With Diary of a Mad Band they cemented their status and DeVante brought that sultry funky R&B sound that still sound dope today. I can listen to Jodeci any day and still feel their music. Funny story. My sister ( now 46 ) was a huge Devante fan. In the early 90s they did a concert at the Louisville gardens. My sister and cousin went. My mom and I went to pick them and waited in front. My sister came out and got in the back seat. Seconds later she started screaming and ran out of the car. Davante walked outside and girls just started running. My mom told me to go get my sister. When I went up to get her, Devante picked me up and continued to sign autographs and take pics ❤

She said that Diary of Mad Band is arguably perfect.. the argument is the back end of that album. Devante hadn't fully left the swing sound behind and those records didn't date well. I actually think their following album is perfect in the sense there aren't any songs to skip on that one
I actually disagree about the back end of Diary Of A Mad Band. You could argue it’s not as pristine as the first half, but most of the songs are still extraordinary in their own right. I personally think ‘Gimme All You Got’ is an under appreciated record. Production is amazing all throughout.
