not really, that was a sign for US that corazon died. the barrier doesn't let sound pass through it, so law could hear himself even before corazon was shot. law knew corazon died when he heard the canons from the war ships
I love how this flashback makes the fight between Vergo and Law in Punk Hazard all the more meaningful.

I think the message that Oda trying to send to us from Doffy/Corazon backstory that your past is not justification for your evil action , Doffy and Corazon had the same past but Doffy chose to handle it so much difrent than Corazon ..

@@davgg9621 That may be true but you could clearly see the difference in the two even before they met their respective benefactors. Doflamingo was always more Celastial Dragon-ish than Rosinante.

Corazon treated the kids badly, since he was trying to discourage them from joining Doflamingo's crime family. He doesn't like hurting kids, but he felt he had to abuse them as a form of tough love.
He thought they'd eventually get tired of being beat by him, and that they'd eventually leave. He was wrong, but he really did try to save Baby 5 and Buffalo, too.
Save them from what exactly? they were kids who did not have anything in the world anymore, and doflamingo gave them a family and well-being, you think that baby 5 or Buffalo would have had a better life than they had in Dressrosa living in a palace with all the comforts of the world and with a family? I don't think so.
They're still a part of the largest crime syndicate in the world. Rosinate was merely trying to keep those kids from getting a bounty on their heads.
Both had horrible lives, but having a horrible life, doesn't mean you have to be a horrible person/do horrible things in the name of such a person. Rosinate experienced the exact same pain as Doffy, but he rose above it, and did everything he could to help Law.
If he'd not died/been found out, he probably would've tried to help the other children, as well.
@@ChimourTheBatFurry He wasn't exactly wrong. The family has said that hundreds of kids came to them over time, but that most of them had been driven away. This means Corazon had a success rate of hundreds and only two failures, which looks pretty damn good to me.

Corazon didn't grew in Marijoa so he didn't became that way, and if some kid which isn't a Celestial Dragon were to live in there he would become a messed up adult, so judge the character by the character not by it's title :D

From Doffy's perspective his brother betrayed him, from Corozan's perspective he was trying to stop Doffy from destroying everything and save Law. Both are justified since justice takes different form on what position they are from.

A justification is not the same as justice though :)
Doffy planned to sacrifice him from the start. He intended Roci to eat the fruit and operate on Doffy.

@@KaelenB Its why Law specifically did it. When Coro found out law was a D, he made the decision to save him. Law is following in Coro's footstep and saved Luffy because he's a D as well.
@@kidkouga92 cora saved law once he found out he was a D because of his connection to doflaminfo (enemies of god and all that) and coro started to feel sorry for law and they developed a connection, however it makes more sense that law would want to follow in Cora's footsteps in saving luffy.

The kid that escaped out of the bird cage was X Drake
so unfair how dressrosa is 100+ episodes and we only get few episodes of law and corazon happy moments
Corazon (or Cora-san, as I like to call him) had no reason or obligation to care. He could have just ignored Law and continued on like he always had.
But he refused to. Instead, out of sheer kindness, he gave everything away. His mission, his future, in the end even his life. All just to help a rude little boy, whose life was almost over before it had even really started.
And that's why he's one of my top favorite characters in One Piece
Watching this flashback story one more time had the same impact , The best Parental relationship ever ..

The one the current arc in the manga will cover will probably be far better than all of them including Cora-san though judging by the few bits and pieces we got so far.

you know, for a character most of the fandom considers as a coldly calculating bastard heartless mastermind, Love and Hearts are a weirdly recurring theme in Law's life.
Law's pirate is called Heart pirates. Because he was indebted to (the second) Corazon (Heart in spanish). And Doflamingo also wanted him to be the replacement of Rosinante as the third Corazon. This is the reason the Heart seat is vacant until now. Furthermore, Law's jolly roger is a big smile. Corazon's smile.

Wow wow wow, so doflamingo wanted the person he trusted the most to eat the friut so he can use it to become immortal. Damn, and he says he cares about his family.

You have to admire how oda still make us feels so bad even knowing the destiny. Hearing law cry and realizing that in that moment Cora died is just superb
Corazon and Vergo were both double agents working for opposite teams. Oda likes setting up dramatic scenes when characters with contrasting beliefs and motifs are fated to cross paths (e.g. Luffy and Blackbeard's first encounter, Norland and Kalgara). It was inevitable that the two would meet...
I don't think Doflamingo was born evil; in his flashback, it looked like he loved his mother and cared for her, like he does with his family.
Not his father ever since his father volunteered to leave that celestial lifestyle he had a resent him for it

That is the visual representation of "this drink isn't doing enough for me", meaning he's sad and he is trying to handle his emotions through drink although he's failing.
Keep in mind that Doffy wanted his brother there just to use him. He needed him just for the OP OP fruit as a sacrifice for his own goals and that's it. In the end Doffy was never a good person.
Is it ever stated as a fact exactly WHEN he planned for his brother to use that skill? Maybe before being betrayed Doffy assumed there would come a time much later in life to use the ability. It was just another tool to be in the ready for options, not necessarily used right away.

I've re watched this scene plenty of times and It always gets me every time. Oda does something that no other manga creator can do as well as him and that's getting emotionally attached to characters. Corazon is one of my favorite characters in ALL of one piece, and although we had very few episodes with him, it felt like I had known him since the beginning. I've felt all types of emotions while watching one piece, but never have I felt so much pain, empathy and sorrow in just a few episodes of an anime. I wasn't just crying, I was literally sobbing for minutes at most. Oda portrayed his message so well in just a few episodes. But it wasn't just one message, it was many. How it feels to lose someone you love. How your past does not defy who you are now. And how in the worst of times, being positive and keeping a smile on your face will get you far. Corazon was by far the most unique character in One Piece and that's why I loved him so much. He kept a smile on his face in order to keep Law smiling. This anime taught me so much and I'm sure all of you can relate. Corazon lives in my heart (literally) and One Piece will forever be my favorite anime of all time.

Craftsdwarf explains Doflamingo's attitude toward Corazon this way: Doffy craves having a family, however, after feeling like his father betrayed him and family, he will not tolerate betrayal. His underlings can fail him over and over and he'll still keep them around for the sake of family, but will immediately disown them once they betray him.
SMF, you really fill in the void for many viewers including me ever since uzumaki khan stopped reacting. Not to say ones better than the other but you entertain me just as much as he has for me but in your own ways!

when you realize doflamingo and law's jolly roger are the same. doflamingo's first seen with bellamy at mock town and when doflamingo personally visited him, and law when he appeared on sabaody archipelago. people were already noticing the correlation back then :O

Just goes to show how great Oda is at making characters. Within a handful of chapters/episodes he made us love a temporary character.

To Doflamingo, his brother is like his father. Somebody who he loved and suddenly betrayed him. He just acts as he did with his father. In a way, he's just trying to erase that part of him, as if it never existed. It's not a justification, but it's how Doffy sees it. And, in a way, it makes him even worse

The teenager that was saved by the Navy that day was the son of the pirate that had the Op Op fruit, he survived and became a Navy solider that later on betrays them to become a pirate named X Drake; one of the worst generations. Just so you can connect the dots how it all inner twines better.

If you watch the flashback of Doflamingo. Doflamingo himself already had *standard* tenryuubito tropes. Where looking down at normal people. Just like when they 1st came to their new house, he already ask about slaves and getting angry without them.
And, the new environment + what happen after that (mother died because illness) and got punish by public like that, awakened the more horrible personality in him. And the worst of it, he had the quality of the king (or leader, because he got conqueror haki)..
Corazon role just to control Doflamingo movement. But because he choose to save law, and the way marines act very obvious that without corazon they can't track Doflamingo, he made a big blunder.
One SURPRISE backstory left and you will be mind blown by it when it happens.
