Ordered my first Tsumura bar from Bob King and put it on my new CS2511P and the chain fixed up as you explained. Now just to get the tension right..seems like it needs to be alot looser than on my Oregon dime tip bars...got a small burn spot on the tip (looks like no lose of metal integrity), but loosening the chain even more seems to do the trick. I am new to chainsaw carving since this Summer, and learning alot. Thanks a million!! Love your channel.
Great review and tutorial! I use the Tsumura bars too, I love the small 9" one, it cuts like a knife through butter.Also worth mentioning, these bars are very lightweight (compared to e.g. Cannons) and thus easier to handle on a long day of carving :-)

I use Stihl bio oil at the moment but any mineral oil is good too. Some use canola but you need to keep an eye on it if you aren’t using a saw for a while as it can gunk up and block the oiler.

I'm running a ms271 to rough out and thinking of picking up a small saw to do detail, looking at a ms194c-e with maybe a 12" or 14" dime tip bar. Any thoughts on adding that as a second saw for detail or is there a better option I'm missing
The ms194 is a good little detail saw, I would recommend a 12" fine tip for good balance. The ms151 is smaller but incredibly light, so would be great with a 12" 043 gauge bar.
I use Stihl bio oil at the moment. I've used numerous types, the key thing is to make sure it can cope with high temperatures. Some people use canola oil, but be aware of you have some saws that don't get as much use as it can solidify or go thick when it's left standing.

what is the different gauge 0.043 Vs 0.050 for carving ? Is it 0.050 gauge chains not easily snap ? Any ideas ?

Yes they do, they create compatible fittings.

pete w I'd recommend a small stihl like the MS180. a sugihara 12" dime tip from chainsawbars.co.uk is the cheapest bar or there at the moment.

Yes it does. The smaller the tip the more you need to grind off generally

Stihl do a ready modified RMS 1/4 050 gauge chain but not for 1/4 043 gauge. I think they ought to start producing it if they're doing carving bars!
