I honestly think this might be the greatest football match ever played in England. The late 90s was the sweet spot between old-fashioned grit and flair, and modern-day fitness and tactical sophistication. Football had moved on from the hoofball of the 80s, but it hadn't yet gone up Pep Guardiola's arse and died. This match is AMAZING.
I agree with you. I think football peaked in the late 90s. The 1980s was the era I grew up in so it isn't a case of nostalgia. Look at the calibre of players and matches in Euro 2000 and compare to the last tournament.
Just look at the fast intensity and absolute madness going on during the match. The United fans had the advantage of sound which is overpowering and undoubtedly hostile! Absolutely beautiful to listen too!! I watched this replay at my neighbours house in London because they had Sky Sports 2 which was extra back in the day before digital and we had cable and no sky! I lived in N1 Islington and was a United fan, had my white away shirt and all… they were gooners and it was an absolute scream fest! Omg what an era!!
FA Cup semi finals at netural stadiums were just brilliant. That's what made this game an FA Cup classic along with two teams at the peak of their powers.
The most incredible season to follow any football club. Not just the results but the way in which the games were won. That campaign defied logic. Can’t believe it was a quarter of a century ago already.
Thank you so much - this game means so much to me and my vhs copy I got my mum to record is well past worn, so its an absolute treat watching it just how I watched it back the next day and so many times after. There are older faces on here who are no longer with us - it was lovely to see them so happy again. Thank you
Back in the times when football wasn’t dominated by xG and teams permanently playing the percentage game, even in a semi final of such high magnitude both sides went for it hammer and tongue, just wouldn’t happen these days in most games, and certainly not in a semi final!!
Amaizng upload thank you. If you could ever get something similar for the final against Bayern with the original itv commentary I would be so made up. Cheers ⚽️⚽️
I remember being 8 years old with all my pals as a Newcastle fan but I loved Arsenal and we were all betting who was going to win it 😂. Football was so much better back then. Like this game was a national hype. How many people would be buzzing to watch the two top teams play in an FA cup semi final nowadays? The FA cups lost its buzz. Is it’s an inconvenience.

When Bayindir saved Odegaard's penalty on Sunday I thought about this game and I got some hope that United could stil win even with 10 men. History kinda repeated itself! 😊
You can't. He played this whole season constantly injured and he still was phenomenal. There were European games that SAF put injured Giggs on the pitch just for mind games, because just being there it would scare the opponents and make them double mark him on the left.
No offside. The excuse at the time was that the lino didn’t realise that Giggs played the ball to himself, but even if someone else played it to Giggs, he was still onside.
There's one podcast Vieira told Keane that Arsenal's thuggish behavior got nothing to do with Wenger. He might be bs'ing tho. But idk i just don't see Wenger is the type of manager who made his players do all that

Yeah weird that but I can't really recall watching highlights over the years with anything other than Martin Tyler or Gary Bloom on comms. Any time the BBC put up a video of it it's with Alan Green on comms for 5 live. Never had Sky at the time so must have been a little kid listening to the radio.

Such a great era of football. Full of character, personality and swag unlike today.

I love how serious and professional the reporters/build up is.

Greatest FA Cup match of all time, without a doubt.
No chance Fa cup final 2006

LMAO 😂
What a wonderful, dramatic and scarcely-believable match. A painful reminder of what's been lost. I could weep for the state of the game these days.
The quality and flow of play is far better than today.
Listen to the atmosphere never get that today, anywhere
Every club has too many plastic fans ho don’t care about the result. They see the game as an option vent

98-08 the golden era of English Football.
What an upload. Probably one of the most iconic games of English football ever.
Thank for the upload! One of the greatest match ever for United ❤
Ah the good old days of football!!!
Football today is safe and boring. Bring me 90s and early 2000 football any day!
Back in the times when football wasn’t dominated by xG and teams permanently playing the percentage game, even in a semi final of such high magnitude both sides went for it hammer and tongue, just wouldn’t happen these days in most games, and certainly not in a semi final!!
Still the best game of football I've ever seen.
My nerves were absolutely shredded with this game. Absolute scenes. What a season. GGMU❤

How I wish I could go back to 1999
You know Keane still sleeps better today cause Vieira assisted that Giggs goal. 😍

Exact same as me from an Arsenal point of view. The second he missed it I chucked money on Man United to win on penalties at 10/1. Was written
The greatest.
What a goal by Giggs
Giggs was truly world class. Anyone disagree? 😅
You can't. He played this whole season constantly injured and he still was phenomenal. There were European games that SAF put injured Giggs on the pitch just for mind games, because just being there it would scare the opponents and make them double mark him on the left.
Greatest game I've ever been at.
Dixon begging for Giggs' shirt at the end 😆
Semi final of fa cup should always be at a different ground apart from Wembley. Love the days of fans invading the pitch 😂😂
And neither goalkeeper wasted anytime pratting about with the ball in the area…those were the days.
7:47 Keane goal , can someone explain who is offside.
No offside. The excuse at the time was that the lino didn’t realise that Giggs played the ball to himself, but even if someone else played it to Giggs, he was still onside.
