Just after GnR did a show in Seattle the night before the Last MASH television episode, the band came back to the house they were living at as Ten Minute Warning. I sat next to Axl Rose on a sofa for the entire show. He was a very proper gentleman and never put his hand down his pants even once, and watched the entire show. I am glad these guys all busted ass together to get their sound. Good work pays better than drug/television time.

My condolences! By pure coincidence, when my uncle passed away I was listening to Knocking On Heaven's Door when I heard the news. This song fits the occasion, but without being too sad. That's why I keep coming back to this song. It's just perfect!

Definitely the best version that has been made of this song, it was recorded in the section of a night at the Rits hotel if I'm not wrong in NY, the show was epic, and that night GNR showed the kind of rock band that would be in the next few years, what happened next, haha... we all know that. Instrumentally live it was beastly and the voice was one of the best tones that Axl reached, without a doubt, you will tell me if I'm wrong.
I'm agree with you, this is the best version even without the Slash's solo of the album version. The voice of Axl was in his peak, the way his voice climbs to the top is incredible and the rhythm of the others is perfect with the duration of the song making everything flow perfectly.

I had a cassette with this song on it. It was recorded live at a bar. No background singers. Axl really let it hang out. That guy touched my soul with his singing. Because of that, listening to the late 80's early 90's Axl NEVER GETS OLD!!

This is why it’s so hard for me to listen to GnR current live versions… To me this is their sound, this is how I hear them on my mind and this is how I want to remember them. Axl’s voice was incredible. I wasn’t even his biggest fan, but they were just elite band or rock that time. He was such a talented badass and his voice unmatched. I’m glad he’s still fit and healthy to perform but his voice is painful to hear these days. It’s like watching someone you love being frail and old and not being able to do what they once could.. It’s hard to explain. I’d rather listen and remember him how he was at his prime.

Being 16yrs old and rockin my latest mullet and my sides shaved with a #1 blade at the time I fondly and clearly remember that in the world of Rock there were many bands i loved that routinely got played in my arsenal of cassette tapes. The Crue, Van Halen, Def Leppard etc. However right about this time all of those cassettes took a long needed rest as I began to believe there was only one band deserving of my listening ears and they were that band. There was GnR and then everyone else

Hemos estado disfrutando de Guns por al menos 35 años, lástima que no supieron manejar sus cosas después del impresionante éxito obtenido desde el comienzo, sino nos hubiesen brindado muchísima más música, gracias a Dios lograron reencontrarse y seguir tocando, cosa q no pasó, por ejemplo, con Nirvana -por lo q sabemos- otra superbanda de los 90.., de cualquier forma seguiremos deleitándonos. ❤🎉

For those who don't believe this was really in 1988, i have this clip on an old tape too ... some songs can be written and performed live before the studio album ... like the Metallica Garage album !!!
The 2 proofs here are :
- Izzy S. on the guitar wich was replaced later by Gilby C.
- Steven A. on drums replaced later by Matt S. (he left the band in 1990)
Wasn't this the ritz gig they played as a warm up to the use your illusion tour. Matt Sorum hadn't joined and Izzy was with gnr at the start of that tour.
