like the characters. Love trivia questions for Andy Griffith!! My favorite!!
We are looking SO forward to Mayberry Days! We had a blast last year. Yes, eating outside here, was extremely noisy. I'm thinking next time, maybe we will go on a weeknight. I tried to enter the Mayberry trivia contest last year, but those questions were VERY hard. I don't know if I'll try this year, or not.
We went to Mt. Airy once but it was during the summer and Mayberry days weren't going on. I'm the same I can recite several episodes word for word. But I wouldn't do good on those trivia questions about license plates. I've never been in an academy sports store. We have one about 50 miles from us. The meat looked really good. You could tell how tender it was. Looking forward to the Mayberry videos.
We are definitely looking forward to Mayberry Days. I have been a fan of that show for a long, long time. But the questions they asked in that trivia contest, were beyond hard. Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for asking about her. Please keep the prayers coming. We were told on Wednesday, that she only had a few days. As of today, she's still here.
The car sounds there bring back memories of my cruising days in Lexington and Winston Salem many years ago. Back when car engines were big and gas was cheap.
Yeah, I don't know how people afford to do that now, with the price of gas. It was really, really loud. I think the microphones helped muffle it some for the video.
Hello! This is Wendy from Maggie Valley! Hopefully we’ll see you on Friday of Mayberry Days. We’ll only be there that day cause my husband, Bill doesn’t want to miss Mountain Heritage Days on Sat. These two events aren’t normally on the same weekend but for some reason they are this year. We’ll be looking for you!
Hey guys! I just had lunch with a friend there Thursday. My first time there. I got the brisket and turkey. It was good. I got the bunkhouse beans as a side and to tell you the truth that was the best thing I had. I also had the slaw and I liked it . The cornbread was too dry. You get a lot of food. I had two meals from the meat. I forgot to say I liked the brisket better than the turkey.
I was curious about those bunkhouse beans. I think they are a mixture of several types of beans? That is great, that you just ate there. I agree with you completely, on the brisket. Shawnasi also thought the cornbread was dry. That was probably her least favorite thing.
@NCMemoryMakers The beans may not be your thing because they do have pieces of cooked onion in them. They have pintos, kidney beans, jalapeños, cumin, and pulled pork. They were delicious. I think I could have made a meal just from them.
@@vapnutWe have eaten there a few times, but it has been years. Way before TH-cam. I used to get the fried chicken. We would stop there when we went to the farmers market.
I have been wanting to go there. I'm from just North of Conover. It's hard to believe any food at a restaurant would need more salt. I'll have to keep that in mind when I visit to Hugh's. Have you been to Apple City BBQ in Taylorsville?
We have not been to the one in Taylorsville, but have heard good things about it. We also have not tried any of the ones down in Lexington. I am not a fan of vinegar-based sauce at all. If you live that close, I would highly recommend trying Hugh's Q. But yes, we felt the cheese grits were a little bland and needed something.

There are several. They are adding another one in Mooresville where the old Sonny’s BBQ was located. It will open the first of next year. It will be worth the wait and much closer. 😊
The meats, yes. Love the brisket at both places. Sonny's still has better bread, since I am very high on their garlic bread. But for plain Texas Toast, this was very, very good. I would give Sonny's the edge on the sides, too.
