I was born and have lived in the Lakes all my life, retired now. Thankfully I don't live in among the crazy touristy areas, and quite honestly, I just avoid them like the plague. When I want my Lake District "fix", I head for one of the villages or areas away from the tourist trail..... One village in particular I often visit, was a favourite of the famous Lakeland Guidebook writer, Alfred Wainwright. He almost bought a house there before eventually settling for a bungalow just outside Kendal, where he worked as the Local Council's Treasurer at that time.... It's a lovely village too, with a pub, a church, a nice little cafe, a chocolate factory, a vilage store, and a farmer's market every Month.

Great vid/vlog from you both, that was an expensive round :) - tell ya what though, that flat cap would suit James more (suits you sir) - Grasmere looks nice, bet that gingerbread smell was nice in the daffodil gardens but the fish and chip small must have been better in the other place :) I see your graveyard hobby has not left you both and a bargain fleece is always good for winter (winter is coming) - by the way, not sure i am correct but, the proper Cornish pastie had both the main pastie and a end where there was a sweet (i think maybe apple) part so the workers had both a main meal and a desert... not sure i am correct with that :) I love you both, your vids are awesome.... keep it up and, again from you number 1 fan. watched from the beginning - Alec :)

@@travelandlaughs9281 The secret to Scotland is to keep going North, especially North West. I'm sure you may want to see Edinburgh, or Stirling Castle or the Wallace Monument, but if you like the outdoors head past Loch Lomond, through Glencoe, and just keep going North. Try Plockton, go to Applecross via the Bealach na Ba, Torridon, up to Ullapool, Assynt and beyond! OR go to Skye and get the ferry to Harris & Lewis and get the ferry back across to Ullapool. Tbf to do it all properly and take your time you will need months but if you are only there for a week or 2 then just take your pick!

Agree re Grasmere. Good walk(s) from Ambleside and a pint in Grasmere at Tweedies (pub round back) then walk or bus back is best way to see Grasmere. Assume you've tried Keswick. You should have bought a Croissant. 18:49
Although that is just a pasty without the meat. 😝😝😝😝
Here's a bit of useless information for those who don't know?
The pasty with the curly pastry round the edge were made like that for the miners in Cornwall mining for tin and stuff down the mines.
The idea was that they hold the pasty by the curly part so they are not touching the part they are eating with the filling in and their dirty hands only touching the curly part.
They would only eat the middle part and throw away the curly part.
aannndddd.... Their wives even made them a pasty which had the potato/meat/veg on one side of the pasty, and separated by pastry, they would put something like apple filling in the other end, so they had a pie and a pudding in one pasty.
And again, they would throw away the curly part that they touched with their dirty hands.

There is a beautiful place up the west Cumbrian coast called Silloth. Its a place you would love especially in the summer. Its never busy but has great scenery and history. You can almost throw a stone over to Scotland it's that close. Has a victorian feel to it. Parking is not an issue. Their is an old ww2 airfield close by that used Wellington bombers and American bombers probably because of its out of the way location away from the main bombing sites.
It's a beautiful not often travelled part of England North of Maryport. Its a perfect quiet route and in summer the sunsets are Mediterranean like. I've cycled from the border twice down that coastline and it is a living picture of beautiful scenery.

As far as parking is concerned go to the garden centre car park in the centre of Grasmere. Enter the garden centre from the car park entrance and browse inside of course if you want to, otherwise walk straight through and out the front entrance to roam the village.

That's Nowt! It's practically empty compared to when I went in July. July was full of coach parties of school kids hundreds of them. Also because there was a nationwide £2 per bus journey regardless of the milage the lakes where packed. You wouldn't have liked it if you think it's busy in your vid.

We have just had a break in Wensleydale, Hawes was quite quiet as it was just before the schools finished for the holidays. Things aren’t so expensive there either. I’d spend my time exploring and walking between pubs but my other half isn’t a fan of walking a great distance. I love the lakes, been to Ambleside and Windermere around Christmas as well as summer breaks and it’s a lot busier and hectic, prices suit the wealthy discerning tourists. Always good to come home to our own pub and a decent pint though.

Hawes quite quiet? You obviously didn't go on a Tuesday - market day........ When in Hawes, a visit to the Creamery (cheese factory) is a must. Lots of places to get good grub. I recommend the steak pie & chips at the Chippie just down from the public loos, or the cafe up the stairs, right next door to the Spar shop - lots of choice on the menu there. It'll take you 10 minutes to decide what to have! My fave there is the cheese & onion quiche, served with red onion chutney. Really nice! And if you're in Hawes, you are just 20 minutes or so from Askrigg, where the original 1970's series of All Creatures Great & Small was filmed.... Askrigg is a really charming village, and is well worth a stop-off. The food at the Crown Inn at Askrigg is off the scale!! Their steak pie could win an award.....The sign over the bar is worth a mention. it says "We will not judge you on race, skin colour, size, height, weight, sexual orientation or religion. We will base our judgement entirely on whether or not you are a tw@t"..... That's Yorkshire humour for you.

Agree since I moved to Blackpool all I get down my throat is people saying you must go up to the Lake district. When I did go up there I found it grim ,bleak and depressing.I suppose if you grew up in a city like you are going to love the Lakes as where I grew up in lovely area.Don,t understand why people say ther lakes is the best countryside in england,I ve seen much nicer places.

Well, everything you moaned about was of course what you were also doing………….the Lakes expensive? Who’d have thought?! ……. queuing in a tourist haunt?! You two could visit anytime so why go now?????? Lol you do make me smile even chuckle!! The Lakes are just about walking, spending and learning. Did I mention spending?!?! Get a good camera, as much to capture on stills, which are memories for you both ☺️
Why were you in a rush to get back?
They were not traditional pasties as they flat and not sit up style!! Ambleside is very much the better of the two places. Windermere is of course all about the lake, so if not your thing then stay in Ambleside!!
