I really like how Bowie never gets the chance to finish the lyric. It results in a lack of closure, similar to how Sophie never quite found closure with her father after this being the last time they saw each other. She could never understand what happened after that trip, why she never saw him again, or the pressures and suffering he was going through at the time since she was too young to understand. A really nuanced and effective detail

      Spoilers
I believe it's implied Sophie knows why she never saw Calum again. He commited suicide after their vacation. The lack of closure comes from how that was the point she realized that her father was never who she thought he was and how she's trying to put the pieces as to try and understand why he would do such a thing.
Still, I never saw that cut in the lyric as that and I agree with what you said there!

I never took that away from the film, neather that she never saw her dad again. Im sure didnt see each other often enough but im curious what made you think that this trip was the last time they ever saw each other

@@jakobweber3754 brother. I guess, you might not be prepared for this. But, he dies, by suicide. He was suffering from depression. That's why he was learning Tai Chi and reading meditation books. He cries and doesn't care if he is bleeding. He even claims he has no plans to reach the age of 40. When his daughter sings Happy Birthday, he is not happy. He is aware, it's probably his last. And the movie is how an older Sophie, shown in the end, is trying to reminisce what she missed in her dad's behaviour. He died not long after the trip. It's her last memory of him. In this song, while the young Sophie hugs him, the older Sophie is struggling to grab her father as he constantly pushes her away. Because he is gone. She is unable to grasp what happened to him and that's what the scene represents. It was a side of her dad she missed because she was just a kid. It's heartbreaking to the core.

@@AbhishekSharmaMoviePool there are multiple interpretations you can take from the film. Everyone I've spoken to has had a different interpretation. The ambiguity is the point. In an interview, the director, Charlotte Wells revealed that she actually hand drew a map of sorts showing during which points of the song, she wanted an emphasis on the strings or the vocals. What results is a beautiful push and pull not only of the vcoals, but also of the father daughter relationship! One of my favourite ending of any film!

This is a perfect example for how sound/music could be an intrinsic part of the aesthetics of a film rather than merely a secondary/supporting element. the dialogue it enters with the plot, the deconstruction of a rock classic, rearranging it, adding more layers, more contrasts, a crescendo of diverse emotions… let us float in space or fall down into the abyys with the protagonist, and in the end hit the ground with bowie!! Oliver Coates' contribution to this film and this particular scene as a masterpiece cannot be stressed enough. many of us will keep this moment dearly in our hearts forever. Thank you!

Suicide rate for depressed men is 7%
For depressed women it's only 1%
It's tougher for men to deal with depression because society expects them to be strong.
Callum probably didn't have anyone other than his daughter (divorced and from a dysfunctional family) and he was sure that as Sophie grew up and started to see him for the "failure" that he is, he would lose her too. But in reality, there's nothing that would let her down more than his suicide.
Your kids don't need you to be strong. They need you to stick around and to love them. That's the least you can provide.
The frustration we feel with Callum's decision must be a very good way of giving perspective to people with suicidal thoughts (especially parents).

I don't know if you're the guy who arranged this but if you are, thank you. You helped create one of the most powerful scenes I've seen in a movie in a long time. I think I'm forever altered in ways that I can't express. I walked around for 40 minutes after watching the movie thinking about my life and my relationship with my parents. I remember thinking something that was profound, "sometimes all you can do is say I love you and really mean it".

This film is like feeling a rumbling for the whole run time, unsure of what you're feeling, until the volcano erupts during this scene, and it all becomes too clear what that intuition was whispering through the tremors. Utterly devastating and powerful film of the finest art.

This ending captivated me just as much as requiem for a dream did. Kept me thinking about it for days. Thinking bout how my mama did her best knowing it wasn't easy for her. Very relatable movie even though my mom wasn't depressed at all. It just made me think about the hard times knowing there was beauty in it too.

This song is a rollercoaster of emotions for me. But, the fact that that line is cut right in the middle and its like, "this is our last dance"... I need more. Everytime I listen to this is like i think about Freddie and David, and the fictional characters of the movie, and me, and my father who now, ten years after his death I begin to understand him why he did what he did. It's just.. a lot. A lot of feels, and a lot of tears my friends. Oliver, you're a genius. Thank you.

This version is so powerful and heartbreaking, I love it so much... when I go to my godfather's chemo sessions, to make him company, this song plays in my head, very loud and strong, like it's telling me to enjoy the little moments I have left with him. It breaks me every time, and I think this song will remind me of him, even when he eventually gets out of this. Thank you for making this OST, the movie wouldn't be the same without it.

I remember seeing this, completely stumped and stuck in my chair at the cinema, and somehow recalling the last summer before the divorce of my fathers. When you grow in pain, it's very difficult to take care of others, because you are inclined to cause pain, to hurt others and yourself. Guys, we can learn to be better -- we need to be better. I needed to search the fucking song because now I can't get it out of my head.

Thank you so much for uploading this version of the song, it really powerful message. i have heard UNDER PRESSURE like a thousands of times for with this movie, it really change the meaning of the lyrics, Specially on the verse: LOVES DARES YOU TO CARE FOR THE PEOPLE ON THE EDGE OF THE NIGHT.
